Vomit Blood

Like Diaz, Ruby also breathed a sigh of relief. Then, she released her grip on Matthew's hand so the man could stand up.

When Matthew saw Ruby only wearing a thin nightgown, he immediately took off the robe he was wearing and wrapped Ruby's body in his robe.

"You must be cold." Matthew took Ruby's hand and rubbed it gently. "Your hands are even as cold as snow."

Matthew blew warm air into Ruby's hand and covered her hand with his big hand, trying to transmit a warm temperature that would make Ruby feel more comfortable.

"Feeling warmer?"

Ruby nodded and smiled a little. She felt that Matthew's treatment also warmed her heart.

"How long have I been unconscious?" Matthew asked Diaz.

"Not too long, maybe five or seven minutes." Diaz then noticed Matthew's face became paler. "Does your body feel bad? Should I call a healer?"

After Matthew's mind had fully recovered, the man immediately looked at Diaz with a gaze full of judgment. "No need. We have more important things to discuss now. Sir Diaz, didn't I order you to stay in front of Lady Ruby's chamber tonight? But why did you leave your position and even come late?"

"If only I hadn't come back tonight, maybe the berserker would have killed Ruby by now!"

Diaz immediately knelt before Matthew. His head lowered as he said, "Please forgive me, Your Majesty! Matthew frowned as he thought such a phenomenon had never happened before. The reason is that although the berserkers always rise during the full moon, most of them wander more often in nature than infiltrating palaces or settlements.

Mainly because the palace always lit a fireplace in every room when the full moon came. Even if a room doesn't have a fireplace, it shouldn't have to go straight through the room unless there are many rooms in the palace where the fireplace is off.

"Order all the soldiers to check all the fireplaces in the palace and immediately report to me tomorrow morning."

Diaz was about to get up, but he heard Matthew speak again. "But your mistake today can't be forgiven easily, Sir Diaz. Due to your negligence, Lady Ruby almost lost her life."

Diaz lowered his head even more profoundly, almost touching the floor. He no longer defended himself nor pleaded for mercy from Matthew.

"I am willing to accept the death penalty from His Majesty for my negligence in protecting Lady Ruby."

Ruby gasped in surprise after hearing Diaz's words. Ruby certainly knew that many kingdoms still implemented the death penalty for those who disobeyed the king's orders. However, Ruby didn't think someone should get the death penalty because of her.

Ruby immediately wrote down her thoughts on a piece of paper, then gave the paper to Matthew.

"Please consider Sir Diaz's situation, Your Majesty. As he had said earlier, many intruders infiltrated and endangered the palace's residents, so it was only natural that Sir Diaz had to step in."

Ruby gave another sheet of paper. "My life is indeed in danger, but the lives of others are also in danger tonight. Both the palace's residents and I have the right to live, so I think Sir Diaz's actions are right."

Moreover, Diaz also tried to come to Ruby's room as soon as possible after killing the berserkers who wandered in the hallway. The whole man's clothes were stained with black blood, making Ruby feel sorry and not want him to be punished by Matthew.

On the other hand, Matthew admires Ruby's ability to give clever arguments. The woman adds facts and emotional actions to her opinion so that it can touch the heart of the interlocutor.

"But if I had come late, you could have died, Milady," said Matthew.

Ruby bit her lower lip as she wrote a new sentence. She looked hesitant as she handed the paper to Matthew.

"The wolf almost killed me, but His Majesty also almost killed me, and Sir Diaz was the one who tried to save me earlier."

Matthew widened his eyes as he read the sentence. Pain suddenly hit his heart as Matthew remembered that he had strangled Ruby with his own hands.

Even though it was Matius's action, but Matthew's inability to control his body almost cost Ruby his life.

Matthew doesn't even think he deserves to scold Diaz anymore because he also deserves punishment for what he did to Ruby.

"Milady, I'm sorry," Matthew whispered. His eyes looked dim when he saw the strangulation mark on Ruby's neck. "Even though I promised to protect you while in Veritas, but instead I …."

Matthew gritted his teeth as he was unable to continue. Ruby is willing to come to Veritas and marry him because Matthew promised to protect her and give her a better life. However, Matthew broke his own promise instead.

The man felt angry, this time not at others but himself.

However, the anger suddenly evaporated when Ruby touched his hand. The woman then wrote something on his palm with a gentle motion.

"Your Majesty, the person who hurt me earlier was not you. So, Your Majesty, you don't have to feel guilty."

Even though Matthew and Matius are in the same body, Ruby can feel they are two different people.

Matius continuously emits an intense killing aura and has a gaze as cold as snow, while Matthew always looks at Ruby with warmth.

Matius's personality is very similar to the rumors circulating among the commoners, while Matthew's behavior differs from the rumors.

"Milady… how can you not be afraid of me af—Ruby! You are having a nosebleed!"

Ruby immediately touched her nose and felt a thick liquid flowing down from her nose. When Ruby looked at her own hands, her eyes caught a red color that seemed in contrast to her white skin.

It is blood.

Suddenly Ruby's head was hit by painful dizziness, making her unable to maintain her balance and stumbling backward.

Just before Ruby's body hit the hard floor, Matthew caught the woman's body and carried her in his embrace.

Inside Matthew's warm embrace, Ruby could faintly hear the man's voice shouting her name.

"Ruby! Ruby, you can't faint!"

Due to the continuous blood flow from her nose, Ruby's breathing became blocked, so the woman had to open her mouth to breathe.

"Cough … cough …."

Along with her persistent coughing, blood also flowed from Ruby's mouth. Fear immediately ran through Ruby's heart when she saw the blood coming out of her nose and mouth so much that it could drip onto the floor.

Matthew also didn't expect Ruby could vomit that much blood. In a panic, Matthew immediately shouted to Diaz, "Hurry, call the healer!"
