Chapter 26 - The Strike

---Next Day---

Waking up feeling quite warm, I found Shizuka snuggled up close to me while holding my hand. Having swapped with Kyoko during the night, Shizuka took the opportunity for some skinship. "Nothing out of the ordinary on the water, but on land there was lots of lights from moving vehicles.", Kyoko said pointing to a city a head of us, "They were all going towards that city, is there a Shelter there?"

Turning to Rika who was more informed than any of us, she shook her head. Stating that the only Shelter she knew of was the one in Tokyo, if there was another there it wasn't run by the government. Using the mini map to look at what the vehicles were doing, I found that it was a hotspot for Umbrella activity. Luckily for us it was focused around the center of town, not near the docks. If we were lucky they wouldn't bother us, but we would see how that panned out.

Going down to have breakfast, I divided up the tasks today and got people to work. While everyone was busy doing tasks, I decided to check out the engines to see if there was anything I could do to make us go any faster. Climbing into the engine bay, I gave the engines a once over with my system.

The owners of this ferry hadn't done a good job keeping things maintained. Overall the engines ran, but things like spark plugs need replaced, injectors needing cleaned, belts needing replaced, and parts needing more grease were causing us to lose power. The system estimated that doing the necessary maintenance would decrease our 14 day trip down to 10 which would be wonder for us. My issue was that I didn't have the parts to do the work. Parts for ferries weren't something you just ran down to your hardware store for, many parts were special order.

Using the system to locate the parts we needed, our next stop would have everything we needed in the maintenance shed on the dock. Doing what I could with the tools I had on hand, I crawled out of the engine bay around lunchtime. Seeing me covered in oil and sweat, the group let me pass so I could shower really quick. "Four days is worth stopping for a bit.", Kyoko stated.

"Agreed, how long would it take you to do the job once you get the parts.", Arashi asked.

"Probably a few hours.", I told him, "At our current pace we will arrive in the morning, if everything goes accordingly we will set off again around dinner time."

Everyone was in agreement that the work would be worth the risk. The waste dumping station was at the end of a dock so it would limit the approach vector to a single path so it wasn't too much of a risk. If worse comes to worse Oriha could just blow the dock cutting us off from shore, and she would be supervised this time to ensure she didn't go overboard again. Once lunch was over, people broke to take some time to themselves before training would begin. Using this opportunity, I pulled Kiriko and Yuriko to our room.

"The UN has approved the use of a low yield nuclear warhead that will take out Tokyo.", he said trying to stay calm, "Early reports say that the Prime Minister requested the strike."

"George, the Minister died days ago.", I replied looking on my mini map to confirm that, "He didn't call it in."

"I assumed as much, it would appear the UN is giving in as they need Umbrella's supplies to survive.", he complained, "We are months out from getting our old plants back on online so until then we have to play ball with them."

"Thank you for the warning George.", I thanked him, "We are out at sea now so I will pull us inland to prevent being caught in a tsunami."

"That would be a wise idea my friend.", he yawned, "Now if you will excuse me...I am going to have a pint."

"It's not even 8am there man.", I sighed.

"It's never too early to enjoy a quality beer.", he laughed before hanging up.

"Midna, I assume Umbrella thinks I am at that stadium?", I questioned.

"Correct, your father assumed that you were injured in the fight and were resting there still.", Midna stated, "It is also to wipe out any residual traces of the Tyrant you fought."

Rubbing my forehead, I changed our course and went down to inform the group. Noticing the shift in our course, everyone was wondering if something was wrong with the boat. Telling them that everything was fine, I explained the news I had received from George. Hearing the news all of their faces paled as we were a few hundred miles away where the bomb would drop. Saying that we were outside the range of fallout, I did ask if anyone had a pacemaker or other piece of equipment that they relied on to live.

Raising their hands, several people said they had did. Telling that I was going to build a Faraday cage to protect them. When the bomb went off we would have to deal with the EMP that would result from it. Without the faraday cage they would die in a matter of minutes after the bomb went off.

"You don't need too, my vehicle is EMP shielded. Put them inside and they will be alright.", Yoko stated motioning for them to get in.

"If that is the case I am going to work on the instrument clusters in the wheelhouse.", I told them moving to protect the equipment.

Disconnecting the dishes and antennas on the roof, I built a large faraday cage around the control equipment. Once we were safely anchored in a small sheltered cove, I pulled the wires that left the cage for the time being. Making sure nothing outside the cage was connected to anything inside it, I went outside to see how things were going.

Everyone had store their electronics inside the vehicle, and were simply waiting for me to give the all clear. Watching Tokyo on my mini map, it wasn't too much longer after that I watched all the dots disappear in an instant. Giving it twenty minutes following that to let the people come out, I told them that we were good to move now.

"You are sure?", Saya asked.

"Yes, it was thirty minutes after that call they were going to strike and we are twenty minutes past that. Militaries don't miss by that much of time.", I assured her.

"...all of those people are gone.", Rika stated, "I served with many of those officers..."

Giving her a hug to comfort her, the other officers looked saddened as well. Comforting his lovers too, Kohta told them it would be alright. Getting the ship controls rewired up, we would stay here till the morning when the tsunami would have passed.
