Her way at work

Maya was riding with her bike in high speed to get to work on time.

A lot of obstacles in the way, cars, trucks, bus and other bikes. I pressed hard on the accelerator and reved my bike as I took in more speed, going zigzag and dodging every vehicle on the busy road.

My doctor's coat flying and flapping, holding onto it's dear life through the faceslapping wind. It was all quick and fast until the trafic lights turned red. I held onto the breaks as hard as I can and come to an hard jerk but safe hault, waiting at the front of the line as others stare at me, thinking if I was dumb or crazy to go this fast.

Letting go off the bike handles and stretched my hands and my back a bit due to overstressing certain muscle points which would cause a minor muscle fatigue. Sitting straight as I stare at the watch on my wrist, sighing softly. And maybe after a minute, the trafic light turns green. I'd lift my head up to see the light green and then I grabbed the bike handle and rev it as I take off in speed again, zigzag motion as I dodge every single vehicle on the road like a skilled rider.

This continued for about a few minutes until the destination was close and successfully reached. Parking my bike at the corner and only for staffs area.

Taking off my helmet, and hanging it on one of the bike handles as I get off, grabbing my handbag, walking my way towards the entrance of the hospital only for people with mental issues.

I walked in, looking around and greeted all the nurses, wiaters, janitors and, patients and their guardians as I made my way to the main counter and signed or stamped myself in the attendance book.

My hair a little shabby but still looked awfully good. Stepping towards the water dispenser at the very left corner of the room and grab the cup, pouring in water as I chugged it, feeling the water give life to get food and wind pipe.

After keeping the cup back on the top of the dispenser, and make my way to my office, opening the door and stepping in with my right foot, showing respect. Sitting on my chair as I place everything ready, putting my handbag aside and taking soft breaths.

There were so many files on Maya's table, it was different and new patients appointment and so on.

There was a small bell beside me. I pressed the bell and rang it twice. And before I knew it, one of the nurses came in and greeted me. And of course, I greeted back.

"Ah, sorry for being a bit late...would you mind calling in-- The first patient? The name's Phoebe." I'd say, requesting the nurse to bring in a patient.

The nurse nodded and left right away, calling the patient and he left again soon after noticing that I've already welcomed them.

"Take a seat..." I say softly, grabbing that patients file and grabbing a pen as well, staring at the patient and her fellow guardian as they take a seat across from me.

"What must be the issue?" I question the patient's guardian as I raised an eyebrow, getting my pen ready to list down the issues and meds for it.

The patient's guardian answered my question with, "Doctor...I really don't know but since me and my husband had a small physical fight, Phoebe has been not herself lately...she's been banging her head on the wall like a crazy person...and I'm worried!"

I frown a bit after hearing that as I look at Phoebe and sighed, seeing a big bruised lump on her head.

"Is that the cause of her head injury?" I questioned as I glared back at Phoebe's guardian. She nodded in fear and panic.

I took a deep breath as I look at Phoebe and smiled softly, Maya's soft smile was hypnotic. It would let anyone fall for her words.

"Phoebe dear...would you mind taking a step closer to me...?" I say softly as kept the soft smile on my face.

Phoebe didn't say a word and hesitated for an hot minute.

"Come on...I don't bite!" I chuckle softly as I pull out the Snickers I had in my hand which was actually my breakfast. Slowly wiggling it towards her and call her again.

"Here...I got chocolate for ya! I know you like them!"

Phoebe's eyes sparkled a bit as she grew a wide smile and she jumped out of the chair and rushed her way towards me. I slowly pick her up and place her on my lap as I hand her the Snickers bar. Phoebe was happy as she giggled and held the Snickers on her right hand and looked up at me and then her mother as she waved the bar at her.

The mother was shocked to see the sudden change in Phoebe's action.

"H..How? How do you make her this calm?! I tried everything, I even had a tough time getting her here..." Said the mother, Phoebe's guardian.

"Well..the thing that affected her this bad was the violent interactions between you and your husband...try not to fight in front of your kids...it can cause them to grow a bit nervous or maybe even hit them with a wave of depression." I answered her questions while I covered Phoebe's ears when she nibbled on the Snickers bar.

"It's not and never safe for the child's brain to handle negativity. Other than that, she has no problem...all you got to do is both you and your husband to spend equal quality time with her." I say, advising her in what to do and what not to do.

The mother took a deep breath and frowned a bit as she nodded a bit and smiled softly.

"Ah...I see. I'll keep that in mind. Thank you so much for your time." She said as she looked at Phoebe and then stood up as she nodded.

I nod as well as a sign of kindness, respect and relief that the mother had heard my words, slowly taking Phoebe off my lap as I placed her on her feet and shooing her towards her mother.

Phoebe was still nibbling on the chocolate bar as she wrapped her little arms around her mother's hand and slowly they both left the room. Slowly putting Phoebe's file away as I smile softly and then ring the bell again for the next patient.

I looked through the file and waited for the next patient to walk in.

After a few hours passed by, I looked after about 5 to 10 patients and advised their guardians so on. Now, the place was silent and no more patients were present. I would check my watch to see it was a few seconds passed my break time. Standing up, I grabbed my phone and exit my office, telling one of the nurses that I'm closed now and will be leaving later after my lunch because my shift was over. After doing so, I make my way to the cafeteria and grab a lunch meal, making my way to one of the clean benches and starts to eat. I was eating with aggression and hunger as I didn't have my breakfast in the morning and that Snickers bar was my only breakfast but I had to use it to get that child to come close to me. But now, I was eating like a homeless person. The hunger killing me.
