The tension that had been strung tight finally snapped with an audible twang as the mercenary collapsed lifelessly. Exhausted, I fell to my knees, sitting down on the spot. The intense pain in my right arm was bearable, but it was far from pleasant. Upon closer inspection, I realized that my tendrils were torn and on the verge of disintegration. My muscles were fraying like shredded cheese, as if someone was carelessly tearing apart my body. Fear welled up inside me as I recognized that my body was falling apart. Up until now, I had been teetering between life and death, masking the pain with adrenaline, but as my awareness returned, I realized just how much my body had been screaming in agony.
