Prologue

I've witnessed two great fires in my life.

The first one happened when I was 9 years of age, the entire town caught fire. The reason was unknown, but almost everyone died. Everyone other then me.

No, I didn't lose my memories due to the fire. I was an orphan, my mother died giving birth to me and my father attempted to kill me at 5 years old, screaming how I was a demon and a murderer. He came at me with a knife, thankfully he was drunk so he missed my heart and stabbed through my shoulder. A neighbour heard my screams of pain and shot my father, saving me.

I got sent to an orphanage were I finally experienced what it means to have a family, to love and be loved in return.

...only for it to be torn away by the fire.

I was hospitalized for a year, the screams of pain from those being burned to death haunting me every night for many years.

When I was released from the hospital I was sent to another orphanage. At this point I was afraid that if I got close to anyone they would be torn away, so I did my best to stay away from the other kids.

I failed. Utterly.

I somehow became the 'big brother' of the new orphanage. I did my best to take care of the children, taught myself all sorts of things to make their lives easier. It helped me ignore the pain from remembering the past.

Then the second fire came. This one was much smaller, only the orphanage was caught on fire. The matron wasn't paying attention to the gas stove and it pretty much exploded.

I remember how I froze at the sight of the fire, how the screams of people from the past echoed in my ears as the children were evacuating.

What snapped me out of it was seeing that one child, Eve, wasn't going to make it. The ceiling was starting to cave in and she wasn't going to be able to make it in time.

It didn't take me even a second to make my decision. I came up from behind her and pushed her out of the way while trying to escape as well.

Unfortunately the ceiling fell and crushed my lower half of the body. I was trapped underneath the rubble, the flames creeping up from below befoe completely engulfing me.

Despite the pain and agony of being burnt to death, I can honestly say that I don't regret doing what I did and I would probably never regret it.

So yeah, I witnessed two fires in my life.

...and it's because of that last fire that I got the chance to experience so much afterwards.

I stared at the old man in front of me.

The old man in front of me stared back.

"Um...hello?"

I'm in some sort of white room, sitting in a seiza at a Kotatsu across from this old man, a steaming cup of tea in front of us both.

"Hello there young man."

He then sipped his tea pleasantly causing my eye to twitch. I picked up my own tea and took a sip, my eyes widened at the taste.

This is amazing! The best I've every had!

"I'm surprised you aren't freaking out. Most people would have at least demanded to know where they are."

I just closed my eyes and took another sip of the tea before putting it down on the table, looking back at the old man.

"Panicking would be pointless...and it wouldn't do to let the tea go cold."

The old man smiled and nodded his head happily.

"Hmm! Yes, you are quite the well mannered young man. However, do you have any guesses of where you are?"

I sighed as I absentmindely played with the tea cup.

"I'm guessing this is the afterlife? I certainly remember dying." I responded, grimacing slightly at the memory of my death.

"Well, you could say this is part of the afterlife." The old man smiled before turning serious. "Osugi Issen, if I were to offer you a new life, what would you say?"

I released yet another sigh before taking a sip of the tea.

"I...don't know."

Do I even have the right to live another life? I caused the death of my mother, drove my father crazy, was unable to save even a single person in the first fire, and never even tried to become friends with anyone other then the kids at the orphanage.

"What would this new life entail? Would I be reborn?"

The old man, Kami-Sama, shook his head. "No, I would remake your body. As for what your life would entail...well I have two jobs for you, in a sense."

"Jobs?"

"Yes. You see, I will give you powers to make you strong or allow you to become strong and after some training, I need you to jobs that will save a world, no worlds."

I smiled bitterly at hearing that. "You should probably get someone else. I'll most likely just fail."

"I beg to differ. You don't know it, but your actions in your past life, specifically your last action, saved humanity in your world."

"...what?"

"Your death made the kids, especially Eve, treasure their lives. They all became amazing people, from famous athletes to world saving doctors. Eve found the cure to a disease that would have killed humankind, you saving her inadvertently saved the world. Besides, I will give you both strength and allies."

I couldn't keep the smile off my face at hearing that. I'm happy that they all lived great lives.

"...*sigh* What are these 'jobs'?" I finally asked after taking another sip of the tea.

"Excellent! The first is more or less to prepare you for the second, to give you training and comrades. Do you know the game Fate/Grand Order?"

I blinked but nodded my head hesitantly. "I've heard of it...I never really played it in depth though."

It's a mobile game where you summon heroic spirits as servants and then combat 'Singularities'. If I remember correctly, it was gacha based like a lot of other games that were out on the phone.

I didn't really play it, just listened to one of the older kids talk about it.

"Well, there is a world where the main character doesn't exist and is basically doomed to perish because of this. So you will go in as the 48th master candidate."

"I see...what about the second job?"

That doesn't seem that bad. Kami-Sama said he will give me powers that will make me strong, so I can help the heroic spirits out.

"The second one is going to be very, very hard. You will be able to take all the servants you bond with, with you and even then it will be very difficult. The beast is a physical representation of 'cataclysm' and the 'end'. The version of me in that world was overwhelmed and forced to seal the beast away, weakening him and then dying later on. It's name is Trihexa, it's only purpose is to destory."

Well, now I'm scared.

"This world is another fictional one you may know of. It's High school DxD."

"EH!? That boob obsessed series has such a dark beast in it!?"

I couldn't help but yell at that! I watched the first two seasons of the show before stopping and it doesn't look like the type of series to have a beast that basically represent a 'dead end'.

"Hahaha! Yes, that's the one." Kami-Sama laughed before coughing to regain a more serious tone. "Now let's tell you what powers that I will give you. Before I begin though, I would like to tell you that these are the powers best fit for you."

"What does that mean?"

"Well, everyone has a certain affinity so to speak. For some it's things like Saiyans, while others it could be a Pokemon. It's mainly based off your nature and interests."

I see. I never really watched the dragon ball series, but I know that there is a lot of a screaming. God there's many memes...

"You are more inclined to the Uchiha Bloodline."

"So I'm a brooder." I deadpanned.

Even though I say that, I actually really like the sharingan. I was forced to watch the entire Naruto series by one of the boys. So. Many. Fillers!

That aside, I always liked Itachi the most but pretty much all of the Uchiha clan members were bad asses.

"Well not nessasarily. Anyway, you will more or less, be Indra's reincarnation or at least possess his eyes."

"Indra? Wouldn't that make me power hungry?"

"No, they won't effect your personality. You will have the EMS, and thanks to your past experiences, the sharingan will be fully matured with the EMS active. You will also have the rinne-Sharingan with a rikudo sennin mode but I doubt you'll be able to use it all that much due to the chakra consumption. This brings me to my next point. You will have a set of both magic circuits and chakra coils, the coils won't be affected by Gaia and you will be able to enter sage mode as well. You will be sent to an alternate dimension where you will train for three years before grand order. You should also note that your body will be limitless, meaning you will be able to go beyond human limitations, as well as ageless."

"I get limitless, sort of, but why ageless?"

"Its so you can stay close to the main characters in high school DxD by going to school with them."

Oh yay. I get to go to high school again.

"I see..."

"So, do you accept?"

I bit my lip and looked down before ultimately nodding my head.

"Okay, I'm sure everyone would have wanted me to take this chance."

"Very good! You will awaken in a cabin filled with all the necessities and scrolls that have jutsu, taijutsu, fuinjutsu, etc. There will also be kusanagi for you since you will need a weapon that can hold up against a noble Phantasm. Do you have anymore questions?"

I slurped up the rest of my tea before shaking my head.

"No, I'm ready."

"Very well then. After three years passed, you will be taken to the 'fate world', where you will acclimate there for a few months before going to chaldea."

I just nodded my head in understanding.

"Farewell, and good luck, Issen." The God smiled before everything lit up.

"Thank you for this chance, Kami-Sama." I bowed before I dissapeared from the afterlife...

It's time to start my adventure.

Well, this is the first story I've every written so go easy on me!

This chapter is just the prologue so no action will happen. In the next chapter Issen will arrive at chaldea and go through the prologue of the game.
