This can't be possible---Kara

I walked blankly in a gloomy dusk sky. The air is cold, mist and fog envelope the streets and the sun is about to set. I hardly have my balance as if a tailwind is against me. I can't breathe properly as well.

"How can this happen?" I whispered. "It was just a normal morning back there, but now…" I stopped on a near post and leaned on it. I stared at the crosswalk and realized my tears kept falling. "I don't like this… my chest is hurting very much, I can't bear it."

I looked down and remembered his damped face in the early morning yesterday.

....

"Good morning.." I greeted.

"Mornin'" he yawned and went to the bathroom. I heard the faucet and I guess he wiped his face clean.

"Got a nice sleep?" I asked and handed him a towel.

"Uhm.." he nodded.

It has been 6 years since he first came here. And that 6 years made me closer to him than my real brother. His kindness is real, and he's easy to be with, unlike my spoiled little brother.

"Want some milk, Kid?" I got a glass for the both of us and got milk from the fridge.

"Uhm.." he nodded.

"You should be able to speak proper sentences, right?" I frowned and placed the hot bottle of milk on his arm which he immediately evaded.

"Uhh, sorry. Do we have—" Kid replied.

"No. Mom's gonna be here any moment so we can't afford to get caught." I poured the milk into the glass.

"Ahh, sorry.." he looked down.

"Don't worry. You know what day is it today, right?"

"I do?"

"Yes of course you do!.." I muttered. "It's—"

"Just joking. I know. Don't forget what you promised." He said and got the glass of milk.

"Who do you think that I am?"

"The big sister with small boobs.." he said with a straight face.

"What did you say?!" I tried to reach his tickle spot but mom came in the kitchen and stared at us.

We both quieted down and sat properly at the dining table but still kicking under the table. I helped her prepare breakfast and Kyle came right after we set breakfast.

"You going somewhere, Kyle?" I asked.

"Just somewhere. My friends asked to visit the new pool in the next city." He replied.

"Oh, that one." I said.

"You've heard of it, huh." Kyle replied with a scorn face.

"Yeah, my friend's bf works there part-time."

"Oh.. I see."

"You better call me when you get there, Kyle." Mom said. "I just can't stop worrying."

"Mom, I'm fine. Besides, Carl's dad will drive us there." Kyle replied. "I know what to do.."

"Then that's fine and have fun.."

That was the final convo we had that day. The next thing we received is a call from the police that their car was rammed by a 10 wheeler truck at the intersection near the foot of the mountain and fell on a cliff.

My mom's face fell in despair.

We hurried to the hospital and panicked with the rest of the parents affected by the accident.

"Where's my son?" my mom desperately asked the doctors and nurses that pass by. "Where's my son!"

"Mom, please calm down.." I said to her. My heart beats fast and my body's filled with adrenalin.

"Bring me back my son.." she continued. "Kara, call your dad."

"I'm trying to reach him but I still can't connect. He might still be at the lab." I don't know what to do. My hands are shaking and I felt the weight on my knees. My body felt out of blood.

"Kyle, Kyle.." my mom repeated.

Her deeds are unsightly until we reached the emergency room where my little brother is.

"Kyle!" She screamed.

"The doctors are doing everything they can to save your son, ma'am." The nurse on stand-by tried to calm her down and stopping her from getting inside the room. "We're transferring him to the operation room when we have your signature."

"You always say that." My mom glared at her. "Better mark your word and save my son." She said more of a threat as she grabbed the pen and signed the contract.

The doctor came out of the room and talked immediately to my mom.

"He needs a transplant." The doctor said.

"What?" my mom reacted exaggeratedly.

"His left brain was severely damaged and most of his internal organs were injured as well. We also need almost 5 bags of blood to sustain his life, ma'am." The doctor explained. "Fortunately, his heart is still functioning well aside from it having a hole."

Mom stared at the doctor fervently.

"You need to find a donor as soon as possible." The doctor said.

Without any hesitation, my mom grabbed Kid's arm and presented him to the doctor.

"If you need organs, this kid has it all." My mom said

"Ehh?" Kid reacted confusedly.

"Mom, what are you saying?" I exclaimed. "You can't—"

"It will happen really soon, Kara. Besides, it's what his purpose why we're raising him, right?" her eyes can't be argued.

"No.." the kid begged and tried to get out from my mom's grip. "Please.." he whispered.

"He's got all the parts my son had lost, doctor. Please take him and save my son."

"We need his consent…" the doctor said.

"You don't need his consent." My mom explained. "He is a clone to serve as an organ donor for my son. He doesn't have human rights. And besides, I own him. We raised him for this purpose so he doesn't have the right to refuse." My mom tightened her grip.

"That's absurd." I muttered. I saw the kid's eyes tremble in fear.

"Absurd?!" my mom glared at me. "So, you don't want to save Kyle, huh, Kara?" she exclaimed. "Are you choosing this kid over your real brother? That is what happens when you spend more time with this clone rather than Kyle,."

"No, I want him to live--" I tried to reason out but my mom was dressed in rage.

"Then there is nothing to argue about. We need this kid to save Kyle. That's what's more important." My mom said.

"I don't want to die." He whispered, strangled away from my mom's grip, and ran away.

"Stop right there you bastard!" my mom exclaimed and ran after the kid. "Get him, Kara. Don't let him get away!"

I ran after the both of them and I can't stop my tears. I don't want to lose both of them.

Mom got him cornered at the rooftop and what I saw broke my heart. I don't want Kyle to die and I know we need to hurry, but the kid's expression made the sky fell on me.

"I don't want to die, mom…" he pleaded. His tears kept falling like a storm.

"Come here and do what I said, Kid." My mom moved towards him with angry steps. "You have to save my son right now."

"But mom.." the kid said. "I don't want to die.." he took steps backward until he reached the cyclone fence at the edge of the rooftop. "Please, I don't want to die." He begged again and again.

"There is no other choice, kid. You are destined to die." My mom replied with a straight face. She's desperate to save her son and she's racing with time.

No, he is not destined to die. Even if he's just a clone.. I thought. But, I only stared at them, unable to say a word.

"Kara!" my mom called. "Get to that side and we'll corner him."

"Please.." repeated and repeated, begging for his life.

"This is my life, I just can't let go of it, right?" the kid argued. "I don't want to die, mom."

"That life is made by us, kid." My mom said. "You don't own it."

I saw the doctors came to the rooftop and their expression made me choose between my thoughts. And what struck me is the thought of losing a family.

"Kid.." I said. "I don't want to lose Kyle." What am I saying? I don't want to lose him, too. Do I really need to pick a choice?

"Ma'am. We don't have time. Your son is at his death bed." The doctor said.

I don't know what I was thinking at that time but words came out of my mouth, "Save my brother…" I asked with whole sincerity. But, I don't know, I immediately felt regret asking him that.

He broke down. I know, in the house, I was his only refuge, his only ally. And now, I betrayed him. I saw the despair in his eyes. He lost his strength and fell on his knees.

The doctors didn't waste the chance to catch the kid. They surrounded him and the poor kid still tried to get away from them but they injected him with a tranquilizer.

"Sorry kid." Mom said while she held his face. "We're just harvesting what we sow."

And we got what we wanted. The doctors proceeded to the operation to save Kyle and left the other's body at the morgue.

That shouldn't have happened. It was even his--
