Chapter 33 – A Potato Town

Third person POV

Later, along the way to Monroe Town, the dragon family was amazed to see the beautiful views from the bus windows near them. "Nice, isn't it?" Russell asked as he drove along.

"Yes, it was," Rai responded looking at him.

"The speed of this thing is outstanding," Kelly commented.

"Yup, thanks." Russell smiled upon hearing that and while driving down the paved, two-way road.

His party was sitting nearby while John was taking a nap in his small compartment in the front.

They were looking forward to arrive at their destination.

Halfway through, Russell noticed a group of five walking by the roadside on the right side. Then, one young man from the group, the father, noticed Russell's bus and made a signaling gesture for a ride. Russell saw that and pulled over, before opening the bus door. "Hi there. What is it?"

"Are you going to Monroe Town, too?" the father asked him.

"Yes, we are," Russell replied positively.

His party and the dragon family noticed the group, which was actually a family of five, consisting of two parents and their 3 children.

"Us too!" the father responded back with enthusiasm.

"Can we have a ride in that thing?" his wife, a young and fair woman with brown, long hair and blue eyes.

"Sure," Russell happily responded back. "Hop in."

The big family of five did so and occupied some seats in the back.

Russell's group then welcomed them warmly, in which the family was happy to hear and respond.

With that, Russell closed the door and resumed his drive towards Monroe Town. Along the way, the five-membered family was having a good time riding with Russell and his group, with the father having relocated to a seat close to the driver's seat to strike up a conversation with Russell, who was willing to chat with him while driving.

A bit later, at 3:11 p.m., they arrived at Monroe Town, a big town surrounded by farming fields that grow root-based crops like potatoes and sweet potatoes. Upon seeing the nice welcome sign in the front of the town while entering the town borders with his bus, Russell was amazed to see the town's promising features. Then, he stopped his bus at a town street and opened the door. "Alright, we're here," he said to the family of five. "The fare is 3 gold coins for each of you."

Seeing that they had arrived in that town in just a few minutes, the family grabbed their belongings and stood up, going to the front.

Their father and husband then paid for the fares. "Thank you. The ride was nice and fast, and the fare is cheap, sir."

Receiving the money, Russell replied back happily, "You're welcome. I'm happy to help."

With that, the family of five got off the bus and walked the streets of the town, happy about their ride on Russell's bus.

As Russell put his income in a coin box in his compartment, Rai said to him, "So that's how you earned for a living." Russell then looked at her. "Yes, and that was through what I called a fare, which is a fee charged for the ride."

"Oh, so it was more a like fee that humans charged to others, right?" Kelly responded.

Russell then nodded. "Yes, but that depends on the distance and destination."

After that, having arrived at their destination, he drove his bus towards somewhere secluded in town.
