My death was a generic one, I got shot nothing special. I lived an average life trying my best not to sin, but"Thou shall not lie" was a constant relapse on that. The big man sure knew how to cull the heaven population with that one. But it doesn't matter, I'm not in heaven, unless heaven is this void of nothing and everything like a mad playground for whatever that fancy. A black sun dips into a white horizon and beneath the horizon emerges a violet moon. I'll give them points for creativity. I don't know how long if been hear, but I've forgotten my name, I vaguely remember what I look like, vividly remember how I died, and only relevant details about my life.
If this is my eternity after death then so be it. The way things are going I won't remember how I got here soon enough and after that we'll..it doesn't matter.
"Well well well aren't you at trouper" said a voice that echoed across the void.
"Usually figuring out you are not in paradise and your existence is slowly but surely being crashed drives a mortal soul mad. Yet hear you are the one in a billion who truly embodies"It is what it is". Said the voice before chuckling madly.
"Meh, I don't panic. That's one of the few things I still remember about myself" I said
"I can see that. Hmm, I have a proposition for you, A new life, A new story, A new you. Are you interested" asked the voice
"Why the offer, what's yeh catch, you take away my ding dong or something" I inquired cautiously.
"Entertainment of course, You get one ability, One item, and One trait, in exchange you lose all memories of your previous life. Do we have a deal" Inquired the voice
I contemplated his offer, it was limited yet generous. But depending on which will he's sending me to it won't do jack shit.
"Any other restrictions I should know about or limitation to the request," I asked just to be sure.
The being chuckled almost with enthusiasm.
"Ohh I do love the cautious ones. Yes No bullshit request I ain't making you a Kryptonian or giving you an infinity stone or making you invulnerable, you gotta make requests that require training, that require the grind. I ain't a zero-to-hero fan. Try me and see if I don't make you crack-heads play then in the next life and the next and the next." the voice became more and more malevolent as he continued.
If I could swallow saliva I would, but this wasn't a time fit for fear. This was an opportunity and one I would now squander.
But there is a burning question on my mind.
"Which verse are you sending me to?" because Marvel Universe 616 is a piss take, yeh MCU is easier to navigate with the right tools. And as for DC...I ain't dealing with that. I'll take the DCU with off-brand Darkseid because the Darkside I know isn't getting waxed by the Greek pantheon that easily. And as for anime verses if it ain't a Slice of Lige it's all about your species, an OP ability a bullshit weapon, and PLOT, fucking PLOT, and if you're not protected by it well congratulations your part of 80% of humanity the rumbling stomped or you live in Shibuya when shit hit the fan. And to top it all off that verse is in the same verse as Firebreather so Kaiju are gonna be a thing, Spawn so Demons and Angels are gonna be a thing along with magic Bullshit and the list goes on. And all I have to do against the SSS tier fuckery is one ability, one item, and one perk within limits. Ah bloody hell us with for Omnitrix but being a crack-head cumdumpster ain't worth it. Alright, gotta pick a winning combo hear. After well who knows how long. Due time even exists hear.
"Hmm you ready to choose," asked the voice to which I replied
"Yes, for my ability I choose Adaptive Regeneration," I said to which the voice gave a contemplative hum. If I could cross my fingers I would. The ability to adapt to any bodily harm as I regenerate is a must for that verse. I would possess the ability to regenerate and adapt to any bodily harm, anything from becoming less prone to scratches to being impossible to cut, a sought immune system boost to becoming invulnerable to any biological debilitating conditions or even increasing my power in response to a stronger opponent, from extremes such as brief regenerative boosts to becoming immune to being killed the same way twice and the best part is that this can be triggered from virtually any harm as long as it can be triggered from virtually any damage as long as it is regardless of the method. To put it simply as long as it causes harm, it is adapted against and compensated for.
"Interesting choice and smart asking for a specific ability instead of the whole character template. I'll add in the bonus of making it impossible to clone you a must in any verse" said the voice
Score anti-clone that's a godsend and it didn't cost any of my other two picks.
No fit my second pick I need a versatile item. The equivalent of a Suped-up swish army knife. It was a toss-up between three things but is settled on one because it was versatile and like my new ability could adapt.
"For my item, I pick a Reach Beetle Scarab. Severed from reach control. Give it the voice of Ultron from the MCU. I want the scarab to be silver in color." I received another hum.
It was a toss-up between a Symbiote, a Reach Scarab, and the Omnitrix. I removed the last one for obvious reasons. The symbiote is very versatile but has more weaknesses than the Reach Scrab. Not to mention the abilities the scarab provides upon symbioses. The scarab armor is the definition of fuck around and find out. Black Beetle was out here throwing hands with Mongul, disrespecting the young justice team on a daily. The suite arsenal is adaptive and can be altered for certain scenarios. The suite grants flight, mechanokinesis, superhuman strength, speed, and durability, armor reconfiguration, environmental protection, and one of my personal favorites Antagonistic Adaptation. And the bloody list goes on.
My train of thought was interrupted after that causing the space to tremble. It sounded jovial yet maniacal.
"How interesting with those two alone you've managed to cover most bases. And time and experience is your ally. As time goes on you experience battle after battle. Your body will only become stronger, faster, and more resilient and that experience will allow you to master the capabilities of the scarab not to mention. That as you become stronger the physical enhancements the scarab can provide will increase. After all the capability of a weapon is dependent on its user." he said still chuckling. "Item granted to you specifications. The fact that you'll lose memories means that how you use this item might have a fresh take compared to other scarab users. I'm excited to see it. Now what about the trait" said the voice.
So far so good. Now I need a trait that adds something the other two don't. Something to complete the Trinity.
Hmmm, that would do it. It would help with the kind of attacks that circumvent durability.
"For my trait, I pick a strong soul, as strong as you can make it with the limits you set." There was no hum this time just silence. Soul-based attacks are a piss take or the highest order. Anything from soul swapping to soul destruction is inky possible if that person's soup is stronger than yours.
"Done. You'll be a fun one to watch." the voice said and I felt my consciousness fading. My new life begins now. I reached the top as for the or-die trying part well we'll see about that.
