Chapter 61: The Eternal gate guards are no longer eternal!

The entrance of Konoha.

The eternal guard team consisting of Kotetsu and Izumo, sat in boredom.

They were staring intensely at the sun, that was about to disappear in the Horizon.

Kotetsu asked his buddy,

"Why do you think Lord Hokage, set up a curfew today?"

They were about to close the gate and leave it at that for the day.

This morning, ninja from the Anbu informed them that the closing time would be three hours earlier than usual.

"Why does it matter. I get to go home and have a shower, some popcorn and I can finish that new Icha Icha book."

Izumo shook his head and started daydreaming again.

They were just two random chunin, the Anbu represented the Hokage and it wasn't their place to judge them.

"Two…"

They shot up at attention and glared before realising it was the Hyuga patriarch.

The Hyuga walked up in front of them.

"Ehm... Patriarch Hiashi, is something wrong?"

"Lord Hokage issued a curfew, do you have something important you need out here? How can we help you?"

The two of them asked curiously,

All ninja were trained to follow orders, no matter if they had a higher status than another.

The exact words of the Anbu were, 'Execute all those who try to leave or enter Konoha through forcibly entry.

They didn't think the Patriarch of the Hyuga clan would be willing to trouble his clan and create political ramifications.

"I've come under strict instructions from the Hokage himself. Could you please cancel the barrier?"

Despite asking a question it sounded more like an order.

Izumo and Kotetsu looked at each other, they knew what he was referring to, the dome shaped barrier covered the entirety of Konoha village.

It was a surveillance measure that the village relied on.

As long as you had chakra, the moment you made contact with the invisible wall, the Jonin in charge of it would sense you.

Their was shifts every four hours ensuring no enemy ninja snuck into Konoha.

When they do, they send a message to the Uchiha police force or the Anbu and let them take care of it.

Kotetsu and Izumo used a smaller version of that barrier to check anyone coming inside Konoha and as such they knew how to use it efficiently.

"Well... Patriarch Hiashi, do you have a letter with the Hokage's seal?"

They didn't really understand why the Hokage would suddenly make such an order.

But since the individual making the request was the patriarch of the Hyuga clan, they didn't really want to show opposition.

"I'll give it to you in a moment. You can remove the seals first though. The Hokage made it sound urgent, wouldnt want to delay him."

They looked a little closer and noticed that Hiashi looked exhausted from presumably running here.

"Yes, sir. Right away."

Kotetsu waved his hand in apology.

Izumo ran out and quickly made several seals deactivating the barrier.

Hiashi, using his byakugan, could feel the chakra concentration decreasing ever so slightly.

The barrier had been disabled.

Kotetsu smiled and asked,

"Patriarch Hiashi, the barrier has been deactived. Could we see the letter now—"

Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm!

He didn't get to finish asking his question, but the answer came to him as a slap to the chest.

Puff! !

The Sudden attack caught Kotetsu off guard. He was sent flying back a few meters and slammed against the wall behind him.

Thud!

Kotetsu had his eyes opened wide, clearly not understanding why the Hyuga Patriarch killed him.

"Kotetsu!"

Izumo was dumbfounded, his usually laidback teammate had just been killed.

He turned to face to Hyuga clan leader and shouted in fury

"Why are you—"

"Lightning Style•Piercing Arrow!"

A calm voice came from behind as lightning chakra gathered into the shape of an arrow.

The mass of Lightning sprang forth and created a hole in his chest, destroying his heart.

Just like Kotetsu, he didn't understand how or why, he died.

He collapsed with countless questions on his mind.

Hiashi, glanced up from the two corpses and looked at the dozen people passing through the main gate before quickly hiding again.

They wore black shinobi gear and had masks to cover their faces. They didn't reveal even a trace of their skin.

He felt a sense of deja vu, this was the same dress code as the ninja that had tried and failed to kidnap Hinata six years ago.

Only one person with blue eyes and purple hair didn't bother hiding their identity.

Or rather, revealed their false identity.

From the way, they were walking so languidly, his byakugan could tell it was Hachiro.

Sounds of fighting arose from the east.

"Let's go."

Hachiro strolled over to the corpses of the two ninja previously guarding the gate.

The surrounding Anbu dashed off using the Body Flicker Technique.

"Why did you use a Hyuga technique on the corpses?"

Hiashi replied emotionlessly,

"Vacuum palm in particular is hard to make out. Don't worry I channelled in extra chakra to make it seem like a ninjutsu."

Hachiro nodded before getting ready to leave.

"Fair enough, I'll be off now. Try not to let any Hyuga get caught in the crossfire."

Hiashi nodded to show he understood what he was saying before waving him off.
