The Final Spar

3 years had passed since Jun and Kariya had first met and his skill in the sword had vastly improved. Even Kariya had to start taking him seriously when they sparred.

He specialized in using Iaido and only used Mujushin Kenjutsu style when he couldn't finish off his master in one fell swoop. He held a particular fondness for the quick draw as it was Vergil's preferred style of attack.

During this time he had also learnt a couple of other fighting styles that he saw on the internet. Unfortunately the best sword skills were heavily guarded by those hidden dojos and sects. They rarely made an appearance in today's world let alone on the internet. Because of this, Jun was only able to create a sword style that could only be called adequate but not top tier.

He had also learnt how to tap into his demonic energy and was now able to boost his physical abilities. He could even summon out the Yamato and activate his first devil trigger.

Every night he would practice staying in the form and after 3 long years he could finally stay in the form without any problems.

One night while he was asleep, he felt a sharp pain in his eyes that forced him to wake up. Slowly opening his eyes he saw a bunch of black zigzag scribbles that covered the entirety of his room.

Lying on his bed, he felt the corners of his mouth slowly edge upwards.

'About damn time.'

Removing his blanket, Jun stepped in front of his mirror and peered at his reflection. Although he wasn't a narcissist, he had to admit that he was very handsome. If he were to say he looked similar to anybody, it would be accurate to say he looked like a young white haired Kaneki Ken.

Removing his sight from his body, he paid close attention to his eyes. And just like he expected, they were a glowing blue colour with a pink hue forming the inner ring. Nodding to himself he felt a surge of pain spread from his eyes to his head. The pain was so intense that he dropped to his knees and gripped the area around his eyes. Holding back his urge to scream he grit his teeth before feeling himself slowly drift off into an empty darkness.

=====================================================

The next morning he found himself lying down in front of the mirror. Feeling a bit groggy he remembered what had occurred the previous night. Looking at his reflection he saw that his mystic eyes had deactivated and his eyes had returned to their natural grey colour.

Looking at the time he realized that he should have been downstairs eating breakfast and preparing for his morning spar.

Taking one last look in the mirror, he quickly got dressed and headed downstairs.

=====================================================

Walking down the stairs the nearby maids all bowed to him.

"Good morning young master."

Nodding his head, he ignored their presence and headed towards the dining room where a full course breakfast awaited him.

When he arrived, he was surprised to see his master sitting there reading the newspaper.

'Is he treating this place like his own house?'

After finishing breakfast, the master-student duo headed towards the dojo where they picked up their wooden swords and stood opposite each other.

"Today will be the last day I teach you anything."

Nodding his head, Jun wasn't surprised by his master's statement as he knew that his growth in the Mujushin Kenjutsu style had already reached its pinnacle. All that was left was to beat his master.

Lowering the wooden sword to his waist, he placed his right foot in front of the other and lowered his centre of gravity.

Seeing his actions, Kariya's eyebrows furrowed.

Holding the sword down diagonally he relaxed his body and prepared to make the first move.

Slowly inching his way forward, his eyes flashed as he quickly held the sword up vertically and blocked the sword swinging at his neck.

*Pak!*

'He's gotten faster.'

Slashing downwards he aimed to strike the boy on the head ignoring the fact that he was only 6 years old. Twisting his body to the side, Jun avoided the blow and countered with a flurry of well aimed sword slashes. Moving around the dojo in quick succession, made him look like he was following a choreographed script instead of having a showdown with his master.

Jumping backwards he exhaled a breath and charged Kariya again. Keeping his centre of gravity low, he jumped up and struck towards Kariya's head.

*Pak!*

Blocking the attack, Kariya used his superior strength as an adult to push the child backwards. Knowing his intent, Jun performed a backflip mid-air and then used his height advantage to attack Kariya's legs when he landed.

Moving back in retreat, Kariya defended against the boy's quick styled hit and run tactics.

Releasing a breath, the pressure exuding off him seemed to have tripled as Jun felt like he was staring at a mountain.

'He's getting serious.'

Tightening his grip on the wooden sword's hilt, he jumped backwards and changed his stance. Holding his sword down diagonally he released all the tension in his body and struck forward.

'Finally deciding to use the Mujushin Kenjutsu.'

Seeing his student use the style that he was most proficient in caused Kariya to feel proud.

Meeting his student's strike, Kariya parried it and struck downwards. Backflipping out of the way, Kariya's sword struck the wooden floor. Taking advantage of the situation, Jun kicked off the ground and thrust the sword at Kariya's chest.

Smiling at his disciple's intent, Kariya used his left hand to push against the flat side of the blade and redirect the thrust past his shoulder. Spinning his body anti clockwise he gripped his sword with his right hand and swung it towards Jun's back.

With no way to defend, Jun jumped off the ground and performed another mid-air backflip. Gracefully dodging the sword he appeared above his master's head, grabbing onto it he somehow managed to pulled himself down and stab him in the back.

"I WIN!!" He shouted in joy.

'I beat the hand of God!!'

Taking a moment to understand what had just happened, Kariya touched the top of his head and smiled. Seeing the dancing Jun made him wonder if this is what his master felt when he had defeated him for the first time.

"Yeah, you did it kiddo." Kariya patted him on the head.

Receiving Kariya's praise, he was just about to brag but stopped as had a sullen expression cover his face.

Seeing his change of expression, Kariya raised an eyebrow.

"What's wrong?"

'Shouldn't he be happy?'

Sighing lightly, Jun explained the situation.

"Now that the spar is over, master is gonna leave forever." Jun said sadly.

"Oh…" Realizing what Jun meant, Kariya suddenly went quiet. He'd been teaching the boy for the past 3 years and had grown a type of fondness for him. He honestly didn't want to leave, but he had matters to attend to outside of Kuoh.

Just then a lightbulb appeared above his head.

'I got it!'

"Hey Jun, what about if you came travelling with me?"

Hearing his question caused Jun to tremble. Although he knew he was in an anime world and had spent three long years bonding with Kariya, as a person from the real world he felt slightly uncomfortable travelling the country alone with a man of 40+ years.

[2020 A/n: Lol I'm 20 and I'd feel uncomfortable traveling the country with a 40+ year old]

But after thinking about it, he realized that if he tried anything, he still had the Yamato and enhanced strength from his Sparda bloodline to rely on.

After agreeing to his proposal, Kariya called his parents and got their permission to take him around Japan as long as Sergei accompanied them.
