Mingli.

Late at night, the doctor came out of the surgery room with a sullen expression, looking around the waiting room. "Where are her relatives?"

Liu Zhiqiang and his mother rushed to meet the doctor with anxious faces. "We are here. Is she going to be okay?"

"Yes, she barely survived the fall and is still unconscious. Also, one of her legs were badly crushed so it was impossible for us to fix it completely. She will be disabled for the rest of her life." Liu Zhiqiang's mother gasped in sorrow.

"What about the baby?" Liu Zhiqiang asked the question that had made him very agitated since he heard the news about the fall.

The doctor sighed wearily. "I am very sorry, the baby didn't make it."

Wang Hong watched his father go in shock and his grandmother break down in tears. It was as if the world had come to an end, everyone was carrying heartbroken expressions.

Though he was still young, he understood that they were very sad over his baby brother's death. He wanted to comfort them and say that he was still here so there was no need to be worried. All they had to do was to wait for another one to arrive just from the heavenly factory like the big doctor explained, but something caught his attention, something that forever changed his life.

A small boy sat on a chair opposite his wailing family members in a white t shirt and jeans. He was so handsome, just like a little angel watching over the mortals. Wang Hong was so entranced by his appearance that he suddenly lifted his hand and said. "Wow, you are so handsome.."

His father and grandmother stopped talking to the doctor, surprised by the sudden interruption. The old woman looked down on her grandson in disdain.

What a disgrace, she thought. All he inherited was their good physical features and none of their intellect. He was such a dumb boy, always murmuring and scratching like a crazy person. She scowled, whispering to her son. "He has started again. Take him away from here."

Liu Zhiqiang grabbed his son expressionlessly, ignoring his pained expression as he dragged him to the car and flung him on the car seat. Wang Yong winced in pain, holding his bleeding nose wondering why his father was behaving so badly to him. He decided to stay quiet because he observed his father's deadly calm expression.

His father took him to the empty house and locked him in his room saying. "I am going to the hospital, so stay here until I return."

Wang Yong who was scared of being alone protested. "I don't want to be alone. Please don't leave me here, Father. I promise to behave properly, just-"

"-Shut up! Don't make me repeat myself! You good for nothing, just stay here quietly!" Liu Zhiqiang raged, storming out of the mansion.

Wang Yong was frightened into silence, fat teardrops rolling down his puffy cheeks. He hugged his knees, quavering as he looked around his room. Though the lights were on and his room was lavishly decorated, he always felt like shadows were following him and he couldn't stand the voices that always said bad things about him.

He was about to bury himself under the blankets when he screamed all of a sudden. The boy in white was sitting on his bed, looking at the stars through the window opposite them. He was so scared he moved backwards until he hit the headboard, neglecting the pain that almost left him breathless.

However, the boy in white turned slowly looking at him in concern. He moved closer. "Da-ge, are you okay?"

Wang Hong was stunned, failing to process what the boy was saying. He looked around the room in shock before responding. "How did you get here?"

"I came through the door." The boy in white had a calm and angelic appearance with an ethereal voice reverberating across the room. "Don't be scared. I won't harm you."

"Who are you?" Wang Yong cautiously held his pillow in defense, feeling a familiar sensation in his body. He started scratching his neck, scraping a little flesh.

The boy in white gripped his wandering hand and wrapped it in his own. Wang Yong kept bending and twisting his neck from side to side, barely hearing his voice. "My name is Mingli."

Wang Yong froze, smiling brightly at the boy. He felt better when he held his hand so he gripped his hand a little tighter. "That is nice, my little brother's name was also supposed to be Mingli. Where is your daddy and mommy?"

"They are somewhere in the city but I don't want to talk about them. How about we play a game instead?" The white boy brought some toy cars and placed them on the bed.

Wang Hong nodded his head happily like a puppy. "Okay, lets play."

The two boys played through the night, with the toys and then with the pillows all over the room. Wang Yong felt like he was in paradise where all his wishes had come through. When it was midnight, Mingli suddenly said. " Alright, that is enough for today. Da-ge, you should go to bed, its already late."

Wang Yong shook his head, elated. "No, let's continue." He was having so much fun that he didn't wish for the night to end.

Mingli persisted. "Da-ge, I am serious! You have to go to bed. If Fath-" The boy exhaled wearily. "If your daddy catches you, he will get mad at you again."

Wang Yong instantly frowned when he was reminded of his father and his recent behaviour. He lowered his head in despair, some voices in his head started talking making him scared again.

Mingli grabbed his hand and smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry, I will come back tomorrow." He held his little finger in the air, curving it a little. "Pinky promise!"

Wang Hong hooked the little finger with his own, his two little dimples showing with his eyes sparkling. "We have a deal!"
