Imitation Mutation

[IM] was short for a deadly virus called Imitation Mutation that killed off 80% of the world's population in 2038 during the first few weeks. When the outbreak of the virus happened, countries border closed, safe zones and quarantine areas were established but they still couldn't manage to curb the virus. The virus [IM] was able to completely mutate and take control over a human's body. Turning them cannibalistic and brain dead along with making humans into monsters with insane strengths and powers that were created from the host's fears. These monsters were called mutates. However, the possibilities of [IM] mutating a human was 35%, which is a lower percentage of humans dying a few hours after contracting the disease. 0.4% of mutates can turn out to be a special case where the hosts still have complete control of themselves even after receiving the effects of the mutation. Zephyr was a special case of mutates that was being kept as a prisoner along with many others. To protect himself, he hid himself away in the void, hopelessly waiting for the day to break free. Finding himself a new 'home' to stay in, he attempts to neglect his past and fixate on the present. However, it seems like fate bears a strong hatred for Zephyr. Revenge, disgust and death followed him wherever he went.

Chapter 19

"That's the child I saw? He looks smaller than I expected." A voice sounded through the whole chamber that was lit with candles. The sound of the voice made the fire of the candles flicker sinisterly.

"This is it! 100%, he even managed to push me down and held an object to my throat." Killan reassured, pointing at the small cut that was barely visible on his throat.

Zephyr kept his head down and glanced around the room. It was too dark for him to see anything past 5 metres, the candles weren't a sufficient light source. He gritted his teeth and winced when the pain of his injuries hit him, the adrenaline that numbed him had went away.

The person at the very front of the room stayed silent while small tapping sounds echoed throughout the whole room.

"My liege?" Killan nervously said, tilting his head while the red blazing fire reflected in his dark eyes.

"Hold his head up, I want to see his face." The person commanded in a harsh tone.

Killan immediately complied and grabbed Zephyr's hair roughly and forced his head up, the younger wincing in pain while he slowly opened his eyes. Seeing that Zephyr's face was covered in blood, he took out a cloth and roughly wiped the blood off his face.

Loud footsteps thundered through the chambers, it got even louder but it came to a halt. A hand reached out and touched Zephyr's face, gripping his chin tightly while tilting it left and right.

The man let out a dark eerie laugh and let go of the child's face while he returned to his original position. "He looks familiar. I can't seem to put my finger on it. Think you could lend a hand?"

Killan gulped and realised that what his liege has said was a threat, if he couldn't recognise who the child was he would receive a punishment. Thousands of curses went through his head while he bend down to the child's eye level and inspected his face.

Hearing his liege yawn, sweat ran down from his forehead while his mind went through all his memories like a record. The tapping went in tune with his palpitating heartbeat, once it stops, will his too?

Right when Killan was about to surrender and admit his defeat, his head hit a rough memory. He let go of Zephyr's cold face and looked at his liege. "I am certain my liege knows who this child is, you were testing me..?"

The man let out a snicker and clapped his hands together and a loud applause shook the whole room, candles about to fall off from their pillars of support. "You've done great, Killan. We'll talk later after you sent that kid to the healers. He's unconscious right now, if he dies.." he stopped and so did his applause.

"I'll do everything in my power." Killan immediately replied, placing his fist on his left chest and bowing while slowly backing off with Zephyr. Smoke surrounding them and once again, they disappeared.

Killan dragged Zephyr to one of the beds and looked around for the healers, pulling curtains to the sides while scratching his head in confusion. "Andrew? Heather?" he called out, desperately trying to remember names of the healers.

Immediately, a man in a white coat rushed out from one of the rooms. His hair was incredibly messy with knots in it, it looked as if he hadn't combed it in years. He wore glasses that helped him to hide his large eye bags slightly. "Another one?" he asked, looking at Zephyr and making a pained expression.

"Yeah, I know you got to deal with Connor, Blaze and Kayden but boss wants him healed too." Killan replied, digging out a box from his pocket and opening it. He plopped a cigarette in his mouth and lit it with a lighter. He tied his hair up and scratched his head once again. "I'll be leaving than, call me if anything happens to him. I gotta deal with the other two."

Andrew sighed and walked towards the boy. He slowly reached out his hands and hovered it over Zephyr's body to check for how major the injuries were before he felt a zap and pulled back his hand. "What the?" he murmured, trying it out again and his hands were zapped. He quickly stood up and went through his drawers and prepared for surgery.

He picked up a phone and requested for assistance. "I need help, new case just came in. In critical condition and I need to perform surgery. He's got radioactive substance in him along with poison running in his veins, his external injuries on the other hand, is a whole different matter." He said, wondering how the boy was still alive.

Castiel and Ethan followed behind Damien and they both came to a halt when they saw the surroundings around them after they had exited the tunnel.

There was no sign of the skies that provided them with light. Only lamps and candles shone brightly in the large vicinity with no one to be found. Buildings were built low as any higher would've reached the ceilings that were overgrown with vines and moss. It looked as if the place had been abandoned and not taken care of.

"It's late, I'll guide you to my group building and you shall take your rest there." Damien said, walking on the stone path and looking around.

"Don't you think you still owe us an explanation?" Ethan questioned, holding onto Damien's arms roughly.

Castiel didn't hold him back this time and allowed him to carry out his investigation. He was rather frustrated with Damien and the others for leaving them behind without a word.

"All I did was follow my liege instructions. I am in no place to explain any further." Damien replied coldly, brushing off Ethan's grip.

Mad, Ethan felt blood boiling in his veins. However, he stayed silent as a mouse.

They reached a building with a large gate while Damien pushed the metal gate with force, it creaked loudly and sounded throughout the whole area, almost being able to wake up a whole neighbourhood.

"You'll see some people inside that you haven't been introduced to. Try not to glare or even make eye contact with them." Damien warned, he wore a worried expression on his face while he walked across the yard to the building.

Once the front door was opened, people turned their attention to it immediately. Looking at the entrance with their eyes gleaming with curiosity.

Damien was the first to walk in, his presence made the whole entire room atmosphere changed. Everyone continued with their business when they found nothing interesting worth their time, before they felt another aura.

Ethan did exactly what Damien told him not to do. He glared at them with disgust, he saw the looks on their faces when he had taken a peek through the gap of the door. If he didn't exert his dominance now, he would be an easy target for their schemes. He figured.

Castiel walked into the room with one of his arms over the other, holding it tightly to ease his racing heartbeat. He looked around and saw everybody eyes on him, it felt like he had just fallen into a hell hole. Their eyes in that moment looked like a predator fixating upon their newly found prey.

Worried, Ethan covered Castiel and slapped his hand gently. That got the older to release his arm and stand up taller, showing his huge stature. Even though he was young, his build was abnormal for his age. Reaching the height of 5'8 while his body looked naturally toned, enough to throw a good wicked punch. All at the age of 13.

Ethan than noticed their eyes had changed into a more disappointed look, he smiled and made a mental note.

"That boy is sharp." One stated nonchalantly with no intention to hide his wandering eyes.

"I don't like him." Another said, crossing her legs and staring at the red-haired boy with hatred.

Damien covered the duo with his large build and shook his head at the people. "One more look and I'll dig your eye out." He threatened. The pressure he emitted was intense, worthy of his title 'leader'.

Everyone made an annoyed sound and got back on track while some braver ones glanced at the children from the corner of their eye.
