Just Friends
Katherine at this point didn't know what to say to this stubborn man that will make him leave her alone.
If she was going to be honest with herself Katherine didn't want him to leave, she wanted him to be by her side, she had been in love with him for the past three years and she wanted nothing more than spend the rest of her life with him but she knew that dream is far fetched because BEPBU were still looking for her, wanting to drag her back and she would never be able to live in peace until she completely destroys them, and now that she knows that Xander is sincere and serious about her she didn't want to put his life in danger.
"Xander this is too dangerous, I've been on the run for a while now and they are still looking for me, they want me back because I'm the first and only successful result of their sick experiment. I don't want them to harm you because of me" Katherine said to Xander with a serious expression.
"I will never allow them or anyone who wishes you harm to even touch a single strand of your hair, I'm not a weakling my sweet girl. I will protect you and myself so you don't have to worry about me, just know that I am and will always be on your side, your mission is my mission, your burdens are my burdens, you are no longer alone." Xander said to Katherine with an equal serious look on his face.
"Fine, your call. But I don't want to rush into any relationship for now so let's just be friends for now" Katherine furrowed her brows and said with a small pout which Xander found cute. She was still having doubts about everything so she didn't want to rush things, for now she wanted to take things slowly.
After being betrayed by Tom and the inhumane things that BEPBU did to her, it would not be easy to open up to anyone
Xander completely understood her so he replied "Okay sweet, if that is what you want then so be it." Now that he has found her he would do anything to keep her by his side forever.
Katherine was grateful that Xander was understanding and that he didn't push her to her limits, she looked at the way he was still holding her hand tightly with no intention to let it go and she blushed, she cleared her throat and said "you should get some rest, I will have someone bring you breakfast an hour later."
"But I'm not tired and I don't want you to go anywhere, I'll be sad and lonely" Xander tried to coax her to stay. He had been dreaming about this moment for what seemed like forever, he wanted to embrace her and never let her go.
"I have work to do, and I still need to check for the new location that BEPBU moved to. It takes time to track them down" Katherine answered him honestly, now that they had destroyed yet another one of BEPBU territory she needed to create a fresh set of codes that will be used in tracking the new location.
The BEPBU organization have high quality technology and everything in the organization is top notch that is why it had been difficult to track them, but Katherine will not rest until she puts an end to all of this.
"Do you do the the tracking yourself?" asked Xander to which Katherine nodded in affirmation.
"Do you live here? Alone or with others? Who are those people that I saw you with back at the BEPBU building?" Xander probed further wanting to know more about her.
He was able to dig up her information and everything about her life three years ago but now everything has changed so he felt the need to know the new Katherine more than he new the old Katherine.
Katherine was hesitant because she didn't work to give out too much information so she decided to answer him without telling him more than he needs to know for now "Yes this is my house and I live alone here. The people you saw with me back there are Emily Lu and Harris Lu, their father adopted me when I escaped but unfortunately he passed away four months after that, we have been working together ever since then."
"I see, will you be accompanying me for breakfast?" Xander decided to change the topic because he noticed how Katherine was uncomfortable answering his questions and he didn't want to force her to talk, he was willing to wait patiently for her until she was ready to open up.
Katherine was grateful that he changed the topic, she said "No I really have so much work to do so I will quickly eat something in my office. But perhaps I will join you for dinner, the doctors will come to check on your condition and then after you have lunch some of your men will be allowed to see you, they are all here in the guest house, they have been worried about you."
Katherine went straight to her study after finally convincing the clingy Xander to let her go, she made sure to ask her maid to cook delicious and nutritious meal for him before she went to work.
After she was done working on her company matters she focused her attention on creating a new software that will be used to track BEPBU, it was already three thirty in the evening when Katherine finally finished her work for the day. She was about to head upstairs to her room when the Lu siblings came to give their report.
After concluding their meeting which took one more hour it was time for them to leave, but the Lu siblings had something to say to Katherine, Harris cleared his throat and said "Mistress about the man you brought here.. When is he leaving? I hope you did not tell him anything."
"I didn't need to tell him, he knows all about BEPBU and he knows that I'm Katherine" answered Katherine.
"If he knows then it is too dangerous for him to be here, what if it is yet another plot of the BEPBU to get you back? You can't trust him just like that" Harris was both worried and angry at the same time, he couldn't believe that this guy would just randomly show up and she would trust him or allow him to stay near her.
"Yes Harris is right boss, I have told you before you cannot trust him and he might cause problems to our mission" Emily sided with her brother.
"Look guys, I know you are worried about me and I'm grateful for that, it means that you care. But you have to trust me and know that I will never rest until I bring BEPBU down, nothing will stand in my way and as for Xander.. We are just friends for now and he has promised to help me bring them down, he's a rich powerful king of the underworld and we definitely would need his resources, right now we need all the help we can get, you know how powerful BEPBU is, if we really want to wipe them out completely then we need more help and Xander is the perfect solution for now. Don't worry guys Xander will not betray me and even if he does, be sure to know that I will rip his heart out" Katherine calmly explained to her adopted siblings.
The Lu siblings know what Katherine is capable of so even though they don't trust or like Xander they decided to tolerate his presence for now until he gets better and leave, then they would try to convince her to cut off contact with him, unbeknownst to them Xander was here to stay in Katherine's life forever.
After the Lu siblings left Katherine went to her room which is the master bedroom and she took a shower and changed her clothes, even though she would be joining Xander for dinner she decided not to wear anything fancy so she wore her usual clothes which was long sleeved V-line black T-shirt and a black high waist jeans that has three silver buttons on each side and a blue jacket.
She tied her golden blond hair into a ponytail and after giving herself one last look she went downstairs and headed to Xander's room
When she arrived at the door she was a little hesitant about going in because the last time she was alone with him in that room he had kissed her, Katherine felt her cheeks turned hot and she felt butterflies in her stomach.
She remembered the way their bodies were intimately pressed against each other and the way his lips and tongue devoured hers... "OMG what are you thinking about Kath?! Get your sh*t together, I feel like I have become a pervert!!" Katherine whispered to herself before she composed herself and then cleared her throat and knocked on the door once before she he heard his deep husky and sexy voice say: "Come in."
