Hiruzen being Danzo's teammate and bitch boyfriend chose to remain silent, without clearing the charges and thus, Sakumo chose to commit suicide. He chose to sacrifice Sakumo 'For Konoha'.
I won't be telling about the fight with Hanzo but at that time Tsunade had lost 50 years of lifespan in the fight to save both Orochimaru and Jiraiya.
Now, let's talk about Kushina coming to Konoha. Mito taught her all sealing Jutsu and sacrificed her remaining lifespan to transfer Kyuubi to Kushina.
