-Alpha Hayden's POV
''I'm going to talk to her,'' I decide. ''I know she shouldn't have left the territory with them, but we are also to blame for that. Non of this would have happened if one of us was here to watch them.''
Brock nods and he lets out a deep sigh.
''You know what, alpha? The not knowing where they were was what made me lose it, not the fact that they were with her. I actually don't worry about them when I know that she is watching them.''
''That's the nicest thing you ever said about me. Next time you should start with that,'' Evelyn says as she holds out a bag to Brock. ''This one is for you and that one is yours.''
Evelyn hands me a blue paper bag and I'm confused. I'm pretty sure that I didn't asked Sage to get me anything.
''You got me a cashmere sweater?'' Brock asks surprised. ''Don't get me wrong it's really nice, but may I ask why you got this for me?''
''Figured you would like it, that's all,'' Evelyn answers as she lights up a cigarette. ''The same goes for you, Hayden.''
I open the bag and I pull out a dark green woolen jumper. To me clothes were a practical thing, but I have to admit that I really liked this jumper. The colour, the v-neck and the wool feels incredibly soft.
''Thank you, Evelyn.''
''Does this means that we're all friends again?'' Emmet teases as he joins us and reaches for Evelyn's cigarette.
''We are good and we both really appreciate your sister's gesture,'' I say with a smile.
''Great, now we can finally eat!'' Emmet grins and he takes a puff. ''The pizzas are done and the beer is cold, so what are we waiting for?''
''For you to give me my cigarette back.'' Evelyn sighs. ''Why can't you just get your own?''
''I'm sorry, little sister. I think I forgot to put it on your list?''
And there we go again.
''You can kill your brother after dinner,'' I hastily step in as I put my hands on Evelyn shoulders and steer her towards the front door. ''It would be a shame to let the pizza get cold, wouldn't it?''
''You are not thinking it through, Hayden,'' Evelyn mutters. ''More pizza for us if we kill him now and there is nothing wrong with cold pizza. Haven't you ever had breakfast for dinner?''
Can't argue we that kind of logic.
Luckily I don't have to argue. Alpha Jake is taken the pizzas out of the oven, what I find odd. Weren't those pizzas ready to eat when Evelyn brought them?
''Those two eat pretty much everything, but not when it comes to the toppings of their pizza,'' alpha Jake explains when he sees my frown. ''It's just easier to finish the pizzas here and there is plenty left. You and beta Brock can still add some toppings if you like.''
''I'm good, but thank you,'' I say as I grab a plate.
''Alpha Hayden, do you mind if we eat in the living room?'' Emmet asks. ''Tonight is the finale and the game is almost starting.''
''That's fine,'' I answer.
Both Emmet and alpha Jake are gone the moment I said that it was okay. Brock puts some of the extra toppings on his pizza, while Evelyn grabs herself a beer.
''Not in a hurry to watch the game?'' I ask amused.
''More like not in a hurry to let Emmet get his hands on my pizza.'' Evelyn sighs. ''He always does that, so another reason why you should have let me kill him.''
''Or we simply switch places,'' Brock suggests. ''You sit next to alpha Hayden and I will sit next to your brother. Problem solved, so can we eat now?''
Brock doesn't wait on her answer and he walks out of the kitchen. By the time Evelyn and I join the others in the living room, Brock is sitting in the armchair next to Emmet.
The game has Emmet's full attention, although I do see him eyeing his sister's plate from time to time. That's all he does, so Brock's plan is working and Evelyn can eat her pizza in peace.
I on the other hand have trouble focusing on my food or on the game. Ever since the night that we were attacked by hunters I noticed that something changed between me and Evelyn.
Like knowing that she was living in the pack house again made me irrational happy and it was the same when Evelyn called me by my name. This shewolf made my head spin and I didn't understand it all. Evelyn had her moments where you could say that she was nice, but she was usually herself.
Rude, outspoken and sarcastic.
''You are just like Emmet,'' Evelyn grumbles. ''Ask if you want a slice of my pizza, don't keep staring at it.''
''I was just thinking that you have a interesting combination of toppings, nothing more,'' I say as I pretend to focus my attention back on the game.
''Interesting is just a polite way to say that you find something weird. Just try it and form a real opinion.''
No, she wasn't outspoken at all.
Evelyn basically shoves her pizza in my mouth and I feel the sauce drip down my face. No need for napkins, because Evelyn simply wipes the sauce away with her thumb, while she keeps her gaze set on my face.
''Fine, it's good,'' I sigh. ''I never had figs and goat cheese on a pizza, but I like it.''
''Obviously,'' Evelyn mumbles as she licks the sauce off her thumb.
No, why did she had to do that?

-Evelyn's POV
What the hell is wrong with me?
At first my skin felt itchy and it was like the itch kept moving, making it impossible for me to scratch it away. Then the hot flashes started and those were driving me mad.
Drinking water did nothing and neither did walking in the freezing cold. My last resort is drinking ice cold gin and hoping that I could get drunk enough to make all of this go away.
Fucking haze!
I finally figured it out and I'm ready to kill myself. The haze was basically the Goddess way of telling a shewolf that she was ready to be mated.
Translation, it would make shewolves horny as hell!
The problem was that a shewolf would give out a certain scent when she was experiencing the haze and that scent would work as a magnet on every wolf that was not mated.
Living on my own since the age of sixteen made it possible for me to barely be effected by the haze. I simply took care of my own needs and that sufficed, but apparently not anymore. Living among so many wolves made the haze hit me at full force.
''Are you sober enough to make it up the stairs?''
''Go away!'' I growl as I try to make my way up, but another hot flash forces me to stop and I cling to the banister.
''Goddess, how much did you had?'' I hear Hayden sigh as he walks down the stairs.
''Leave, Hayden. Leave now!''
''I will as soon as I help you get safely upstairs,'' Hayden answers and he lays his hand on my arm and tries to help me stand steady.
My balance is not the problem and soon he will know what really is going on with me. That alone was embarrassing enough, but the thought that my brothers would find out about this.
I would die of embarrassment!
No, I wouldn't allow that to happen. Although I wasn't convinced at all about the only plan I could come up with.
''Do you think you can make it back to your room now?'' Hayden asks me amused.
I look at him for a moment and I take one last big gulp of the gin, before I reach for his hand. Hayden looks surprised at first and even more when I start to walk in the direction of his him room. The only place in the pack house where no one else accept him was allowed.
''Evelyn, are you really sure about this?'' I hear Hayden ask when I lock the door of his room. ''You had too much to drink and I don't...''
I tear off his shirt and my clothes are the next thing to go. Hayden's eyes darken as I am standing naked in front of him and then my scent hits him.
In the blink of an eye Hayden has me pinned against the wall and I hear him inhale my scent deeply before he starts to trail kisses down the side of my neck.
This was pure torture!
The way my body craved his touch was insane! Like I couldn't breath without it. I pull Hayden as close to me as possible, but it still isn't enough. Feeling his skin on mine doesn't make the itching or the hot flashes go away liked I hoped.
No, his touch combined it and I know that I completely have to surrender. The haze was too strong and fighting it would only make it worse.
''I'm sure,'' I pant. ''I need you, Hayden. I need you to take me right now!''
