I became an NPC in The Great Tomb of Nazarick

This is an AU! In a world where Earth is dying and humanity struggles, virtual reality games, especially the VR game YGGDRASIL, provide an escape. Momonga, the leader of a powerful race in YGGDRASIL, remains online as the game faces shutdown. Alone, he reconnects with a comrade, Bukubukuchagama, before YGGDRASIL's closure. Meanwhile, in Nazarick's ninth-floor library, an androgynous character named Thoth, a trapped soul, anticipates freedom as the game ends. Upon the game's closure, Thoth gains control of his movements and discovers his angelic form. As Thoth explores his new abilities and surroundings, a mysterious world awaits beyond the virtual realm. With an enigmatic library, magical prowess, and a goal to adapt to the new world, Thoth embarks on an adventure, uncovering his true potential and encountering diverse characters within the Great Tomb of Nazarick. As the story unfolds, alliances, conflicts, and loyalty to the supreme one, Momonga, shape the fate of Nazarick and its inhabitants in this virtual-to-real fantasy journey. -x-x-x- I've only seen the anime, and have only read the later half of the LN (at which point, the story will be completely different anyway so it won't matter), so forgive any inaccuracies. Also, I don't know much about angel lore as an atheist, so I'm gonna be making up my own stuff. Hope you like the story and have a good one. Setting up

Now, taking down the Slane Theocracy would be fairly difficult.

Of course, if Nazarick wanted to, the Theocracy would be crushed, it wouldn't even be a challenge.

However, Thoth was alone, and who knows what kind of danger he would encounter, especially that elf girl with daddy issues, she was probably one of the few people he had to keep an eye on, though he could easily crush her as well.

As far as Thoth remembered, she could even take on Lupus and stand a chance, which was impressive by this world's standards, and he planned on getting her to his side.

His first action would be to find the scriptures, to do that, he would manipulate the memories of high-ranking individuals until he found the needed info, after he had all the scriptures on his side or out of commission, nothing would stop him from simply ripping the nation apart with his bare hands.

Thoth always loved the crusades, though he never expected to become a one-man crusade, but hey, life is unpredictable.

Thoth decided to fly to the Theocracy, it's been a while since he last soared through the air, and he missed the feeling.

He used his mask to make himself invisible and flew through the air, at this rate, he would be in the Theocracy at Sunfall, not bad considering he left Nazarick in the middle of the day.

Thoth felt like a human plane, this speed would kill any human without the protection of an airplane's walls, but he wasn't even shaken by it.

Thank God he was born as a Nazarick NPC, if he was reborn as a new-world native, he would be incredibly screwed, now he held power incomprehensible to the human mind in his hands.

It felt pretty good.

Thoth arrived as the sun fell on the horizon, a city could be seen in front of him, a fairly large one as well.

He descended into the city to find out some intel while staying invisible.

Thoth listened to the conversations happening around him, trying to grasp the current situation while staying on the move, nothing of interest was being discussed, meaning the people weren't made aware of the destruction of the Sunlight Scripture or Ainz's existence.

It was a good move, though Thoth didn't care about the censorship for long, now, he needed to find a map and find the man who ruled this city to get some off-limits intelligence.

It wasn't difficult to find the place where the ruler stayed, the castles in the Theocracy weren't as luxurious and extravagant, but they were still castles, it's pretty difficult to miss them.

Thoth soared towards it, the guards were completely oblivious to his presence as he teleported inside the mansion.

Now, in the capital of the Theocracy, he would need to be more careful, but in a city so far away from it, the odds of anything worthy of note being around were so outrageously low that Thoth didn't even bother putting up any more precautions aside from his mask.

Thoth teleported in through a window and he looked around, right now, he seemed to be in some kind of guest room, with a comfortable bed and carpet along with a nice carpet and wooden table.

He didn't gawk for long, instead, he immediately slightly opened the door and waited for someone to come walking by.

After a few minutes, he heard the sound of someone approaching, Thoth prepared himself, and as the sound of footsteps neared the door, he opened the door wide and rushed out.

In front of him was a woman dressed in white priest attire, she had some documents in her arms and a small proud face.

Her eyes widened in fear as Thoth blocked her mouth and dragged her inside the guest room, after he dragged her in and closed the door, he knocked her out and read her memories, specifically the ones regarding the layout of the place.

Why should he run around looking for the lord when others already know where he is? This way would be far more efficient.

From what he learned, the lord liked to reside in his office, which was not too far from here luckily enough.

The lady was carrying some reports to his office, that he could take advantage of.

Thoth pushed the poor woman beneath the large bed and took her report, he then quickly skimmed through them.

It was nothing of too much interest, just some taxes, though from what he could tell, she did it all personally to impress the lord and hopefully get promoted, hence her pride.

'It was a job well done I suppose.' Thoth nodded as he looked at the papers.

He then put the papers back with the woman and left the room after changing her memories to forget the last few minutes.

Thoth quickly walked through the corridors, soon enough he reached a double wooden door, he put up his ear against the door, and after ensuring no one was inside, he stormed into the room.

A fit man wearing a black priest outfit with brown hair, black eyes, and a mustache could be seen sitting on a wooden chair, in front of him some documents could be seen, he looked up at the door which suddenly flew open for no apparent reason.

Thoth cast "[Silence]" on the area, the lord could only sweat nervously as he tried to shout for the guards and nothing came out of his mouth.

Thoth revealed himself, rather, he revealed his half-angel form, causing the man to freeze in fear.

Thoth simply motioned for the man to remain quiet and he removed the silence, the man immediately dropped to one knee and remained silent.

He could feel the eyes crawling all over him, the creature's brilliant white wings made his very mind shake in respect and fear. (His wings are white because of the world item, they are black in reality.)

Thoth spoke, his voice echoing in the room, adding additional power to it.

"Stand mortal, I require your cooperation." Thoth motioned at his chair, on which the lord promptly sat.

Thoth created another chair, one made out of white porcelain which glowed with divine magic, intentionally made that way to impress the man further.

The man didn't know if he should maintain eye contact, what he should say or do, and even if he wanted to maintain eye contact, where the hell was he supposed to look?

So he did it the safe way and simply lowered his face, showing the angel in front of him that he fully accepted his position below it while also not having to maintain eye contact.

Thoth ignored the panicking man and continued to speak, though he disliked the lack of eye contact.

"Look up at me," The man did as commanded, sensing the issue, Thoth pointed to his two main eyes, "For eye contact, you may look here."

"...Thank you for your understanding, great one." The man spoke, his voice was masculine and deep, while the look in his eyes was panicked, he seemed like a capable ruler to Thoth.

"It's nothing, a servant of the Gods should be treated as such." Thoth dismissively waved his hand, "Now then, I need you to close your eyes."

The man, who was called Alexander by the people who knew him, closed his eyes without hesitation, he, like all people in the Theocracy, was a believer through and through, hence he trusted the servant of God with all his heart.

Thoth reached out his hand and touched the man's head, and he immediately started messing around with his memories, as he did this, he spoke to him.

"Tell me, loyal believer, don't you feel the Theocracy has fallen in recent times?"

Alexander suddenly "remembered" many moments in which the upper leadership seemed to be in decadence, in which corruption seemed to overflow, but he and the other priests managed to keep it in line, still, the higher-ranked priests have fallen from grace no doubt.

"Indeed they have..." Alexander answered with disappointment in his voice, to think the Theocracy would fall like this...

His head throbbed in pain, no doubt his mind was in pain since those memories were so painful, indeed, no doubt about it.

Thoth carefully guided the man further to his liking, "Don't you feel the leadership should be replaced by more capable and pure individuals? Someone who truly believes?"

Alexander's brain seemed to swell in his skull as he felt his skull throb with pain, but he agreed as he remembered more and more things.

"Y-Yes..." Thoth, now seeing Alexander in visible pain, stopped his magic as he lowered his hand, giving an apologetic look to the man.

"I apologize for making you remember such terrible things, however, for the greater good, it's necessary."

"I understand perfectly great one, my head just hurts remembering our leaders acting like such animals..." Alexander shook his head, trying do dismiss the pain.

"I was sent down to create a new nation, one led by me, guided by the hands of the six Gods themselves, I will need your help to purge the corruption out of this nation, are you willing to aid my efforts?"

Alexander's face hardened in determination and he spoke with absolute determination, "I shall follow you until the end."

"Excellent!" Thoth clapped his hands, excited things were going so smoothly, "I will leave here and go find other Priests like yourself, ones who are still pure, together, we shall rebuild the Slane Theocracy and it shall rise to heights never before seen!"

Alexander had a smile on his face, indeed, he was making the correct decision aiding this angel, clearly, its intention was only good, and it intended to help humanity rise up above the other races.

Thoth left soon after instructing Alexander to continue acting as normal and only to rise up when given the signal, until then, he must prepare the people for the revolution and ensure they are more loyal to him than the Slane Theocracy.

A monumentally difficult task, but Alexander wasn't gonna just give up, this was a task given to him by his Gods, and he had to work all day and night for it, if he died from overwork, then he only hoped it would be a worthy sacrifice.

Thoth spent a week traveling all over the Theocracy like this, though as he got closer to the capital, he became significantly more careful, who knows what other world items these zealots were in control of after all.

The outskirts of the Theocracy have been completely dominated by him on the other hand, and no one knew a thing, unfortunately, he didn't manage to get any info on the scripture, that kind of information could likely only be found in the capital.

Now, Thoth could certainly just quietly take over the nation like this, but he didn't want to do that, no no no...

These people dared to control him, and though Thoth wasn't aware of it, after being stripped of control for such a long time, forced to watch his body move without his consent, the fact he was controlled again rubbed him the wrong way in a very strong way.

This country would burn, its people would gurgle on their blood, and their Gods would do nothing, for they could do nothing, cause they didn't even exist.

A crusade in its true form, pure violence sharpened and honed by faith, two peoples killing one another all for an unknown entity in the sky, oh how ironic.

Thoth would control the destruction of course, he would make sure not too many people were slaughtered, like children for example, but the soldiers and priests would definitely be bathed in their own blood to wash away their sins of controlling him, of trying to control Shalltear, and of standing against Nazarick.

These worms are just another stepping stone, a mere pebble in the universe, it's high time they are reminded of just how futile their meager existence is.

All it took was a week, and half of the nation was prepared to fight by his side, now he only needed to find the scriptures, change their memories, convince them to change sides, or just kill them all.

After this, Thoth would manipulate the nation to become more accepting of the undead, he would specifically mention how Ainz is a divine soul put into the immortal body of an undead so he could lead the world forever.

Now that would be hard for the people to accept, but that's why he wanted this war to happen in the first place, he would ensure only the most loyal and fanatical of his believers would remain, and the few normal people wouldn't be numerous enough to matter.

He would control the leaders and important figures too, and he would push the civilians from all sides to listen to his words, even when he wasn't around, they would be getting brainwashed into listening to him, to his every command.

He would also make sure they saw his biblical form, or rather, a perfect fake made with his mask, this would cause them all to worship him like a God, and people tend to not think as much when powers beyond their comprehension are at play.

First, he had to secure a few scriptures to his side, he didn't want to deal with the elves personally, though if a certain girl would join his side in exchange for the power to get revenge, he would gladly give her that power.

Thoth flew out of another city, and this time, he headed straight to the capital. He was prepared just in case. He had his mask, his divine tier equipment and his ring of darkness was active as well, meaning if someone somehow saw past his world item, they wouldn't see him unless they also managed to bypass the divine tier item on top of that.

His spear was in his hands too, in case he needed to fight.

The city appeared in front of him, and needless to say, it was a marvel to behold.

The city of Silksuntecks, the capital of the most advanced and powerful human nation that Thoth was aware of was certainly impressive, with four rings of thick stone walls, a large garrison, and a very high number of skilled priests patrolling the streets, the city was the definition of a fortress and trading hub.

The castle in the middle of the city was the most impressive, its windows were like those of a cathedral, and symbols of the Six Gods adorned its outside while its high towers oversaw the entire city.

The city was noticeably more advanced, with magical items used all through it, in general, magic seemed to be more commonly used here than in the other human nations, with magical lights used to bring attention to important things.

The city is large by this world's standards, its size like that of the city of Rome when at its peak during the days of the Roman Empire.

I quickly descended, but no one took note of my presence, meaning the invisibility worked in the city at least.

I walked through the clean streets, the people all clearly happy, though the rare nonhuman seemed to be less than happy, with people giving dirty looks and even scrunching up their faces in disgust.

'Right, I almost forgot they are all racist, to be honest, it's surprising they are even allowed in the capital, they probably can't come near any churches though, that's for sure.'

Thoth couldn't help but narrow his eyes at such a thing, at least now he wouldn't feel bad while killing them all.

And so, Thoth looked to the large castle, he would go there next, and he could only pray that he would be successful, if he was, Nazarick would gain a lot of valuable resources.
