To be Human

The soft petals of the cherry blossom flowers danced against the wind as the they fell like freshly fallen snow onto the grey concrete. A smaller blossom got whisked away from the clustered dance and fluttered, falling slowly into the palm of my hand. It's light pink petals felt soft to the touch and I couldn't help but slightly smile. Fate was a bitter pill to swallow and seeing these blossoms only reminded me of what I had lost just days before.

I had lost my entire life; I lost my family, friends, and my passion for music all because of a single drunken driver. One hit from the truck and I had immediately blanked out and had woken up in this strange, yet familiar world. A world where there were magical beings, royalty, and powerful beasts.

It seemed almost straight out of a fantasy novel but I knew I had not read such a book like this world I had came into. Once I woke up on my new body, I could only be surprised once I saw what I was. Looking into a shiny, large mirror I had found beside me, I saw that I had a scaled tail, gill markings alongside my neck, and somewhat sharp teeth; however, none of these features took away from the breathless beauty that my face radiated. Just with one small glance at the mirror I almost fainted in shock at the perfectly proportioned face I was staring at. My coral colored lips, sea blue eyes, and light blue silvery colored hair were all a beautiful sight to see.

It was but obvious what I was. I was most definitely a mermaid. A being I had only read about in fairytales and had always hoped to see. I never actually thought I could be one.

When I woke up I was lying on the beach, seemingly cast adrift on the shore. I was wearing a ocean blue dress which faded towards the end like sea foam. The ombré look made me seem as though a wave was covering me, but the dress wasn't loose, it was skin tight.

Now, it had been a few hours and I had seen everything this current location had to offer. I was cautious enough to hide my gill marks as I walked across the street, looking at the stores which held unusual items.

"Dragon's breath" seemed to be a rare item in one store. As it's price was marked in red, causing others to look in interest but walk away once they saw the red lettering.

Of course, I did not have any money so looking was somewhat pointless for me. Occasionally as I walked, people would stare at me. I couldn't cover my face at all because I had no cloth other than what I was wearing.

I was about to turn back after I had explored the street, but bumped into a large figure which caused me to fall. I closed my eyes, bracing for impact, but instead felt hard arms support me.
