Danger

The glare of their eyes made James shiver as he retracted his spear. Before the fight had ensued he noticed a misty black ball float out of the dead coyote's body. He felt something inside of him resonate with the ball and before he did anything it floated into his chest and a new feeling of power enveloped him.

His face shined and he forced a little more spirit power from his body, but instead of using it on his spear he enveloped his feet and felt as if he had become lighter. He kept some spirit in reserve as he did not know if it could run out.

Three coyote's had made their way 15 feet in front of him and while he was preparing one of them ran towards his right side. He moved his spear swiftly to block the bite of the lunging coyote, but another coyote had started to run as his back whilst it was unguarded. He felt the approaching coyote and released there was little he could do. While the coyote was jumping towards his back he decided to activate [3rd Person View] and his vision transferred to and aerial view.

He noticed that the other wolf had moved from its original position which gave him the option to duck use the bottom of his spear to fling himself to the right.

His vision returned to the usual and leapt to right barely dodging the attacking coyote and putting distance between all three. He landed and immediately thrust towards the coyote that was regaining its balance from its attack. He missed its body, but cut off its front right leg, immobilizing it for long enough he could turn his body and use the momentum to slash at the coyote that was originally attacking him.

It landed, but the damage was light since the coyote had time to dodge backwards. The third coyote had managed to creep behind his without James noticing and was able to bite his calf, causing to stagger before jumping forward and finishing off the coyote that was missing a leg. he absorbed the soul and backed up farther, giving the two remaining coyote's a chance to regroup for a second assault.

His mind was racing and the pain shooting through his legs didn't help his decision making in the slightest. He thought back to his short time in the training room and remembered his test with mana.

The coyote's rushed at him with no fear as they knew their prey was cornered and injured. James was secretly gathering mana behind his back and planned on launching it was a distraction. After he finished his mana ball he threw it on the ground and a small explosion of dust occurred and obscured James from the coyote's vision.

James dashed through the dust and thrust his spear into the neck of the uninjured coyote, killing it. Before the other coyote had a chance to do anything he sent a downwards chop to the neck of the coyote, slicing through like butter, and killing it. The souls of the 2 dead coyotes floated into his and he could feel his soul grow stronger.

His adrenaline wore off quickly and the pain from his skill and the bite started to settle in. He leaned on the wall again and slide down with one of his hand pulling down moss as he slid. James looked at the moss in his hand and felt as if he could recognize it.

'Its sphagnum moss! The anti-septic should be enough to keep my wound from infecting.'

The chances that his outdoor first-aid training would come in handy were slim, but he was lucky. He tore some fabric off from his shirt and used it to hold the moss in place.

His mana felt a little drained after the ball he had used to distract the felines.

His stats relayed the same information he had gathered from resting. The bite wasn't a issue and that the mana ball drained a 1/4 of his mana. When his was about to stand up again a system prompt popped up in front of him

[Quest: Clear Floor 1 - Part 1

Description: The cave is overrun by coyote's, clear them out and find the exit.

Goal: Defeat 10 Coyote's - 4/10

Rewards: Clear Floor 1 - Part 2, 1 AP.]

The quest enlightened him on what his goal truly was on the 1st Floor. His headache had subsided from his skill use and the cogs in his mind turned fast and wondered about the possibilities of Mana and Spirit.

'I should test the damage of the mana ball on the next coyote.'

James got up and held the spear in one hand, he retracted to Spirit from his feet so he would not tire out. He walked for a short time before stumbling upon a coyote, but it was sleeping.

'Perfect practice.'

He conjured the mana ball in his hand and just as the coyote started to feel as though something was wrong, he flung the ball right at the midsection of the coyote and to his surprise it had pierced straight through the coyote and all of it's guts spilled on the ground while the ball crashed a few feet away. The soul was absorbed, but this time there was a system prompt.

[The density of the Coyote Soul is too weak to extract more Spirit power. All remaining souls will be converted into mana to replenish lost mana.]

Although he was sad about his loss of Spirit power he was excited that he would be able to use magic more freely.
