Chapter 100. Treasure Biased

Alaric had used only two elements and he was not willing to reveal another one yet. He had a feeling that the girl was not as simple as a fire elementalist.

Alaric raised his hand and it happened instantly. An inscription lit up above the deer. The only downside of inscriptions was that it could not produce more power than your stage could.

The best it could do was to multiply its power in the same stage. But Alaric had already calculated this. The inscription was not as usual. It appeared more complex and it could be said to be thicker.

But that was not the major eye-catching factor but the symbols around it. These symbols made it appear to not look like an inscription. Alaric's arrays and inscriptions usually glowed golden.

Only one who was well versed with arrays and inscriptions could tell what those symbols were. It came without saying that creating an inscription was very difficult but it was even more difficult to add arrays to your inscription.

Inscription's sole purpose was attack but arrays had many purposes and could also be used for attack. There were amplification arrays that could be used to amplify the power of inscriptions.

Inscriptions were used to amplify one's elemental attack power but what happens if one used an array to amplify an already amplified attack?

The result would be extemporary and the attack would be super amplified. The symbols on the side of the inscription were array convergence points.

These were places where the array and inscription merged together as one. The sharper the symbols were the more accurate they were. These symbols on the edge of the inscription were detailed.

Some symbols appeared like music notes and others appeared like flying birds. Others had serpent like appearance and other appeared like stars.

Some were like tringles and other symbols like the alpha and beta. The center of the inscription appeared like it was rotating and so did the entire inscription.

The symbols would appear to move and stop momentarily for few seconds. It appeared like a series of interconnected gears with the central part glowing brighter and rotating faster.

"Sarah, what is the range of attack power the inscription can produce?"

[>Subject can produce an attack of the eight stage]

Alaric laughed wryly. Not because the power was 'too low' for him but because Sarah had abandoned his name and called him subject once again.

The power of the inscription was at least in the range he wanted it. He could amplify it even more if need be. All this process took less than a second. What Alaric realized was that splitting his mind several times eased the creation of the inscription.

Lightning struck from the inscription and struck the deer. It should have been impossible to strike the deer but they had trampled on its pride and it was feeling low hence its slow reaction.

The lightning struck its back and all that could be seen was a black patch on its back which was smoking. Alaric felt some hope after managing to land a hit on it.

"Not good enough," he mumbled and the girl looked at him and rechecked her cards again.

With every move that he made, she would increase the number of cards she could use to win against him but this move of his made it appear like she would have to go all out to defeat him.

Seeing she had not yet managed to scratch it yet he had made his first serious attack and did that just put more pressure on her. She did not want to believe that he was stronger than her. She knew that she now had to stop holding back for he wasn't.

If she knew that he was not yet taking this seriously, she would give up comparing herself with him. Rey and Aurora already stopped doing so.

Alaric knew that it was about time that deer took them seriously. It had underestimated them greatly and it was going to take them as worthy rivals.

The two wind blades that sliced at them made their hair rise. They came at blinding speed that even he could not reach with both wind and lightning element.

"Watch out the treasure won't block this one," Alaric said as he leaped to the side. He felt the hair that had been left behind get sliced.

The girl had ignored him but the last minute she had dodged but her veil was torn halfway at the nose as it dropped. There was a thin slash on her nose as blood trickled.

She wiped it and looked at him once again. She remembered his words when he told her about her over reliance on tresure and she could not refute that it had almost cost her life.

But there was no more time to think as more wind blades sliced at them. Their speed was blinding and one who could not keep up with its movement would see nothing but a blur.

Alaric had to dodge immediately the attack was released or he would not be able to dodge at all. The deer did not let them off and started sending multiple slashes.

It would slash immediately it saw them move and they were in the backfoot. They were getting out of space to dodge as they were all dodging heading in one direction.

They suddenly stopped when they were only milimeters away from each other. The deer had played them. It had made sure that they were evading heading in one direction such that they were now caught in the middle.

The deer did not hesitate as it sent a series of wind blades at them. The windblades were such that they could not dodge sideways.

This was because as they were busy dodging heading to the same direction, the deer had been releasing multiple wind blades in the direction they were coming from.

The series of windblades could only be blocked but they both knew the consequences of blocking. Alaric started calculating his next move.

Even if he could hit the deer, it would not change the direction of the blades. Also, the deer was cautious of the inscription above it. But it did the unexpected as a wind spear charged at the inscription.

Alaric quicky retracted his conciousness from the inscription as it turned into golden dust and disappeared. He knew how dire the consequence of injury on one's conciousness was.

He had a complex look as he was not sure what the next move was. Also, he did not want to recklessly attack with his soul. Sarah told him how fragile the Soul was and that it could be injured.

His conciousness was part of his soul thus injury of the conciousness led to injury of the Soul. He knew that it was their only shot but suddenly the girl removed a treasure.

The treasure was probably one time use. A red dome apeared infront of them and blocked the incoming attacks. She looked at Alaric saw him smile wryly.

Her cheeks burned with shame but what could she do? She could not die just because he was treasure biased right? The veil was hanging on her ears and her face was all bare for him to see.

But he did not show much of a reaction to her. She had already taken a pill and the wound on her nose was healing. She could have remended the veil but seeing the look of indifference he showed just made her not want to wear the veil at all.

What she hated most was the lustful gazes but he never looked at her that way. She really appreciated it for she did not usually like wearing the veil.

But she could feel a hidden emotion encrouch her. The fact that he did not show interest in her made her want to see him do so. Her reason being she was used to everyone giving her attention.

Even with the veil, it still failed in hiding her beauty. She slapped her cheeks. Why was she straying in her thoughts? She was supposed to think of the next move not something as petty as that.

The dome disappeared and the attacks had stopped.

"Do you have any special abilities that might be useful, keep treasures aside, we better lay all our cards now," Alaric said.

She shot him an amused glance smiling. It was enough to melt someone's heart.

"Is it that you are treasure biased? You really are against treasures," she said. She did not miss the change he had when she smiled.

"Its just that I rely on myself. Also, what would you do in the absence of these so called treasures?" He asked and she had a serious look.

" I am not entirely reliant on treasures," she defended as she went on to explain her abilites.

" As you have already guessed, I am not a fire elementalist alone. My other elements are light and metal. I am not as good as you are in arrays and inscriptions. I have few light and fire techniques.

"If I use techniques, we might be able to get some footing..."
