In Memoria

When I think of the greatest blade I don’t think of one that can cut anything, no I think of one that could cut through the very fate and destiny of the world, one that could cut through the bonds of time. A tower, one that had consumed earth and its inhabitants. Filled with magic and opportunities, one that may just give me the chance to create the greatest blade, the one that I had dreamed of for so long.

I sat against one of the buildings, in my lap was the pale figure of Mihr. He was sick, very so.

As I would have expected. That attack of his was devastating. Not only to the ones it was aimed at but to the wielder of such a power.

I could not tell for sure but I knew that the power that he showed, at our level of existence, was only possible with great sacrifice. Whether that be mass amounts of mana, or even the very life of our body.

It was one of the things that Nia had taught me early on. It was only in order to keep me from attempting certain spells that she deemed dangerous.

But even now the advice stuck to me, even as my path in this life turned from the one she had preordained.

I couldn't help but sigh as I wiped the sweat from his brow once again. I had tried time and time again to comfort him, to do anything that would ease the pain but there was nothing.

The only thing that seemed to even slightly improve his condition was my constant monitoring. It might have been my touch or that someone cared for him but either way I just wanted Mihr to make a recovery.

I felt a faint weight settle next to me. I went to pick them up and found them to be the two gloves that I had been rewarded with.

The one for my left hand was a pure white glove with black lillies inscribed within its seams and the other was the opposite, a black glove with black lillies.

I placed both of them upon my hands and felt the absent mana flood my fingers. They were not powerful, not as powerful as [Dignity] but I could feel the skill that they allowed me to use.

Although I did know that they both gifted me a skill I could not discern the specifics of them. Only knowing that the [White Glove of Lilies] had a healing skill grafted in it and the other a damage dealing skill.

It was a relief to at the very least know that tidbit of information. I had been racking my mind to find a solution to the apparent sickness of Mihr but now… now it had dropped into my lap.

I raised my right hand, the glove hovering over the scrunched face of Mihr. A drop of mana was let into the glove and a green light emanated from it.

The light seeped into Mihr, the once pale face regaining its color as his brows scrunched and his teeth clenched.

I did not know what I did wrong, or if for that matter it was even my fault. All I knew was that I had caused him pain.

But for some reason I was calm, even as my savior was racked with pain.

Minutes passed on as anxiety found its way into my heart. Thoughts of doubt prying their way into my mind.

'What if I did not heal him' 'What if it had not worked' 'What if…'

It was while these thoughts pried and pried that he stirred. It was not the usual squirming that I had become accustomed to while he was in pain but one of Mihr waking.

A smile lit my face as he slowly opened his eyes.

"Did we…? Did you…?" he questioned, his eyes scanning the horizon for any signs of leftover enemies.

"No, they are gone, your gambit worked." I stated, smiling down as I pulled him into a hug.

"I thought we were to die, with how many had come. I had thought that there was no chance that even together we could win but you did… you pulled off the impossible." I say, giving him no more chance to speak.

I tightened the hug for a moment before letting go of his body. Letting him regain his balance.

Mihr stood and held his hand out to me, and I took it.

"I could not have done it without you, so for that I thank you"

I looked away and blushed, muttering 'your welcome' as I moved to part ways with him.

I sat to the side of Ellaine, the cold wind blowing on my skin. I could still feel the insistent chills on my skin, the deathly feeling that came with the deprivation of my mana.

Yet there was this light, and although it had hurt at first no, hurt was not the right word. It was agonizing in its pain but still after that fleeting moment had ended the pain had stopped, and with it came a feeling of rejuvenation.

Mana flooding me and taking with it the deathly feeling. It was enough for me to feel normal. Normal enough to sit without pain.

Beside me two objects fell, greaves that fit unto my legs. I inspected them, turning them this way and that before ultimately giving up and just equipping them onto their intended spots.

Instantly I felt a source of energy, yes it was energy. It was like there was this small pool that I could draw from.

And seeing as I was tired as of the moment I tried to draw from it only to feel as if I had drunk pure caffeine. My senses were heightened to their limits, my stamina that had been depleted was now almost full.

I felt like I could run a full marathon. And I couldn't help but to gaze at the greaves that I had been given.

Wanting nothing more than to decipher the mechanisms behind them.
