I Have A Roommate?

My roommate almost never stayed in our room. In a week, the times she slept here are around two to three nights only. However, I never felt lonely. Boarders in other rooms chat with me in the dining area. And I'm busy with schoolwork and activities that I barely realized the passage of time. One day, I realized something. The room I'm staying in only has one bed. Where did I get a roommate again?

A Roommate Moved In

After talking with her Pa, Mira proceeded with what's she's been doing before; checking her schedules.

As a hard-working student, Mira is a stable person who never strays from her goals.

Every single minute is accounted for, like a disciplined soldier.

As soon as she put down her notebook to review from her books, a knock echoed throughout the room.

Mira looked at the door for a few seconds before entertaining the idea of someone knocking in her door. Or was it someone knocking other people's door?

Mira's thoughts got broken when another knocked sounded. It was clearly her door, so without hesitation, she got up and opened the door for a tiny bit.

She saw a girl a few centimeters shorter than her holding a suitcase and a few bags on the ground.

When the girl noticed that she opened the door, she smiled and introduced herself.

"Hi! Are you Mira? I'm Raja, the roommate assigned for Room #6," Raja introduced.

Feeling dazed at the sudden arrival of a roommate, Mira collected her thoughts before sizing up the girl.

Seemingly noticing her intentions, the girl politely said:

"I'm only staying here for a few days a week, but I'll still be paying half of the room's expenses. You can have the room for yourself when I'm not here, don't worry," Raja assured.

Feeling that something is wrong but can't point it out, Mira blinked a few times.

When she realized that she did not invite Raja in and just stood at the door, she felt that she had been rude to her new roommate.

"Get in, get in. Make yourself at home," Mira opened the door wide and even helped Raja bring her stuff in the room.

Room #6 is quite spacious, and even with the baggage of two people, it did not feel cramped at all.

After the initial pleasantries, the two became silent.

Finding that Raja is now adjusting to the room, Mira silently opened a book to immerse herself in the sea of learning.

She did not even notice Raja's eyes turning red as she glanced at the scholar immersing herself in her studies. A smirk appeared in this new roommate's face but soon disappeared without a trace.

Settling down, the atmosphere in the room became more subtle, like a calm before the storm.

Mira went to bed early that day, not even noticing the silent Raja as she turned the lights off.

She went to dreamland as soon as she sunk into her bed.

It was already morning when Mira woke up.

Yawning, she went downstairs to cook breakfast and prepare herself for school.

"Ate* Mira? You have class in the morning?" A mellow voice sounded behind Mira as she fried dome eggs. It was her schoolmate from Room #11 and came from the same province as her.

*Ate, pronounced as ah-te, is a term for older sister, specifically if the speaker is a few years younger than a female. Directly calling someone's name is disrespectful, especially for older ones, thus, using this term is a sign of respect or closeness.

"Yup, first sub is Ethics. You also have class, right? Even earlier than our class with Sir Ryan," Mira commented as she transferred the fried egg to a plate.

"Ugh, please don't remind me. Going to his class is a chore. Why does he give away so much work? I can't even learn anything proper," Claire complained as she held a mug of coffee and sipped a bit from it.

"Anyway, have you found an interviewee for activity 11, ate?" Claire inquired.

"I found one when I asked my former high school teacher. It's a foreigner, and they approved," Mira smirked as she sat down in the boarding house's dining area with a plate of eggs, rice, tomato ketchup and a cup of coffee.

Claire immediately became energetic once she heard this news.

"Ate, ate, can we also interview that person? Our group's personal connections are really poor, and we can't find the right person to interview. Ate, please take pity on us," Mira chuckled a little at Claire selling cuteness.

"I'll ask. But don't put all your hopes in this. I'm not even sure if they'll agree to a second interview," Mira resisted the urge to pet Claire's hair as she started her breakfast.

Claire cheered in the background and went to make her own breakfast, leaving Mira silently eating.

After a few minutes, Mira finished breakfast in record time and proceeded to prepare herself for school.

With mechanical movements, the girl in the mirror finally became presentable to go to school.

Mira hummed as she went back to her room to get her bag when she bumped into Raja on the hallway.

"I won't be coming back for a few days," Raja informed as she carried a big bag with her.

If Raja did not brush up her presence in front of Mira, she would have forgotten that she got this new roommate last night.

"Alright. I'll keep the room neat and tidy," Mira assured.

She no longer owns the room by herself, so she has to be a conscientious roommate and keep it clean, lest she annoy this roommate.

"It's fine," Raja left immediately after that, as if someone's chasing her.

Mira just shook her head and did not think much.

School proceeded as usual.

Mira repeated her daily cycles and forgot about the existence of Raja.

A few nights went like this when Raja returned suddenly on Sunday night.
