Dante's Hunting Session Part 3

*BANG!*

A deafening sound echoed throughout the dark forest as it reverberated through the cold air. It broke the calm and still silence of the darkness and brought chaos to the tranquil space of the forest. And following it were many more.

*BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!*

Dante held his rifle tightly under his pale and fatty fingers while shooting through its iron sights. He kept firing at the monsters and continued loading ammunition without care.

On the other hand, his minion, a Gigantis Kryftis named Roshan, charged through the surrounding monsters and punctured their snail-like eyes without hesitation and delay.

Obviously, one Gigantis Kryftis wasn't enough to take care of the blinded surrounding monsters. So with this in mind, Dante began shooting with his rifle to aid his minion.

Wasting a lot of ammunition without any thoughts of conservation wasn't an efficient thing to do.

But this wasn't the time for that.

His survival relied on getting out of these grave circumstances alive along with his minion. And the thoughts of conserving ammunition wouldn't stop him from achieving such a goal.

In any case, he kept firing without any care as the blazing fire of gunpowder flashed on his face.

*BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!*

Loading each ammunition with his shaken and numb hands while also trying to calm his unstable breathing was extremely hard. To be honest, Dante was barely holding on.

Thankfully, with the existence of Roshan, the mere pressure given by the monsters had been split into 2/3rd. He was thankful to have chosen to conquer instead of devouring.

Otherwise, it would have been incredibly hard for him to even last in this kind of situation.

"This is bad. Some of them are regaining their senses."

Dante muttered while observing the situation before him. The monsters were beginning to regain their senses. It would be damned if a lot of them awoken without their eyes getting punctured. That would be problematic.

*Tsk!*

He clicked his tongue in annoyance and gave a new order to Roshan.

"Take care of the ones who are about to regain their senses. I will be cleaning the leftovers."

His order was to change Roshan's objectives into clearer ones. Instead of puncturing every eyeball of the monsters surrounding them, Roshan would focus on the ones about to be awoken.

Dante, on the other hand, would take care of the leftovers.

Roshan stopped his movements after noticing that the monster before him was still blinded. It then surveyed its surroundings and noticed new targets. Without delay, it charged toward them and punctured their eyeballs instead.

*SCRAHHHHHhh!!!*

*SCREECCHHH!!!*

*GRRRAAHHH!!!*

Shrieks echoed in succession as a result of the cries of the monsters escaping from their mouths. Such cries gave the monsters who couldn't sense their surroundings a feeling of panic. Noticing this, Dante gritted his teeth and kept firing at the monsters.

*BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!*

"This is bad. I'm slowly losing ammunition."

Dante mumbled since he had noticed that his ammunition was dwindling in an extreme manner. It would be quite a problem if he lost everything before even getting out of the forest.

"Sh*t!" Dante cursed to himself before putting his rifle down.

Roshan kept puncturing the eyeballs of many bastards while the ones who still hadn't regained their senses began escaping one after another. It didn't even matter if they hit trees and destroyed their own eyeballs along the way.

All of them wanted to escape from this unknown situation.

Dante could only watch as many of the potential profits escaped into the darkness of the forest. He sighed to himself, trying to calm himself by thinking that greediness would only bring downfall.

'I should calm down.'

'It may have been a lot of lost, but the ones before me should be enough.'

The monsters that got their eyeballs punctured kept endlessly bleeding. They were quite weak monsters with a huge amount of weaknesses. Despite having great instincts and senses, a hit on their eyeballs would spell a slow death.

He was looking at the monsters lying on the ground, unceasingly bleeding with their strange blood. A lot of the monsters had already escaped, and some died on them during the great escape.

Even though he lost quite a lot of ammunition, the corpses before him would give him a lot of things. It didn't spell some short-term gain. It was the long-term gains that mattered the most.

Roshan kept licking the blood on its claws as if it had already stopped attacking. Fortunately, it wasn't that much injured by the whole ordeal. Though the scratches from the first battle at the branches should be a problem.

"Roshan, good job."

Dante complimented as the monster turned its gaze toward him after hearing a compliment. It then nodded and continued licking its own claws.

He wryly smiled upon noticing his minion's reaction. But it did make him wonder if Roshan gained some intellect during the conquering process.

'Well, intellect or not, it doesn't matter. It's still Roshan.'

He shook his head and continued on with the observations of the surroundings. The crimson flares were slowly fading, and the darkness was about to envelop everything once again.

As the darkness shrouded everything, Dante noticed something at the edge of his sight. It was a question mark with a number of 13, and it kept blinking in and out from his perception.

At this moment, he noticed that the question mark with the little number 13 beside it should have been the notifications he had received. Now that he had thought about it, he hadn't received many notifications during his battle against the monsters.

It looks like they have been stockpiled instead of being immediately released during the battle.

Dante was actually grateful for this as it would have been distracting if every kill during a large battle would resulted in something covering the entirety of his view.

"The system is a lot more user friendly than I thought. I didn't expect the problem of digital screens, yet it already tackled them for me."

He muttered to himself while staring at the blinking question mark. He then sighed and uttered. "Please reveal all of the notifications."

It was a simple order which made the blinking question mark disappear.

Numerous digital notification screens then materialized before him with their radiant light. There were a dozen reports coming in from the killed monsters. And they were somewhat hefty.

It was a long list of seemingly never-ending yet small reports regarding the corpses of the Gigantis Kryftis surrounding Dante and Roshan. Instead of being packed into one report, each of them had its own single report.

Dante was confused at first before understanding that there was the option of devouring and conquering. This means that monsters couldn't be packed into one report.

"This is quite troublesome, but understandable."

Meanwhile, Dante was having a hard time going through the reports given to him. The ones within the Triton-Class Battlecruiser hovering above them were somewhat shocked. It was unbelievable to have a sizable amount of monsters fading almost simultaneously from the radar.

And this was a problem to them, a sign of a possible and disastrous emergency within the marathon test.
