Problems approaching

While it was supposed to use normal means to consume more than one hundred points of mana, Sigma managed to make Archery level up in just one hour of training… the prospects of his power were getting more interesting by the minute. To the point that he even had some new ideas.

Aside from using the weapons he got and obtaining Swordmanship and Spearmanship, Sigma also thought that he might be able to learn a passive skill to attack faster… he tried numerous methods, but none of that worked.

"So you are here…" Sabrina's voice suddenly came from behind Sigma. "At least warn us when you leave…"

Sigma turned and then he saw Sabrina and Eclair, it was a bit annoying, so he looked away. He didn't know why Eclair disliked to be looked at so much, but it was better to avoid problems.

"When are we going?" Sigma asked.

"It is kind of annoying when you talk without looking at me…" Sabrina furrowed her eyebrows. "In one hour, after breakfast."

Never mind that both sisters were a massive pain in the ass. After packing his things, Sigma returned to the house. Then they had breakfast which was essentially the leftovers of the stew of the previous night. It didn't seem like the people of the city were struggling when it came to food, but they didn't have that much leeway either.

"Northeast of here, there is an area that has been occupied by some monsters. One group is just a regular pack of two-headed hyenas, and the other is a quite large flock of Verdiris," Ed said once they finished their meal. "With Sabrina alone, we had a hard time fighting the flying monsters, but with Sigma's help, things should work out."

Sigma could imagine what a hyena was, and he frowned since he couldn't recall where he saw them… was it during the seven years that he lost his memories? Before that? Regardless, he had no idea what those Verdiris were.

"What are those flying monsters?" Sigma asked.

"They are essentially monsters that can fly and attack pretty fast using wind magic," Ed explained. "I hate them with all my being… monsters that can use magic are sometimes called magic beasts. It is better to get rid of them as soon as possible because they get stronger over time, and the stronger they get, the faster they reproduce."

Sigma wondered what the connection was for that to be possible… regardless, as long as he has the chance to get stronger and see their magic in action, it will be fine. In fact, he somehow felt that wind magic would truly agree with him.

"The magic stones in their bodies should be bigger than normal, and their meat can also be eaten, so we can make a lot in one go," Ed said, and then he grabbed his longsword that was on the side of the chimney.

Speaking of equipment, they didn't have that many… aside from a few elbow and knee protectors, Ed was almost completely unprotected. Eclair and Sabrina had some cloaks, but only that. Underneath, they were were just some short pants, boots, and a white cotton shirt. For some reason, Sigma felt that they should have a wand or a book with them.

As soon as the group left the house, Sigma saw someone running in their direction, and he could tell that it wasn't a good sign… it was a boy who was around twelve years old. He assumed that it was a messenger since the boy shouted Ed's name, and those three turned at the same time.

"Oh, boy…" Ed said and then sighed.

Sigma was the one who wanted to say that and sigh as well. In any case, the boy didn't waste time and just kept running and shouting that Rose had given Ed's group a new order. Some bandits and monsters had been seen in the west side of the area, which was the direction they came from. It seemed that the enemies decided to put into action the large-scale attack that everyone had been waiting for. They wouldn't have approached for any other reason.

"Sorry, Sigma… we will have to help you another day," Ed said while showing a serious expression.

Sabrina also showed an apologetic expression while Eclair bowed deeply before they also left. At least they didn't ask him to join the fight… After a good night's rest, they realized that they couldn't ask everyone they met to help them defend their city. They also realized that Sigma had a lot on his plate to worry about the problems of many others… Amnesia, lack of knowledge, and the search for someone whom he thought was important to himself, but he wasn't sure.

"Well, now… what should I do?" Sigma rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

Not many people were running toward the walls. Still, Sigma could see a lot running in the opposite direction… they were considering escaping if things got dire. They sure had some balls for acting like that when others were risking their lives to protect the city.

"I guess I should at least see how the situation is before deciding anything…" Sigma thought, and then he dashed toward the wall.

When Sigma reached the wall, he found a long rope that he could use to climb it and then he did exactly that. It didn't take long before he reached the peak and only saw a few dozen people around, ready to fight… at the same time, he could see hundreds of flying monsters approaching in the air and a number equally troublesome of large monsters coming from the ground. They were a bit weird since they were a bit fat and walked on two legs, but their bodies were green and slimy like lizards… as if that wasn't weird enough, they also had some massive clubs in each of their hands.

"I guess they plan to knock down the wall with those while the flying monsters keep us busy," Sigma thought.
