'Gosh, why the hell am I like this? Ever since I met him, I feel like I'm acting petty, more than before. Just because of him, I said that in the canteen that day. Things could have gone wrong that day. I almost ruined it. I should have apologized but…
Even right now I could have answered without trying to make any fuss but no…, arghh. Those letters and those petty threats among them were really pushing my buttons. I just-I should've asked him to deal with them.' Layla read some of them out loud in the room but she didn't tell anyone about the little threats written for her and some for Lani by some idlers.
'But why the hell am I so irritated by him? Was it because of how he behaved in the class, or the question he asked in the canteen irritated me? Well, it's not like his looks can threaten me. Was it because of how he joined the student council? Is it because of how it challenged my position?' She couldn't figure it out whether it was her thoughts or his actions. As her thoughts continued to stray, Zou Haoran spoke.
"Where are we going?" he asked. Right now, he was following Layla who asked him to come with her.
"Huh!?... Oh" She cleared her throat. "On inspection."
She intended to show around and introduce one or two things about how others can use them in school.
This school building is not tall. It only has two floors, the ground floor, and the first floor. Above that, is a way to the terrace. Even if the building is not tall but it is large, it is built on a wider area sparing efforts to climb more stairs.
First of all, Layla took him to the terrace. "Some of the students skip their classes and come here which is… not good. Today, I'll show you the possible hideouts I'm aware of." She grinned at him. Since he has become her secretary, then she will play her part as vice-president well.
On reaching the terrace, he first noticed the height of the boundary of the roof. It was made of bricks and cement and was very tall. Tracing his gaze, Layla informed, "It's tall in order to prevent any accident."
They went near the railing. It was tall as she said but it wasn't blocking their view. "Many things can be seen from here." He turned to look at her. Her gaze was fixed on the ground which right now was no different than a deserted place.
After some time, she said "Since there seems to be no one. Then, we should also leave." With this, both walked to the door.
Suddenly, Layla stopped near the door frame and said sternly "If you don't come out right now then, I'll lock the door."
No one appeared.
She started to close the door, and suddenly a boy appeared in front of her. He was staring at her with anger and panic. "You should have acted more obediently."
He was sweaty. His eyes were red. Maybe from crying. He raised his fist in order to teach her a lesson "What's your problem bitc—" But before he could perform his actions completely, he was already groaning in pain.
"Ahh...owh." He was kicked by Layla with ease. One thing that gives her the confidence to interfere in a matter is the fact that she knows how to kick someone's ass. Like how this boy fell with his butt kissing hard the concrete surface.
She looked at him. When she first heard some sounds she thought that she was imagining or it was wind but when she reached near the door her suspicion grew strong and she shouted for someone to come out.
She walked near to him and advised, "If you are having any trouble, you can come to the student council room, drop a complaint or visit the counselor." From a closer distance, she could see traces of tears. As for why he was crying she had no idea. "If you are hurt, you can go to the infirmary and rest there." The boy nodded his head without looking into her eyes.
After that, she didn't say a word but asked Zou Haoran to help him to stand up.
...
'She is tough yet considerate.' Her actions on the roof showed him a glimpse of her personality. 'She tends to ignore others' words and keep doing things her own way yet she seems to be good with her job. But why doesn't she do things without any drama? It's like… a wall.
When I heard some sound on the roof, I thought she would check it. But she ignored it, proving me wrong. Yet again, she proved me wrong with her unexpected actions.' He laughed in his head.
'I even thought she would reprimand him, given her 'ready-to-bite' personality, for attacking her and almost calling her names.' He remembered how he was ready to protect her and shoulder the burden of a physically not-so-strong girl. 'She's a surprise, never fails to show me something different… and new.' He does not even remember enjoying his time so much with a girl.
'She even gave that boy an alternative to escape. I wonder whether he understood or not.'
"Do you really force others to show themselves like this?" Hearing this, she turned around only to see an expression saying that he found it entertaining.
She chose to ignore his face. "Not really." She casually answered it as if she didn't put any good thoughts in her actions. "If he wouldn't have come out, we would have had to search for him.
By the way, it's not common for others to show up with some simple threats. As they can easily message their friends to unlock the door. Sometimes, some extra smart ask their friends to lock them on the roof.
I reckon, he must be a junior who has recently joined the school who either doesn't have that good friends or who doesn't know that he shouldn't attack me." He raised his eyebrows at her reasoning.
He was tempted to ask her a question. So, he did. "Why do you like to play a bad person?"
"Because it's easier to be bad than to be good." If she would be white then dark spots would be more clearer on her. Thus, it was better for her to stick to her imperfect persona than a perfectly fake personality.
"You are a double-edged sword." She stopped to look at him. Her gaze was clearly saying that she knows this too.
...
After showing him other hideouts and scandalous love points. They were returning back to the student council room.
But something happened. They heard two girls talking.
"I heard that that bitch's brother is a thief."
"Yeah, I also heard that. When I tried to ask her, she started yelling. She must be guilty, tch, yet she was acting as if it's our fault when it was her brother. I also heard that it was her who directed her brother to steal something from the music club."
"Did you find out why?"
"That bitch. She refused to spill the beans." she hissed in annoyance. "Since she is also a member then.." They both gave each other a knowing look.
Layla and Zou Haoran were around the corner. They were about to turn when these voices forced them to halt.
Even though those two girls didn't take any names, the words they used provided them enough information to figure out the whole scenario. Layla clenched her fingers into a fist. She felt that it was her fault she shouldn't have dealt with it in a high-profile manner.
When those two girls sensed someone else's presence, they stopped talking abruptly. Their gaze landed on a beautiful girl who was wearing a badge of Vice-president. They knew her as the infamous female devil in the school, also their senior and Vice-president Layla Chen. Besides her standing was a handsome boy. He was wearing a badge of Secretary. He must be the rumored most handsome senior.
They were staring at his face thinking of all the rumors they had heard about him. But someone's icy voice perfectly cooled down their hot cheeks.
"If you are done staring then answer my questions." Layla said.
So, any guess as why Layla found it difficult to apologise
Hint: answer is simple and can be a single word. ^___^
