Yuri Pakrovich was a man that was blessed not only by the gods but also by the universe itself. He is no main character but he might as well be.
Even Walter, the protagonist, feared this man even with his arrogance. He cannot even match Yuri even if he sacrificed everything.
No, he would never defeat this man named Yuri in a million years. And now this man is standing before Leonard.
Something that will never happen in the novel.
"Don't be too nervous, I'm here because I'm curious."
"C-curious about what?"
Even though Yuri said that it's easier said than done, after all, Leonard's instinct is screaming at him that he would be finished the moment he did something wrong in front of him.
"hmm…" Yuri tilted his head before smiling brightly "Secret."
Yuri was carefree, Leonard didn't even bother to wonder how Yuri managed to sneak into these archives but remembered that this man has over an unknown number of magical techniques. It wouldn't be a surprise if this man could teleport.
"Well, you're looking at the Imperial Edict of 1339 right? Where they keep the protection of Ethereal beings such as spirits, fairies, and pixies, am I right?"
When Leonard heard of this he gave a slow nod, then Yuri pointed at a certain bookshelf with the number 32 on the side.
"That is where the year the 1300s started."
Leonard was uncertain—he was a bit confused about why Yuri wanted to help him with this. But before he opened his mouth the Barrier disappeared and so did the owner.
"Huh… this makes me nervous…"
Leonard couldn't help uttering those words, but he couldn't always think of Yuri's motive, so he continued by going to the bookshelf Yuri pointed out and started scanning the books.
It is the records that start in the 1300s. So it wasn't that hard to find the specific edict of the protection for the ethereal beings.
「The Imperial edict of 1339: the protection of Ethereal beings.
This edict was ordered by Christoph Winstead on August 6th, 1339 that all nobles and officials of the Empire will surrender their slaves of Ethereal beings, if failed to comply will have a punishment of either banishment or deprivation of their noble title. 」
This is the main reason why Richard would've gone to jail if ever Elizabeth snitched about him mingling with a Fairy. Forget going to jail he might as well disappear from the aristocracy.
But, Leonard was not here for this edict itself. Leonard started browsing again, From stacks of files and books till he finally managed to get it.
「Continuation and clause of the Imperial Edict of 1339; The Protection of Ethereal beings.
This continuation and clause state that falling in love with an Ethereal being is an action needed to be reported to the nearest authority, the protection of Ethereal beings needs this report for the possibility of domestic abuse. In case of domestic abuse, the partner of the Ethereal being would be subjected to life in prison, or if one is a noble would be subjected to life on the Mongolian Islands.」
When Leonard saw the Mongolian Islands his brows knit, and his expression became ugly. The Mongolian Islands are islands that are filled with cannibals. You don't even need a thorough explanation of why these islands are such a bad thing.
Leonard sighed. So he looked at the record once again and thought about a few things. These archives are not available to the public, so how is going to bring them up in court?
Simple, if Elizabeth decided to bring it up then he would simply ask for the edicts of the previous Emperor. The court should see the facts, if they didn't do so the problem wouldn't only be on the credibility of the Royal family. It would be a political move as well, so they surely wouldn't do something reckless as being biased in court.
"Now, just in case…"
Leonard took a picture without noise nor a flash, he simply took a picture of the edicts related to the Protection of Ethereal beings.
After this, Leonard only has one thing to worry about. Escape from the Archives. And there is one way to do so.
Leonard looked around to find a small rectangular window that blesses the Library with a small amount of moonlight.
This rectangular window is no bigger than Leonard's head.
"Yeah, this will do."
The outside scene is not that beautiful, after all the outside scenery through the window is filled with weeds and plants that cannot be identified by Leonard's knowledge.
What Leonard was about to do is something risky. He took something out of the shadows and it was a fuse.
"several alarms could go off if this is discovered."
Leonard threw the fuse at the window, just to find out that it was made of bulletproof glass.
"Mother fucker."
The door inside the library has no gaps at all, he couldn't move very freely inside the Palace at all. There are no vents as well, the internal structure is well thought out.
However, not all hope is lost. As long as there is an opening of 1cm Leonard could squish his shadow in.
So the first place Leonard tried to find is the electrical source of the palace. The palace is a very old historical building. It's not built to be changed, later on, so all the electrical outlets here are kind of just placed in.
Unlike the Cameras outside, the internal structure of the palace is unchangeable. So with this Leonard had a chance, however, if he went to uncharted grounds that leads to God knows where his disappearance from the marchen territory could lead to suspicion.
Once Leonard found a hole in a wall with cables neatly tied together sticking out. He went in as it seemed to be 6cm wide. As the cables are quite thick.
This led to a fake library, So Leonard just followed the cable till the end. It led him outside, however, his situation was not promising as there were tons of guards outside.
Leonard decided the best course of action was to circle the palace once again and find an opening.
But the situation wasn't changing, guards were everywhere. Whilst Leonard has nue mana coating his skin if he ever got near those guards without hiding in someone's presence like the janitor he surely will get caught.
Leonard, hidden in the bushes, continued to find a path to lead him out. However, there seems to be an urgent problem arising.
The sun.
The skies are colored orange and it's cold if the sun has completely reached its rightful place Leonard might get exposed, with little place for his shadow to hop unto he will surely get caught.
The sun was rising every minute and Leonard was in a rush, it would take a complete hour without any obstacles to care about from the palace and back to the Marchen territory.
Any minute that Leonard wastes will surely get caught by Lorraine, as Lorraine is a morning person. Yes, Leonard is much more scared of Lorraine knowing that Leonard was not at home rather than getting caught by the guards.
Leonard threaded his every move till he was finally far from the palace, this time. Leonard was going full throttle trying to go back home.
"shit shit shit!"
He has no time to check what time it is, but he is hoping it wasn't seven in the morning, or else he is doomed.
And of course, with the sun already rising Leonard assumed that it was six in the morning.
"WAAHHH"
***
Lenneza woke up from her bed and stretched her limbs, the sunlight that dawned upon her made a picturesque scene if ever someone saw her.
Her hair draped down her shoulder and her loose pajama wore down a bit of her shoulder, exposing her clavicle.
"n…. "
She looked at the clock that was hanging on the wall.
"Yea…. "
She then slumped back into the bed.
"Five more minutes… yeah just five minutes."
Then she received a gentle knock as if the other wanted to make sure that the person in the room was awake rather than forcing them to wake up.
"..."
Lenneza of course knows who this is. That gentle knock could only belong to one person in the whole mansion.
"Come in~"
With a sweet voice, Lenneza welcomed the guest to her room.
"S-sister!"
With a low tone, Lorraine went inside Lenneza's room, Still in her cute little pajamas. Lorraine's slippers are pink rabbits as well, and every tap it makes was cute to the eyes of just newly awakened Lenneza.
"Mm… big sis is a bit tired so… five more minutes okay?"
"f-five more?"
"Mhmm…"
Lorraine seemed to contemplate but then gave a soft nod and a bright smile.
"Un! Five more minutes."
Lenneza then pulled Lorraine to her bed and hugged her tight, she was getting cute aggressiveness from Lorraine. However, out of Lenneza's expectation, Lorraine hugged back, this made Lenneza feel even more cute aggressiveness, hugging Lorraine more tightly.
'I came back to be a good sister to Leonard but instead got Lorraine. Thank god I went back in time!'
But then Lenneza remembered the god she is thankful for is the overlord who placed Leonard in such a shitty situation so she was a bit disgusted by her own words.
But those emotions were washed away after Lorraine buried her head on Lenneza's chest. She also seemed to have been enjoying Lenneza's presence.
"Big s-sis, It's already five minutes!"
"Un…"
Lenneza gave a nod, however, she wasn't willing to get up.
"Sister?"
Lenneza hummed in response but she was still hugging Lorraine and wasn't getting up. When Lenneza wasn't moving at all Lorraine started to pout.
It was so cute that Lenneza considered teasing Lorraine a bit more but instead decided against it.
"Okay, I'm up, I'm up."
Lenneza started sitting up and stretched once again, Lorraine got off the bed waiting for Lenneza.
"Are we going to wake up Leo again Lori?"
"Un!"
Lorraine nodded happily, this was her routine, waking up her siblings, Well it used to be the opposite. Leonard would go and wake up Lorraine, same with Lenneza but suddenly it turned around and Lorraine started waking them up.
Lenneza washed her face in the bathroom connected to her room before changing into normal clothing, but before they went to Leonard Lenneza helped Lorraine change, even though that's the job of Lorraine's personal maid.
Though, Lenneza voiced out that she wanted to do this, caused the maid to be sullen, solely because the maid enjoys being with Lorraine too.
After this, they went to find Leonard's room and knocked.
"B-brother?"
—silence.
They were met with silence, of course, Lorraine wasn't discouraged. He knocked again and called out, they waited a few more minutes and still were met with the same silence.
This made Lenneza's eyes squint at Leonard's door. It made her think that something happened, but she just shook her head.
However, she couldn't help but overthink. What if something happened whilst it's night? What if Leonard was suddenly kidnapped?
Then they heard the door Creek.
"Brother?"
Lorraine called out. What presented them was a very haggard Leonard with tired eyes and a very dry face.
"Hey… uh… oh it's already morning."
Leonard fixed his own room, meaning he arranged every piece of furniture and even the curtains by himself.
The room behind Leonard was dark, No light was passing through that curtain at all. But the computer was open and Java was opened.
"You… Stayed up all night coding?"
Leonard pursed his lips and placed his hands on his hips.
"uh…"
Then he shrugged.
"Lori, looks like brother can't go with you today."
"R-really?"
"Yeah… I uh… "
With Leonard's sloppy words Lenneza interjected and spoke calmly.
"Lori, Your brother didn't get any sleep so let's give him a bit of time. So why don't we go first?"
"Aww… okay" Lorraine dejectedly answered."
Lenneza then looked at Leonard, squinting her eyes and knitting her brows.
"Go and turn off your computer. If you don't, I'm telling father."
"Okay, okay chill."
Leonard raised his hands in a defeated manner and then went up to his computer and closed it. When Lenneza saw this she nodded and went away with Lorraine.
After seeing this, Leonard just slumped to the ground.
"Fuckin hell…"
