Chapter 30: Conspiracy Theory

After a while, Obito arrived in front of the Mercenary Union door, which had been repaired, making Obito smile shyly. Then Obito walked into the Union Building.

As Obito entered, the once lively and bustling atmosphere instantly became silent, with all eyes focused on Obito.

Obito was wearing a black cloak that covered his entire body, short, messy black hair, and a brownish-orange mask with a swirling spiral shape and only one hole for the eye to see through.

Although Obito's figure looked very mysterious and captivating, what was truly intriguing about Obito was his strange mask.

"Hey!" Obito walked and approached the receptionist desk, greeting Eina, Senia, and Iren.

"Mr. Obito, this is your money, a total of 8400 Forty, in the form of paper currency, with 1000 Forty notes and 200 Forty notes." Eina said, handing over ten pieces of paper currency, eight with a value of one thousand Forty and two with a value of two hundred Forty.

Then Obito took all the money and put it behind his cloak.

"I hope you won't start another fight inside the Union. Even though you will replace the damaged items, if fights are heard by outsiders, they might lose trust in the Union because its members fight each other. Therefore, I hope yesterday's incident won't happen again!" Eina said it seriously.

This made Obito smile awkwardly behind his mask, then he scratched his head in embarrassment.

"I apologize!" Obito then apologized for the incident.

"It's okay! Just don't let it happen again!" Senia said it with a smile.

"So, what actually happened? Previously, there were no mercenaries, but now why are there so many mercenaries gathered?" Obito then asked to find out what actually happened. Yesterday morning, Obito saw no mercenaries, but today there were many mercenaries gathered in the Union Building.

"They are all going on a mission to clean up the disposal site beneath the Fortress City. This mission was issued directly by the Government itself, that's why the mercenaries weren't in the Union yesterday." Iren explained this to Obito.

"Is that so? Does this mission require so many people? Are all the mercenaries participating in this mission?" Obito asked again.

"Not all of them. Besides, the number of mercenaries doesn't even reach sixty. Most of them are participating in the mission because they are given a commission of 5000 per day for each participating member. Due to the vastness of the disposal site, it will take a long time. That's why many people are participating in the mission because it's not too dangerous and doesn't require too much effort." Senia continued to explain.

"Oh." Obito was surprised by the small number of mercenaries. However, the income of mercenaries was very high, but Obito understood that the income was proportional to the risks they faced.

Although it was said to be safe, it couldn't be completely true. Otherwise, the government wouldn't give the mission to the mercenaries.

The government must know something, there must be something wrong with the disposal site beneath the Fortress City. That's why they gave the mission to the mercenaries.

They surely didn't want to waste the members of the Gate Guard Force, City Army, or City Police, because these three departments had been trained and provided with many resources. They were much more important than mercenaries, who could be replaced at any time with just a little money. That's probably what the government officials were thinking.

Perhaps the mercenaries who didn't participate also knew this, that's why they chose not to join.
