After the night Elizabeth's father took her innocence she came very quiet and found it hard to socialize. She became the quiet kid both at home and at school. Sadly, her father continued his acts from when she was 7 years old till when she was 9.
Elizabeth grew distant from her brothers. One night, one of the brothers caught their father on her but pretended to be asleep. He became troubled to the extent he told his mother about it, but her reply was for him to be silent and never tell a single soul about what he saw.
It turned out Elizabeth's mother already knew. In fact, she found out the first night it happened but decided to keep quiet about it so their family won't be ruined by the fact that her husband would most likely spend the rest of his life behind bars. In her words, she didn't want her boys to grow up without a father.
She warned Elizabeth to never tell anyone about it and to "close her eyes and imagine shooting stars" whenever it happened.
