Ch. 9 Why Are You Nice To Me?

Chleora was reserved and gave Axel a silent treatment the entire flight to England. Even when they arrived at Axel's mansion in Hereford, the girl was still mute and didn't talk to him.

The girl only asked one of the maids about her room, and then they parted ways.

Axel let her adapted for weeks and didn't push the girl. He waited until the girl's rage subsided.

After that, Axel tried to approach his wife. He faced his indifferent wife, who continued to remain silent with great patience. With great care, he took care of her when she fell ill. When Chleo had a nightmare, Axel also accompanied her and comforted her.

Even though Chleo still refused to talk to him, at least she let him comfort her.

No matter how cold or hostile Chleo was to Axel, he always treated her with a god-level of affection and patience. It was as if the incident where that man was being mean by threatening her cruelly never happened.

Aside from forcing her to marry him, Axel never pushed nor cross the line and treated her gently and sweetly. When Chleo wished to sleep in a separate room, the man complied willingly without protest.

When she felt lonely but didn't want to see his face, Axel always stood behind her as if to ensure her that he was there for her.

Chleo did feel his presence, and she didn't mind his companion. But, every time she saw his face, she would recall the moment he threatened her. It would bring her hatred back, and she couldn't help but hate the man even more.

Axel figured out he would approach her without showing his face. Chleo knew his intention, and it made her wonder why this man forced her to marry him in the first place.

She assumed once the man cornered her to do something she dislikes, that man would force his way on her. But Axel proved her wrong.

They already married for a year, but there was no slightest hint the man would attack her. On the contrary, the man tried to approach her like he used to.

Axel provided everything she needs and ensured her welfare way better than her parents did. If only she weren't blind to the hatred, she might be making every girl in this world jealous of her.

She married a handsome man with a greek god-like face and caring, loving her with all his heart and soul. No matter what she did to annoy the man or how indifferent she was to him, Axel still treated her gently and gave no punishment.

If there was a dreamy caring husband competition in this world, Chleo felt sure Axelard would be at the top.

Only after a year of marriage did Chleo started wondering.

Why is her husband so nice to her?

Is there something she didn't know behind his threat last year?

She was too furious at that time so that she never thought of the reason behind the threat.

One night, when they had a silent yet eerie dinner in the dining room, Chleo couldn't control her curiosity and voiced her inner mind without thinking.

"Aren't you bored of me? Why are you still nice to me?"

Axel was a little surprised at her sudden question. This is the first time Chleo has the initiative to open the talk first. He was overjoyed, and no one could measure his bouncing heart.

He thought Chleo finally opened up to him, and he blurted something he shouldn't have.

"Because I love you."

Chleo snorted sarcastically at the answer. Love? How could she possibly believe it?

"If you love me, you will not threaten me by using the people I hold dear. Neither will you caged me up in this place and forbid me from visiting my family in America. What kind of love is this? You don't love me. You'll never do."

Axel never allowed his wife to reach out to her family because he didn't want to let her see her father's current condition. He knew Mister Vincentius Regnz and others were quite overwhelmed by Alexis's hidden attack on the Flex group's top stocks.

He didn't care whether Alexis ended up continuing his vengeful scheme against Vincent or not. He only gave his full attention to Chleo even if he had to take the girl away from the Regnz family.

Even though Alexsei was guilty, the older man was still a member of the Peskhov family, his nephew's father.

Despite the fact that he had once befriended Vincent in their younger days, the blue king couldn't forgive the other man. Vincentius had no right to judge his adoptive family's sinful act.
