"So, One-night stand Queen, which hotel did you visit yesterday?" Kimberly teased Journee.
"Nice way to greet your boss, Kimberly," taunted Journee and stare directly into her soul. Kimberly immediately lowered her eyes and moved away from her.
Journee walked up to her seat when a lean, muscular man with glasses came running to her.
"He is looking for you," he informed.
Slowly, Journee lifted her head and looked into his eyes, "and good morning to you too, Henry."
"Sorry, right, good morning," Henry replied, impatiently.
"Any idea why?" she asked.
"Your last night excursion. He wants to know if you made any progress," he informed.
"Okay, I will go see him. Meanwhile, where is that moron?" asked Journee.
"He had a court date," replied Henry.
"Oh, the dandelion case," chimed Journee.
"Yes."
"Okay." She lowered her head and switched on the computer but Henry was still standing at her table. She again looked at him and asked, "what?"
"He wants to see you urgently," he emphasized.
"I will see him after I get my system up and running," answered Journee.
"Boss," he slapped her desk making getting her full attention. "You will make him scream at me."
"You coward," teased Journee. "Fine, I will see him." She stood up as soon as she completed her sentence and hit him over his head. She walked over to the corner of the floor, where in a big glass box was sitting a middle-aged man looking at files and glancing over his computer. She tapped the glass that had the words "CAPTAIN" on it with her finger and the man lifted his head and looked at her. He signalled her to get in.
The moment she entered he looked at the blinds. She understood and walked all around the room closing the blinds. After completing her task, she sat in front of him with a straight back. The nameplate before her was a granite plank with the words carved in it "Graham Swell, Captain, 15th Precinct, NYPD."
"Good morning, Sir," she greeted him.
"Good morning, is the surveillance up and running?" he inquired without even looking at her. He was busy with his files.
"There was a problem last night," she replied but there was no hesitation from her end. She was as always, confident.
He lifted his head and looked at her. He put the files down and gave Journee his full attention. "what happened? Are you alright?"
"Sir! I am fine. It's just about the surveillance," replied Journee.
"What about it?" asked Captain Graham.
"His new bodyguard keeps creating problems for us," Journee shook her head in disappointment.
"Yeah, I know after he got the job, surveilling Zion has been a problem. Moreover, we have not yet been able to find who attacked the Hall family that day," said Captain Graham, disappointed.
"Give me that file and I will try to solve it," replied Journee with gusto.
"Kimberly is looking after that. You already have so much on your plate. The criminal Enterprise Department keeps you so busy," said Captain Graham.
"It's nothing, Sir."
"Anyway, what did his bodyguard do now?" questioned Captain Graham.
"He now travels with a magical wand," replied Journee, exhaling loudly.
"Excuse me!" Captain Graham was confused.
"A wand to find hidden spyware," explained Journee with a mischievous smile.
"Oh, that. Oh no! they found our cameras," suddenly Captain Graham understood everything.
She stood up and emptied her pocket in front of Graham. "No. they all are here, except one," she smiled and winked.
"What do you mean?" asked Captain Graham.
"He found every camera except the one I hid in the mattress. We won't be able to see anything but might be able to listen," educated Journee.
"If he had all the other cameras, how did you get them back?" queried Captain Graham.
"I picked his pocket," she grinned.
"If you would not have been a cop you would have made a great criminal," observed Captain Graham and smiled at her.
"Aww… thank you. That's the best compliment anyone ever gave me," she teased him.
"Shut up and go back to work," he too could not stop smiling. "Tell IT to start listening in on our spy device and get a regular update. I will in turn update the CED."
But Journee was not ready to leave. "Could you tell me what Kimberly has found regarding the attempted assassination of Zion?"
"She is talking to the witnesses, gathering evidence. Even though the whole arena was ridden with bullet holes, she could not find a single bullet or even a bullet shell. She has tried talking to Zion and other members but they insist that no one was hurt or died. Though eyewitnesses say that Zion's family doctor was called to his mansion the night the shooting took place," informed Captain Graham.
"But witnesses tell us that there was a roar of guns in that area. How is it possible that there was not a single bullet?" Journee was confused.
"That is what we are shocked about too. Doughnut and his team were found unconscious in a nearby hospital but doctors deny about any bullet in anyone of them," advised Captain Graham.
"Which means some powerful party is in the town," suggested Journee.
"That is what I fear exactly," said Captain Graham.
"Which means bloodbath. We have to be vigilant," replied Journee.
"Did you see the bodyguard's face this time?" asked Captain Graham.
"No, he always keeps his mask on. Either his face is mangled or he is adamant to hide his identity," replied Journee.
"Right!"
"Tell Kimberly, if she needs help she can come to me," said Journee.
"You are her boss, you can tell her too," taunted Captain Graham.
"Really!" said Journee, sarcastically.
"Oh yeah, she hates your guts," teased Captain Graham and started laughing.
"Right on!"
"Well, you were her colleague and then you became her boss," said Captain Graham.
"It's not my fault that I passed all the exams on my first attempt," replied Journee with a little smugness.
"She thinks your father helped you," said Captain Graham.
"Everyone thinks that," Journee spoke.
"I love how nothing fazes you."
"Well, somethings do," mumbled Journee.
"What?" asked Captain Graham as he didn't hear what she said.
"Nothing. I will leave you to your work and return to mine," said Journee.
"Okay."
She smiled at him, stood up from her seat, opened the blinds, and exited the cabin. She came back to her seat and started her system. The seat in front of her was still empty. As Henry informed her Jack had to go to court.
She checked her e-mails first and replied to every single one of them. Then she picked up her phone and dialled the IT department. Within one ring, her call was picked up.
Without greeting or wasting any time, she chimed in, "Stephen! I have planted the camera in the room. He usually visits the room at night, so start listening in on his every word."
"Camera? Why not cameras?" Stephen was shocked and confused. He gave her cameras, then why did she say camera?
"You gave me detectable cameras. Every single camera was discovered, you idiot," scolded Journee.
"I am sorry but those are the only cameras the department has," apologized Stephen.
"Can't you get an advanced one?" suggested Journee.
"Get me the budget and I will give you those," taunted Stephen.
"Ohhh… trying to be over-smart. Do I need to come down there?" Journee scared him.
"No, sorry, I will start the surveillance tonight," he replied, instantly.
"Keep updating me," growled Journee.
"Yes, ma'am."
Journee disconnected the call and started working on her paperwork. She had to look after every report her subordinates filed. Hour after hour of signing paperwork. Finally, Jack came back. The beautiful, young man with large muscles sat with a thud on his chair making his chair move an inch back.
"Argh…" he groaned loudly and let his head fall backwards.
"What?" Journee looked at him and asked.
"Court dates are so boring," pouted Jack.
"Oh really! I never knew," mocked Journee.
"Sarcasm?"
"What do you think?" Journee raised one of her eyebrows and looked at him, annoyed.
"Right! How was your night?" he tried to change the subject as he could tell she was getting irritated. Everyone was scared of her.
"Eventful," she replied.
"Tell me more, tell me more," he said, excited.
"Surveillance is up and running," answered Journee.
"That is my boss." He stood up from his seat and shouted at the whole bullpen.
She shook her in disbelief. "Shut up and sit down."
"Sorry!" and he sat down.
"So, what was the verdict?" asked Journee about his case.
"Jury is still out. Once they come out, I will be informed," replied Jack.
"Hmm…"
After the conversation, they both returned back to their work.
Meanwhile, Harris and Noelle were working diligently to obey Archer's command.
On one hand, Harris was trying to find the address Archer gave him. Every time he would put the sticky note in his pocket that would stick in his pocket lining, he would panic that he lost the piece of paper. Finally, he found the building and sighed with relief.
The building had no lift, so he had to climb all the way up to the 12th floor. Huffing and puffing he went to apartment 18 and knocked at the door. He was ready to show Archer that he was ready, he wanted the girl to open the door and he would take her to meet with Archer.
