26 The Lily Room

Upon entering the room, numerous questions popped into Camille's mind but she was bound to be left curious as her newfound elder brother had no intention of answering them for her.

Instead, he brought her in and pointed at the wardrobe built into a certain wall in this room.

"Get changed and rest well," Christopher advised before gently patting her head.

Once he had finished speaking, he turned around and headed outside, leaving the young woman alone in this large and unfamiliar room.

Camille was still confused, wondering why she was brought to this place but had no way of alleviating her curiosity as there was no one here to help her grasp this situation.

Therefore, letting out a soft sigh, she stepped toward the wardrobe that had been pointed at a moment ago.

This room certainly wasn't hers but to her surprise, she found the original Camille's clothes arranged neatly inside this spacious wardrobe.

If that wasn't all, when she peeked into the bathroom connected to this room, she found a fresh set of toiletries ready for her to use.

This made her wonder if the servants she had seen rushing around earlier had been preparing everything that she might be needing later on.

This speculation made sense to Camille who lacked nothing right now as everything she could need was already within her reach.

Therefore, all she needed to do was make use of the items prepared for her and in no time, she was ready for bed.

Though a faint scent of disinfectant still lingered on the clothes she had worn tonight thanks to her short stay at the hospital, she barely had the strength to move so she gave up on the idea of taking a shower before bed.

Feeling fatigued and lazy, she simply climbed into bed once she had changed into a set of comfortable nightwear she found in the wardrobe.

In the past, Camille always needed time to adjust to new surroundings and hence would find it difficult to fall asleep whenever she traveled to new places.

Though she was now in a different body, she believed that this habit of hers had followed her here as well.

Therefore, she was doubtful about getting a good night's rest considering how she had not just moved to a new place but a whole different world altogether.

However, she had underestimated the massive amounts of stress this body had undergone in the last many hours.

From a fatal allergic reaction that weakened it immensely, to actually losing its life source, and finally having a foreign soul assimilate into it.

This body had gone through a lot and thus only a few minutes after she had laid her head on the pillow, she was lulled to sleep and was soon floating in the realm of dreams without a care.

___

On a floor above the Lily Room where Camille's steady breathing could be heard, a certain room was shrouded in darkness with a grim and dismal atmosphere currently evident within it.

Christopher Lin sat with his back straight as he stared at the faint silhouette of the table before him.

Unlike Camille whose eyes were a deep shade of violet, this young man possessed a pair of fierce eyes that leaned more towards burgundy as hues of red were rather prominent in them.

Right now, those very eyes reflected the meager light that was seeping into the dark room through the gap beneath the shut door.

After sending his sister into the Lily Room, Christopher headed upstairs but did not return to his room in this mansion.

Though the siblings had moved out of their ancestral home years ago and found accommodation close to their individual workplaces, their rooms here had been well-maintained at all times.

However, he chose to head over to a different place rather than retreating to his bedroom on the second floor.

He had a lot on his mind and hence had decided to move to the room he was in right now as this was where he spent most of his time when he stayed over at their family's ancestral home.

While he was lost in his deep and menacing thoughts, a series of knocks sounding on the door grabbed his attention.

It was well past midnight so not many servants would be in the mansion at this time.

Not to mention that even if they were around, entry to the upper floors of the mansion was forbidden and no one was allowed to head upstairs without gaining permission first.

However, there was an exception to this rule which helped Christopher deduce who could be outside right now.

"Come in." He uttered in a low voice and soon the door was pushed open, revealing the face that had come to his mind a moment earlier.

"Young Master…" The butler who appeared to be in his late fifties hesitated after he had walked into the room.

This room on the first floor was the office of the Lin family, the ownership of which had been passed down from generation to generation to the one who headed their family's business.

Right now, this young man seated behind a large wooden desk was the head of the family's business, overseeing it, and hence was the rightful owner of this office space along with everything inside it.

Christopher Lin was not only leading their business but was also the next in line to be the head of the family itself.

Therefore, the butler who had been serving the Lin family for decades was very respectful toward him despite being much older.

"What is it, Uncle Quan?" Christopher questioned as he assessed the curiosity and caution written all over the face of the old man standing before him.

He wasn't surprised to find him here as he had already expected that they would be having this conversation sooner or later but it seemed that the butler was far too anxious and had come seeking him right away.

For the next few seconds, the old man was contemplating how to place his doubts before the young master.

However, knowing this young master's impatient personality, he knew that he could not waste too much of his time.

"Is the Young Miss…" He began with notes of hesitancy and caution evident in his voice.

Yet he wasn't able to complete his query as he could not help but take another pause to carefully observe the look on the youngster's face.

Earlier tonight, soon after the Miss was sent to the hospital, the driver had called to inform him about it which caused the butler to be scared out of his wits when he heard further details about how the Miss found herself in such a state.

He knew all too well about her life-threatening allergy and thus was worried for her sake all through the night.

Thankfully, close to midnight, he had received a call from the Young Master, who revealed that the Miss was fine now and would be returning home.

He was also instructed to prepare a few light and healthy dishes for her.

Learning that they would be returning to the ancestral home calmed his old heart and he had gotten right to work, summoning a group of servants to prepare their rooms.

Most of the servants had returned to their lodging but those whom he had summoned were competent enough to complete these tasks without additional assistance.

However, after the Young Master returned home with the Miss, there seemed to be a change in their plans.

Instead of moving her upstairs, to the second floor, where their rooms were adjacent to each other, the butler was instructed to open and prepare the Lily Room for her.

The room which had been left vacant for the last few decades had been opened once again and, of all people, it was for the Young Miss.

Since the Lily Room had been locked for so long, not many were aware of its purpose or the meaning it held but the butler was sure that the Young Master was taught about it when he was younger.

Therefore, the Miss being sent to this room was not by accident nor had it been done absentmindedly.

The heavy implication behind this order had startled the Butler who had now come in search of clarification.

Upon arriving here, Butler Quan was too apprehensive about the conclusion his mind had reached and thus had paused his query midway.

However, it seemed that his incomplete question had been comprehended by the Young Master who was now looking right at him with a grim look on his face.

"Yes… Yes, she is." Christopher slowly replied, not letting his emotions fluctuate in the least bit.

These words of affirmation caused the old man to widen his eyes for a brief moment before he regained his composure.

Bearing the title of the Lin family's butler came with many responsibilities and one such was to be able to maintain composure at all times.

Therefore, the old man was quick to come back to his senses before another question popped into his mind.

"The father…?" He mumbled his next query but stopped midway when he noticed the Young Master's eyes glinting dangerously, realizing that it would not be appropriate to keep talking any further.
