KV

(Kalusarai, South Delhi)

(Delhi+)

Kendriya Vidyalay (KV) are premier schools to be set up in all districts of India, working as the manager of all schools of the district.

KVs include 9th to 12th grades, with ten sections of each class, from A to J.

Indic, which is very similar, but better than English is the main medium of instruction

KV Kalusarai situated in South Delhi district is one of the first KV that has completed its construction, and the first batch will start from April this year.

Each class has the sitting capacity of sixty students, made in the form of a lecture hall so that everyone can see the board. There is huge space in the front, to facilitate demonstrations.

The school contains 40 regular classrooms, one big indoor auditorium, one big outdoor auditorium, two indoor Badminton courts, two Volleyball courts, two Basketball courts, two indoor Kabaddi courts, one Football ground, a 400m track, and a big ground.

The school has five main buildings.

First one is a 15 floor main building containing the offices, classes 9th and 10th, auditorium, KV companies: KV Ani Studio, KV Jump, KV Music, KV Electronics Repairs.

The second and third buildings are 10 floor buildings containing 5-5 sections of 11th and 12th grades. They are much wider than the main building. They also contain Teacher Training Departments, Statistics Club, Economics Club, Science Clubs, Labs, and empty rooms for future use.

The fourth and fifth buildings are hostels with 20 floors each, for boys and girls. 5 floors each are for one class. The ground floor is for parking, mainly for cycles.

Aside from the main 5, there is a basic medical dispensary, and a Student Council Building.

The Student Council Building contains a mini-Parliament for 80 members, who are boys' and girls' class captains of each class, headed by the Student Council President(SCP). Student Council consists of the SCP, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Head of Discipline Committee.

The School has a total capacity of 2,400 students, with four broad categories of subjects: Sciences, Social Sciences, Arts and Sports. And the choices of subjects, which happen in 10th, are fluid. Choosing Maths doesn't necessarily mean that someone also has to choose chemistry. And the subjects can be changed after a semester break by a simple exam.

60% attendance is mandatory, except very serious health condition, and apprenticeship can also be counted in the attendance. There are only two exams a year, once per semester.

Only compulsory subjects need to be passed, along with the overall grade to be above passing grade of 40%.

The school will teach real skills through experience. Like internships in the KV companies to get skills, and have some income as well.

After each semester, there are Sports and Cultural Festivals alternatively. After the initial funding for two years for the events, the Student Council has to determine how to handle those on their own, and even earn money from those events and how to invest the money in different empty parts of the school to increase its income.

The KVs also have a Teacher program, in which a student can directly become a Primary(1st to 4th) or Middle School(5th to 8th)Teacher by having training as assistant teachers in the 1st to 8th grade schools in the district. This is to meet the shortage of teachers.

The whole campus is full of greenery, has proper rain water harvesting, drainage, biomass producer, a small botanical farm, a lake, and a design that keeps the campus cool in summer and warm in winter. Plus, several earthquake precautions are taken, and the buildings are designed in such a way that they can withstand a level 6 earthquake.

There will be KVs in all 1186 districts of India, and 50 have already been constructed. Each KV will have students from the schools in the district. So, by the end of 1965, the goal is to reach 28 lakh students in KVs.

The KVs are a public-private partnership between the central government, and the companies in the respective district. They also have 60% students for free in scholarship according to the income and performance in the entrance exam, and 40% have to pay fees. In the 60% scholarship seats, 5% seats are reserved for orphans, disabled, and intersex children.
