A day and a half later we reach the halfway point to Neraw, and the most substantial town along the way. It's the only one that can truly be considered a town at all.
There was a small lumberjack's outpost earlier, and a fort, but the soldiers in the latter had been recalled during the near-miss of another War of the Tear and evidently hadn't made it back out to the fort since.
If anyone was home, they hadn't been interested in responding to a group of random travelers.
This is the rather small village of Jael, which is little more than a cluster of homes around a road, a tavern, a blacksmith, and a store.
Each one did double-duty for other necessities for the people of Jael, and the village itself wasn't far out from just being housed by the founding families.
The village existed at all due to a nearby mine, which drove just enough commerce to make it worthwhile.
