The Real Reason For The Breakup

"What reason do you think I can accept?" Shen Lin said in a low voice. He went to the kitchen to get a cup of pear soup and handed it to Zhou Xia. "Can you actually tell me now why you broke up with me in the first place?"

"You still mind this." This time, Zhou Xia said it in a straightforward manner. She took the cup from Shen Lin's hand. The hot temperature instantly burned her hand. She quickly put the cup on the table and rubbed her earlobe to cool it down. She said, "I'm scalded to death! I'm scalded to death!"

Shen Lin was watching the show from the side. He seemed to have expected this.

Zhou Xia felt wronged. She glared at Shen Lin and said, "It has been so many years. Why do you hold a grudge?" 

Shen Lin responded, "If you know I'm vengeful, then why did you say such harsh words to anger me?" 

Zhou Xia apologized and asked, "Weren't you already aware that it's just trash talk?"

Once again, Shen Lin questioned, "What is the real reason then?" 

Zhou Xia then confirmed, "Do you really want to get to the bottom of this?" 

"Yes," Shen Lin replied.

"Why?" 

"I don't understand. I wanted to ask you back then. Why?" 

Zhou Xia looked at him with a half-smile. "Do you still like me? Can't you control your feelings and forget me?"

Shen Lin looked at her coldly. "The relationship we have now has nothing to do with the confusion I had in the past. I just don't like being discarded." 

Zhou Xia could not laugh anymore. Shen Lin had already made himself clear. She had broken up with him and hurt his pride. It had nothing to do with whether Shen Lin liked her or not.

Zhou Xia searched for the memory of that time in her mind seriously even though it had become a little blurry due to the passage of time. 

"I really forgot. I think it was because the college entrance examination was around the corner, and I was afraid that being in a relationship would affect my studies. At that time, our teachers and parents insisted that the college entrance examination was the turning point of life. Who would dare to be absent-minded at such a time?"

"In the first three mock exams, your results were much higher, and you've been improving. We were together. I hope it didn't affect your studies." Shen Lin's tone turned colder. 

"Can't you just tell me the truth? What's the reason?"

"I've already said that I've really forgotten about it. That was so long ago." But then again, how could Zhou Xia forget? She just didn't want to tell Shen Lin.

When Zhou Xia saw Shen Lin's expression, she decided to tease him. "Hey, did you like me too much back then? Is that why you're still holding a grudge against me?"

Shen Lin glanced at her. The coldness in his eyes was obvious. "What about you? Have you never liked me?"

Zhou Xia immediately put away her teasing expression and did not dare to speak again. It was because Shen Lin had hit the nail on the head. 

Shen Lin almost uncovered her secret. If he did, it wouldn't be a secret anymore. The way she casually treated relationships now shouldn't be looked at. It was either there was one or there wasn't. But these relationships didn't matter much. 

Zhou Xia was not like this when she was in a relationship with Shen Lin. At that time, she could only think of him. In the beginning, she did have an ulterior motive in pursuing him. However, she truly lost her heart to him in the end. 

How could she not like Shen Lin? He was so outstanding, and he liked her so much. It was just that Zhou Xia was young and insensible at that time. All she could think about was revenge, so she did not dare and was unwilling to admit that she liked him. 

Even so, Shen Lin was the other party involved. It was impossible for him not to know. They were in a relationship. How could Shen Lin not know if Zhou Xia was treating him sincerely?

"That was in the past. I don't feel it anymore." Zhou Xia answered. 

"Is it because you like someone else?" 

Zhou Xia glared at Shen Lin. 

"What are you thinking? How many relationships have you been in?" Shen Lin asked coldly. 

"Do you want to add some more? You can't include me?" Shen Lin asked in a low voice.

"It'll be four if you are included." Zhou Xia told him the truth. Shen Lin's face was so dark. It was as if someone owed him millions of yuan. 

"You're the one who insisted on asking me," Zhou Xia reminded him in a low voice. 

Shen Lin glared at her coldly. Then, he turned around and went to the living room.

Zhou Xia noticed the tension in his voice and felt unhappy too. She followed him. "Why are you angry? I can't even date after we've broken up? How can you be so overbearing? Besides, I don't believe that you haven't been in a relationship after we broke up." 

Shen Lin suddenly stopped. He turned around and looked at Zhou Xia. "I haven't."
