Chapter 46: Battle of eggs

"Lord Commander Alexander, I believe they're starting to attack," the Guard Commander reported to Alexander, the general of the southern army of the Tamerid Empire. After listening to the guard's report calmly, Alexander took a deep breath. "Understood," he said firmly. "Prepare the defenses. We will take our positions with our troops." His eyes gleamed with determination, reflecting courage to his soldiers. "We are ready to repel this attack. We trust in the strength of our army." Then, he swiftly departed from the guard and headed towards the battlefield.

Despite a significant distance between the two armies, it was evident that the Tamerid Empire's army was larger. However, General Alexander of the Southern Army was a highly experienced man.

A few minutes later, there was a movement in the rear of Alpshar's army. Along with the firing of catapults, Alexander saw numerous round, colorful objects in the sky. Alexander had no idea what these objects, launched from the catapults, were. He had never seen green-colored projectiles before. Eventually, these green balls targeted the Tamerid Empire army.

"What is that thing?"

"Hey, this thing is sticky and disgusting."

"This thing... This thing is a creature egg..."

"What? What did you say? A creature egg?"

"These are not cannonballs, THESE ARE CREATURE EGGS!"

"What? Why are they launching creature eggs?"

As the soldiers debated among themselves, Alexander listened attentively. He then approached one of the thrown eggs, looked inside and was shocked. Alexander saw a weak creature still alive inside the egg. Unlike their adult forms, they were not frightening at all. At that moment, Alexander, disgusted, killed the baby creature he found inside the egg. After a few minutes he noticed that the ground was shaking as if there had been an earthquake.

"Is there an earthquake happening?" Alexander asked a nearby guard. But the guard, with dilated pupils, looked in the opposite direction with fear. Alexander, too, looked towards where the guard was looking, experiencing terror and helplessness at his core, along with his entire army. Dozens of creatures were rushing towards the Tamerid Empire's army at full speed. Anger and hatred emanated from the creatures' faces. As most of the creatures were on all fours and running as fast as they could, they reached the Tamerid army within minutes and began destroying the frontline soldiers.

As Alexander watched in horror at the creatures' attack, he knew he had to make immediate decisions. He quickly shouted to his soldiers, "Abandon defensive positions, fall back! Regroup and prepare a strategic withdrawal plan!" The soldiers began to retreat in haste, and Alexander rushed around the battlefield to maintain order.

During the retreat, Alexander made quick decisions to ensure his army reached a safe position. He needed to devise a plan to resist the creatures' attack. He gave orders to maintain communication networks and position themselves strategically.

Faced with the onslaught of the creatures, Alexander swiftly moved to understand his enemies and discover their weaknesses. Perhaps there was a controllable vulnerability among the creatures that he could exploit to turn the tide.

In the midst of battle, Alexander did his best to resist the creatures' attack. Leading his endangered soldiers was an extremely challenging task. Despite the creatures' assault, he remained calm and continued to make strategic moves. Slowly, they began to kill off the creatures, reducing their numbers, although the losses of the Tamerid army were significant.

Just as they started to gain the upper hand against the creatures, they saw cavalry units approaching from behind. Alpshar had ordered a cavalry charge. With the rapid arrival of the cavalry, many infantrymen began to fall. Despite Alexander's efforts to lead his army and bring them into a defensive position, he failed. Although the Tamerid soldiers managed to repel the creature attack, they had exhausted all their strength and energy.

Because of the incoming cavalry attack, their remaining strength dwindled, and they began to die one by one. Alexander helplessly watched the destruction of his army. After years of service, he earned a promotion to the rank of general of the southern army, and he excelled in his role during his tenure. In fact, the southern army had become the strongest army in the Tamerid Empire, all thanks to one man's tireless efforts. But now, he saw all his efforts crumble before him. The screams of the dying soldiers were so loud that they hurt the ears.
