The Maldini were known for never holding back and causing large amounts of suffering. It was not because they were cruel but their Flames were highly infectious and had the ability to burn Spiritual Essence. Alexander Maldini took this a step further, being born with a mutated Glory Step Bloodline. From that point on, there was a higher chance of his descendants having the same mutation even though it was a recessive gene. 

The Purgatory Flames were a Valour Step Bloodline Ability the Maldini had used for many years. A young Alexander Maldini had used a Glory Step Fire Spirit Art and fused it with his Glory Step bloodline and Glory Step Ability to create a powerful Specialised Skill that had the potential to reach Glory Step once it had matured. If that happened, he would have 4 Glory Step Traits! This all but guaranteed his ascension as talent and abilities came together in a superb combination. Once he reached the Glory Step, he would undoubtedly be a powerhouse!
