The air is as fresh and clean as it was on the first day of creation. The breeze is like the hand of God gently blowing over the golden wheat fields. On a cool autumn night, a red pickup truck is slowly driving on the road in the suburbs of Kansas. From the endless wheat fields on both sides of the road, there was the sound of insects praising life, and fireflies were dancing leisurely like stars. Overhead, the night sky was full of stars.
The melodious music from the car radio, the familiar scent of the fields mixed with the fresh smell of rain-soaked soil, filled the car. Jonathan Kent, a new father, stretched his hand out of the window, feeling the shape of the wind, and a happy smile appeared on his face.
"Jonathan, this is a gift from God to us," his wife Martha said. She had just left the hospital after giving birth, her face still slightly pale. But as she looked at the lovely and quiet baby in her arms, she couldn't contain the love and tenderness in her voice. "It wasn't long ago that I longed for a child, and now it feels like an angel has been born."
"A gift from God? My mother's name is Martha?" Baby David looked at his mother in disbelief, feeling a bit helpless. He had woken up to find himself transformed into a baby. In this new life, his mother was Martha and his father was Jonathan Kent. Not only that, he was born in a hospital called Metropolitan Hospital, which clearly indicated his arrival in the notoriously dark DC world as the son of Superman's adoptive parents.
"Of course, it's God's promise. He will grow up healthy and strong..." Jonathan began to say, but he was interrupted by a sudden rumble. A meteorite from a distant universe suddenly cut through the night sky, its red fiery light illuminating half of the sky. Large and small meteorites rained down, hitting the ground and causing earth and rocks to scatter. Some even flew towards the small town behind them.
One meteorite in particular, at the center of the group, fell like the finger of God, cutting across the road ahead and forming a fateful trench that blocked the couple's path. The smell of burning filled the air as the car skidded and barely managed to fall into the ditch.
Jonathan quickly turned back. "Martha, are you and the baby okay?"
"It's okay, Jonathan." Martha hit the brakes and immediately protected the baby with her body. The baby in her arms was unharmed.
"The son of Krypton has arrived on Earth with the meteorite as planned."
The earth trembled and roared. Despite the noise, the baby in Martha's arms remained calm and peaceful, his pink and fair skin shining brightly as he blinked his innocent eyes and observed the scene.
"Jonathan, look at our child. He isn't afraid at all," Martha said, her eyes lighting up in surprise. This child was truly a gift from God, displaying such unusual behavior.
David, too, felt no fear, only anticipation in his heart. "Detected the birth of the host and initiating the Thanos template," he recalled an emotionless electronic voice speaking in his ears when he was just born. After birth, David obtained the Thanos template, granting him a powerful Eternal physique. However, the fusion was initially only 30%, and he needed emotional points to accelerate the integration.
"Emotional points are accumulated and obtained by influencing the emotions of powerful or important characters in the DC world," he thought. He had already earned some emotional points by interacting with couples before. "But the arrival of the son of Krypton marks the beginning."And once the template reached 100% integration, the next template would be unlocked.
Through the car window, David's eyes lit up as he scanned the surroundings, searching for his gold mine. There can't be someone more popular and powerful than Superman in the DC world.
"What's that?" Jonathan heard his wife's voice and squinted his eyes, his attention drawn to a hard, dark blurred outline amidst the smoke.
"Martha, stay in the car with the baby and don't get out," he said, his voice serious and concerned about the potential danger. He stepped out of the car alone to assess the situation.
The sparks from the meteorites still burned on the ground, casting flickering light into the darkness. When Jonathan saw something in the smoke, his eyes widened, and he froze in place.
"Jonathan? What did you see?" Martha called out from inside the car. She got out with the baby in her arms, worriedly approaching him.
She, too, froze in surprise when she saw it. A dark spaceship, resembling a baby's cradle and made of unknown metal, lay quietly at the end of the deep ditch. Its transparent cabin door was open, revealing a cute baby with curly hair, blue eyes, and an energetic spirit. The baby sat inside, bouncing his legs and looking curiously at the couple, his innocent smile lighting up the scene.
"Martha, let's leave this place," Jonathan finally regained his senses. He hesitated, feeling a sense of urgency, and took his wife and children away.
Since ancient times, people have gazed up at the starry sky and wondered if humanity is alone in the universe. Now that question had been answered, and the aliens looked remarkably similar to humans.
"The authorities will be here soon. This matter must be kept tightly sealed, and we don't want to get involved in this trouble," Jonathan explained.
"Leave?" David was taken aback by this unexpected decision. After all, Superman's adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan, adopted him because Martha had desperately wanted a child. Now that the child was here, it was him.
"So... is Superman going to die?" David contemplated. Without this kind-hearted couple, what would become of Superman? Would he be taken away by the military and turned into a scrawny experimental Superman, deprived of sunlight for over a decade, as depicted in a comic book version?
"No, that's not possible. Not to mention how many times the grown-up Superman has saved the world from destruction. Where else could I find such a gold mine?" David thought. "No, maybe God is very kind to us, Jonathan."
Martha, observing her child in the spaceship, felt a strong impulse filling her mind. She instinctively hesitated to leave the child behind, unable to bear the thought of abandoning him to a cold laboratory, deprived of parental care, toys, and love, subjected to constant sampling experiments.
"Stop talking, Martha," Jonathan said, covering his forehead with a hint of a headache. He was torn between his own kindness and the practical concerns. "Yah..."
Just as he was wavering, David stretched out his short, chubby white arm from Martha's embrace, waving at the son of Krypton in the swaddle. He babbled and smiled, displaying his fondness for him.
"See, Jonathan," Martha's eyes lit up, and her tone became pleasantly surprised. She had found another compelling argument to convince her husband. "Our child seems to like him very much and is asking us to adopt him."
"Two votes to one vote," Jonathan struggled for a moment, pretending helplessness, and then raised his hand. "Well, what else can I say? What?"
He tenderly kissed his wife, looked at his lovely and lively son, and then at the lonely baby in the space capsule. With a sigh, he said, "Two children... the farm will be busy in the coming years."
