Chapter 67

Chris walked over to pick the call, it was Cat that called, she was calling to ask if Jack could come in, he had earlier ordered for food, he really didn't want Jane to come here to cook he just wanted to see her face

"let him come in" he said coldly, ' of all times for the idiot to come in, why now ' he thought

Jack came in with some food bag in his hands, he placed them on the table, he wanted to unpack the food when Chris interrupted him

"you can go, Jane will do it" Chris said, he just wanted him to get the hell of out his office

hearing what he said, Jane stood up and took the bag from him, her face was still red, she couldn't get the thought of that kiss from head

Jack noticed her demeanor, he was confused, was it because of him or what, she was quite uncomfortable, he left the bag with her and left the office as fast as he can

Jane took the food out of the bag and placed them on the table, the food looked really expensive, ' but he doesn't eat food prepared by others isn't that why I'm here to cook ' Jane thought, this boss of hers is very confusing

"uhmm" Chris cleared his throat, he didn't know how to apologise to her, he felt like he wronged her, after what he did to that girl that night, he had abstained from women not just as a form of punishment to himself but because he was also scared he would repeat it over and over again

but here he was kissing his maid without her permission, he felt like he had wronged her somehow, ' how the hell was he going to apologise to her now ' he thought, he can't remember the last time he apologized to someone before, he was the boss everywhere, he never apologizes to anyone

Jane noticed he wanted to say something and he felt like he was struggling "you want to say something?" she decided to take the initiative

"uhmm" he cleared his throat again "I'm sorry" he decided to be courageous

"I didn't mean to kiss you like that, I got carried away with my thoughts, it's just that you look quite beautiful today, I'm sorry" Chris continued as he said truthfully

seeing the sincerity of his words, Jane was lost for words she didn't know how to respond

seeing that she was saying nothing, Chris was puzzled "you are not going say anything" Chris asked

"it's okay" Jane said and looked away shyly

seeing that she was still blushing, Chris smiled, ' was she that innocent ' Chris thought

"let's eat" Chris decided to changed the topic, she look she was going to burst in minutes

"I thought you don't eat food cooked by others" Jane asked as she was confused

"I ordered this" Chris said

"but it's still prepared by people you don't know" Jane interjected

"well, it was not like this before, I decided to stop living life few years back, I thought punishing myself by depriving myself of the things I love would do, I'm only eating this because of you" Chris explained

"punish yourself for what exactly, you said the same thing the other day, what did you do?" Jane asked curiously

"I did what I shouldn't have done, and I doubt if I can ever forgive myself, this is the only way I know to make up for it" Chris replied

"oh" Jane could only say not knowing how to comfort or advice him, she looked into his eyes and could see some deep sadness into his eyes, he was clearly hurting

she unconsciously reached out to him and held his hand

"I'm sure the person would have forgiven you by now, you should forgive yourself too, try to move on, I went through something years back too, I felt back then that it was somehow my fault" Jane said as her eyes watered

"but I just had to move on, wallowing in self pity and guilt would do me no good, you should try to move on too" Jane continued

she didn't know she was crying until she felt Chris's finger on her cheek wiping her tears

"I'm sorry for bringing the matter up, please stop crying I shouldn't have" Chris said

"it's totally okay, I'm not sad, I just got a bit emotional" Jane said

Chris nodded his head

"the food you should eat before it gets cold" Jane said

"oh yeah sure, but are you not eating as well, did you eat with Grace?" Chris asked

"no I didn't, but it's not proper that I eat with you, I'm your maid and you are my boss, I can't" Jane interjected

"I insist, sit and eat with me, it's an order" Chris said in his usual cold tone

seeing that he's insisting, Jane didn't have a choice, she served the food in the plate that came with the bag

they both are together in silence, each person their own thoughts, after they finished eating, Jane wanted to pack the plates

"it's fine, the cleaners will do that" Chris said

"okay" Jane agreed and sat down quietly

"do you need me to do anything for you, I mean you asked me to come here, do I still need to cook, or do something else" Jane asked

"uhmm no, I wanted you to cook before but I was too hungry to wait, so I just ordered the food instead, tomorrow I will ask someone drive you to grocery store and supermarket so you can get the food items you will be needing, you will be preparing lunch here in the office as from tomorrow henceforth" Chris lied

"oh okay" Jane nodded
