Chapter 48

He frowned. “You shouldn’t be here. Someone could see. We can discuss this back at the cabin—”

Stefan didn’t finish his sentence because a gunshot echoed. A girl with blood oozing from her chest lay on the snow near a suitcase. Blood even splattered from her wound, staining the snow around her red.

I was beginning to think that the violence would never stop because I shouldn’t have witnessed another death. Yet I had, and I’d carry that with me for the rest of my life, like every other bad thing that happened to me or I witnessed.

Stefan’s gaze lit on the same things I had seen only moments earlier.

“We should get out of here,” Stefan murmured into my ear.

He was concerned for my safety, which reminded me of how I had the perfect boyfriend. But having perfect didn’t matter right now. Not when people were being killed senselessly.

Stefan grabbed my hand. Then, he clicked his fingers before I could even respond.
