First Reset

Conrad considered staying around to test his luck with Edith again, however he thought better of it, not wanting to make her interest level go down by hounding her multiple times in one day. "I've got all the time in the world. Just gotta be patient."

Instead he finished his drink and made his way outside, the sun slowly beginning to dip as the hour drew into the afternoon. He looked towards the office but decided he couldn't be bothered going back. It wasn't like he was going to do any work anyways.

"Might as well head home then." He hailed a taxi, while he would have ordinarily driven himself, someone had totaled his car in the morning and run off, forcing him to walk to work in the morning. But if his bank accounts reset there was no need to walk back home. "Maybe I'll be able to catch that bastard too. Although I have no idea what time the crash happened."

It didn't take long for the taxi to reach his home, a run down three story apartment block that was probably one of the cheapest accommodations in the city. Still it was as good as he could afford.

His room was a mess, the tiny studio apartment covered head to toe in discarded clothes and trash. "I'll clean it tomorrow." Conrad sighed as he took his jacket off, throwing it into the pile of slightly clean clothes, not to be mistaken for the pile of clean or dirty clothes, or even the pile of slightly dirty clothes.

He popped open the fridge, but was met with nothing more than a half full bottle of ketchup and two cans of beer. "It'll have to do," he sighed, kicking back on his couch and flicking the T.V on, a can of beer in his hand.

It didn't take long for him to fall asleep, the melanotic voice of some random show host making it harder to stay awake the longer he listened, not that he resisted in the slightest.

By the time he woke again the sun was already high in the sky, five missed calls on his phone from work asking why he was late. Not that he cared as he turned over on the couch, not having made it to his bed before he fell asleep. That was, however, until a loud crash could be heard outside, followed by the screeching tires of a car rushing away.

Conrad jumped to his feet and rushed over to his window, ripping the curtains open only to catch the tail end of a car as it rushed around the street corner.

"Fuck! I missed it." Conrad cursed as he looked at the broken wreck that was his car, his rear tire completely snapped off, slowly rolling away down the street. "God dammit, I'll just have to try again tomorrow I guess."

His phone rang again, this time however he figured he couldn't just keep ignoring it. "Hello?"

"Ah good morning Conrad," his manager, Jane's voice, came through, though much calmer than he had expected. No yelling as well. "I was just wondering when you were going to come in today?"

"I'll be in soon, some dumbass just hit my car is all." Conrad didn't exactly lie as he looked out the window at his car. Rather he just omitted the fact that it had only just happened, or the fact that he had slept in and only just now woken up.

"Oh?" Jane sounded worried, a strange change in tone from what he was used to. "Are you alright? Would you like me to come down and give you a ride?"

"Nah, I'm fine. But a ride? Fuck it why not." Conrad grinned, this was something completely new to him, but there wasn't any reason to say no. "You have my address?"

"It's on your record, I'll be there in twenty minutes then?" Jane asked.

"Yeah that'll work." Conrad gave himself a sniff, almost recoiling at what he smelt. "Ehh.. you know what maybe It's best if you take your time."

Jane put the phone down, leaning back in her chair with a small smile on her face.

"You're seriously going to go pick him up?" Lisa asked, the two women in her office after Lisa had come to her complaining that Conrad was late for work, a scowl growing larger on her face.

"It could pay to be nicer to him, you know." Jane responded as she stood, gathering her items before putting on a large trench coat.

"Nicer? Nicer!? What the fuck has gotten into you today Jane?" Lisa jumped to her feet, slamming her hands down on Jane's desk. "Why should I be nicer to that creep? The only thing he's good for is doing my work for me."

"Ah yes that." Jane looked at her friend, eyebrow twitching slightly at her outburst. "I think it'd be best if you stop pawning off your work to Conrad. Why don't you go find someone else? Or better yet, just do it yourself?"

Lisa looked at her gobsmacked, jaw hanging open. "You can't be serious? Just yesterday you got me to give him our work so we could leave early. And now you're telling me not to?"

"I just feel we should be nicer to the man you know?" Jane said, the small smile on her face only growing.

"Do you like him or something?" Lisa asked shocked, almost choking on the words as she said them. "You can not be serious?"

"He's not too bad." Jane nodded, a small rosy pink blush tinting the edges of her cheeks. "Anyways, I'm going to go pick Conrad up now and you're going to get back to work."

Lisa could only look on gobsmacked as Jane walked out of her office, her words getting caught in her throat until she saw the woman round the corner, heading to the elevators.

"What the fuck is going on..?"
