What We Deserve
Henry paused for a moment when she asked if he was offering to come closer because of his duty as a knight or simply because he wanted to.
It did feel like he was guarding her because he was alert to every bit of movement in their vicinity. After the number of dangerous situations he had been in, it was something he did naturally.
However, he didn't think he would want to be that close to someone he was guarding.
"I can't turn off being a knight," he admitted quietly, "but I do want to come closer on my own."
There he was being bold again, he thought. He could feel his face become hot.
The princess contemplated telling him no but her first instinct was what she was taught and not what she wanted.
"Okay," she finally said.
