I Don't Want To Be A Mangaka

This story takes place in a parallel universe where Manga and Anime are considered a form of art. In this world, almost everyone has seen some kind of Anime or read some sort of Manga. Equipped with the world as a consumer base, the whole industry has boomed and prospered. In this world, a successful Mangaka is not only highly respected but also very rich. The only issue is with success comes competition. It has become tough to become a Mangaka with a famous published work. Our story follows David, who receives a system that would grant him the skills and ability to become one of the greatest Mangaka in the history of this world. The only issue is that the system came with insurance payments that would help David if his work was unsuccessful. Usually, this was a good thing as it would allow David to entirely focus on becoming a good Mangaka. The problem is that the amount David could earn through the insurance payment was so high that he felt he would make more money if his Manga flopped. Thus started the journey of David, a Mangaka who cried and prayed every day that readers would stop reading his stupid Manga.

Chapter 11: Leaderboard (Part 2)

Mark – "Moving on to number six on our top 10 rankings, Abandoned with 4.5k collections by Ava."

An above-average-looking young woman with a slim build and black hair stood up and said, "Hi, I am Ava."

Mark – "So Ava, tell us your story's main theme."

Ava – "As the name suggests, my story is about how our main female protagonist finds herself suddenly waking up stranded on an island."

"She has no equipment except for her clothes and has to find a way to survive against all odds awaiting help to rescue her."

Mark – "A premise about survival with the main protagonist who has no knowledge things are bound to get interesting."

Ava – "My future plan is that she finds a journal written by someone that acts as her guide and teaches her knowledge."

Mark – "Will we be meeting this someone?"

Ava – "Maybe who knows, hahaha."

Mark – "Well, it sounds good, but my only issue would be that it lacks something like a flare that would make this manga unique from the others out there."

Ava – "Oh yes, I forgot to say that she will also come across dinosaurs on this island."

Mark – "Ah, that is exactly what I was talking about. Good job."

Ava – "Thank you, sir."

Ava then sat back down in her seat.

Meanwhile, David, who had been attentively listening to how deeply professor Mark was analyzing each work, couldn't help but say in his mind,

"Thank god my work is not in that top 10. Otherwise, god knows how I would even answer his questions. After all, I have no idea what I am doing."

Mark – "Alright then, let's look at who all have made it into the top 5, starting with eighty-eight at 5k collections by Mathew."

A tall, buffed-up young man with dark blue hair stood up and introduced himself, "Hi, I am Mathew."

Mark – "So Mathew, what does the eighty-eight in your title symbolize?"

Mathew – "The eighty-eight represents the number of people who are the only left survivors of the human race."

Mark – "Why, what happened to the others?"

Mathew – "They all died due to nuclear radiation."

Mark – "I see, so this is like an apocalypse manga?"

Mathew – "No, it is a space manga about how the lone survivors, the people on board the first-ever space hotel, live their lives."

Mark – "I see. What is your future plan?"

Mathew – "Well, I will focus on character building and how the people left finally come to terms with losing their loved ones."

"Then there will be issues like food and technical problems, then they head back to earth and so on."

Mark – "That sounds good, and I assume this is a multiple pov type manga."

Mathew – "Yes."

Mark – "My only suggestion would be to do proper transitions in pov and only do it when needed. Also, at max, work with two stories as working with multiple stories may confuse or annoy your audience."

Mathew – "Got it. Thank you for your suggestion, sir."

Mark - "Okay, then moving onto at number four, we have Most Wanted at 5.2k collections by Olivia."

A beautiful young lady in a pink dress stood up. Her hair was orange, and her pretty, delicate face outshined almost every other girl in the class.

She immediately garnered everyone's attention, and anyone who looked at her couldn't help but go in for a second glance.

Olivia - "Hi, my name is Olivia."

Mark, who was supposed to say the following dialogue requesting her to introduce her story, forgot and was left marveling at her beauty.

Olvia - "My manga most wanted follows two childhood sweethearts on their adventures as space pirates roaming the cosmos."

The class remained silent, forcing Olivia to continue, "For my future plans, I plan on introducing the various different space empires and showing them in a bad light."

"Then show are innocent heroes encountering these things and fighting for justice."

Mark, who had by now come to his senses, immediately spoke, "I see so this world there is no pure white and black but grey like real life?"

Olivia - "Yes, I feel that will help make the world more realistic."

Mark - "It sounds like a good story. I don't really have any immediate suggestions."

Mark, who was slightly embarrassed, quickly moved on from Olivia.

Mark - "Okay, then at number three, we have "Shadow Realm" with 6k collections by David."

"Wow, that's a massive jump, and I assume you have received a recommendation to be able to touch six thousand?"

"Wait a sec, you publish on Shonen Jump and manage to get 6k collections. That is incredible."

Mark saw no one standing up while he was speaking and couldn't help but ask, "Is David not here?"

David immediately jolted up and said, "No sir, I am here. It's just the number has caught me completely off guard."

"Sir, are you sure there isn't some mistake in the software?"

Mark - "Although the software isn't error-proof, the chances that it is wrong is remarkably low."

"Why do you feel it is wrong? Is the collection lower than you expected?"

David - "I will be frank, sir."

"When I last checked it this morning, I had around three thousand six hundred collections, and now it suddenly doubled, so I am very lost."

Mark - "Did you publish yesterday?"

David - "Yes."

Mark - "So your collection may still have increased due to the 24-hour rule, but doubling does sound a bit unusual."

"Do you have the jump app?"

David - "Yes, sir, good idea. I will just check it."

David then removed his mobile phone and quickly opened up the Shonen Jump app author interface.

David spoke in his mind while looking at his phone, "What is going on? Isn't it supposed to be 6,000? Why is it 6,200?"

Mark - "So, is it correct?"

David - "Well, sir, it is indeed wrong."

Mark - "Oh, by how much is it wrong?"

David rubbed his head in embarrassment and replied, "It is wrong by two hundred."

Mark - "So it is 5,800? Well that doesn't make much of a difference"

David - "No sir it is 6,200."
