Chapter 15

Thor POV

I heard Ragnar's explaining plan Rollo "We can't afford to lose half our men by being stupid by attacking we wait until the odds are in our favor."Rollo who heard this turned and walked away while I was next to Ragnar said "You know your brother is going to cause real problems in the future if he doesn't control his emotions."Ragnar looked at me and replied, "He will get over he always does."

I shook my head and thought "Yeah he betrays you more times than I can count he is too easily manipulated."

Ragnar's plan is to attack the enemy camp at night it was a good strategy with the enemy will be completely taken by surprise I had no problems with it soon we made our way into the enemy camp which was really unprotected no guards or sentries to alert if an enemy attacked they are really underestimating the Vikings. The Northumbria soldiers were like lambs to slaughter only some of them were ready to attack us also it was too quick for any of them could react and those sleeping in tents only knew someone was attacking them when one of them saw the fire started by the Vikings.

I was just watching the whole slaughter without interest while some soldiers came towards with full intent to attack so I let them a painful death I first saw a spear next to which I threw at one of the soldiers killing him instantly and the others seeing this become wary and tried to overpower me with numbers but I dodged incoming attacks or I used my shield to stop or deflect their attacks while either bashing them with the shield then using consecutive sword strikes to deal the finish them off.

Sig was lazily swinging sword killing one soldier after another I mumbled looking at the corpses "That was disappointing."

I saw all of the soldiers had been either killed or captured but what I found most funny was Aethelwulf while all his men were getting slaughtered he was praying I thought "I understand praying is important but god won't punish you just because you stopped praying to stop your soldiers from getting slaughtered."He tried to attack Floki who just cut of his tent which resulted in getting caught in the tent.

I shook my head and muttered "Idiot."While we started to round up walked towards all the captured soldier with others were rounding up the loot I saw Athelwuld who looked resigned to his fate as I questioned: "Your not someone ordinary are you."

Athelwulf looked at me and answered, "I am Lord Athelwulf brother of King Alle."Ragnar who heard this asked with slight curiosity "You are the brother of the king, yet you lead his army?"Ragnar decided to taunt him "Does he send you to fight all his battles in the bedroom too."

Ragnar was called over while I looked at Athelwulf with pity and asked "Your brother used you as a pawn to test out how strong we are."The Athelwulf glared at me and replied "No he didn't."I looked at him in the eye and questioned, "Your brother only gave you this small amount of soldiers even though he knows these savages as he called us took down Lord wiggea's whole force with only a small number of men either he is a fool who underestimated us or he just saw you as a pawn."

Athelwulf didn't how I knew about Lord wiggea but the thing the bugged him was that did his brother really use him as a pawn no matter how much he tried to deny it knew their some truth in what I said but he just couldn't believe that his brother would just betray him as I sadly asked "Athelwulf just wait and see when we ask ransom in return for your safe return your brother will deny it in his eyes you lost to the savages so you lost your value."

I shook my head and let the seeds of doubt I planted in his mind grow what better way to take down King Aelle by using his own brother who he treated no better than a pawn.I knew what was going to happen either I change Athelwulf's fate by letting him live or just let him be killed like the normal timeline.
