I Am The Witness

The life of a 26-year old author, Aixela Louisiana Supresencia, was simple with her mother and sister who raised her. Aixela was orphaned early because of a mishap that caused her to meet the man who turned into her inspiration in writing her novels. This man is the one who saved her life. Aixela dreams of becoming a famous author like her late mother but the right time for her rise has not yet come so she just continues to write and take care of their family business where she met her boyfriend Louis. Her relationship with her boyfriend went well until it gradually cooled down and changed. One day she decided to visit the grave of her bereaved mother. She does it every year but unexpectedly, this visit will make a big difference in her life. On her way back to the airport, she accidentally witnessed a crime that caused her and Police Inspector John Dether Anton Dy Jr. to cross paths. Anton was the police officer who helped her when the culprit tried to chase her. He also provided a witness protection program to Aixela where they had to live under the same roof to guarantee her security. Anton has dreamed since he was a child to be a good detective like his late father and as he was preparing for his promotion test, he met Aixela which also caused him to change his outlook in life. The two did not get along well with each other at first, but later they became sympathetic to each other, especially when Anton helped Aixela to move on when she broke up with her long-term boyfriend who fooled her. Aixela, on the other hand, helped Anton prepare for his promotion test. The two became close to each other and investigated the case together. Along with the various trials they faced while resolving the case was the deepening of their feelings to each other until they discovered something.

Aixela's Pov:

It is my first morning here at Mister Police Officer's house. If I remember it right, his name is Anton chuchu Dy Jr. His name is very long and I think it's even longer than my name. But who cares? I'll call him Mister Police Officer instead.

"What are you doing?" He suddenly spoke.

"Huh?" I found myself staring at him while he's eating.

"If you're hungry, go get yourself food. Don't just look at me. You're old enough to prepare your own breakfast," He said then drinks his coffee.

"A-Ok," I just answered that way and did not bother to explain.

I stood up from the couch and fix the pillows and blanket. I went first to the bathroom to wash my face and make coffee and a sandwich.

"Hurry up, we'll go to the precinct," I heard him said. "You will tell the detectives what you have told me."

I just nodded and went to the table where he is sitting. I was too shy to sit beside him because, of course, I don't really know him at all.

I thought he would offer me the chair, but he didn't even bother to approach me. Instead, he stood up and put his mug in the sink. I just smiled at myself and took a seat. I think he doesn't have a girlfriend. Or he never had a girlfriend. With his attitude, nobody will like him, definitely.

"Wash the dishes properly," He said before he goes to the bathroom.

Ok, I know I should be doing those washing dishes things since I am living with him in his own house. But gosh! Why he isn't hospitable? Like, he doesn't even treat me like a girl, or a witness, or a visitor. Or, maybe I am just overreacting? Eh, whatever.

After I wash the dishes, I used the bathroom and fix myself. Mister Police Officer told me that I have to bring the clothes I wore last night when the crime happened, so I put them in a paper bag. When everything was already set, he drove his car to the precinct and brought me to the interrogation room. The same questions were asked so I answered what I told Mister Police Officer. After the interrogation, they told me to wait and they left.

After a few moments, the detectives, and their head, I think, together with Mister Police Officer came.

"Are these all the things you wore and used last night?" The head asked.

"Yes," I answered.

"From now on, you should not wear these things. The culprit may identify you with these things. Also, if it is okay with you, you must change your style from your hair to your shoes."

"Uh- o-okay..."

"And lastly, you told us that the culprit heard your voice," He said which I nodded. "Because of that, you have to pretend mute. You should not speak or make any noise using your mouth if you are in public places or even anywhere but in your house. You can only speak if you are talking with us."

I looked at them doubtfully.

"I know this is hard, but we have to do this in order to protect you. This case has been ongoing since last March and until now, we don't have any lead but you. You are the only witness that we have so we need your help", the inspector pleads.

"Okay. I'll do my best," I said.

"Thank you, Ms. Supresencia."

"We will continue to investigate this case and the past cases as well. We will contact you if we have any progress and besides, you're under the protection of officer Dy so I know you'll keep updated. For now, practice being mute and stay safe," said one of the detectives.

"Wait, I still have one more question," Mister Police Officer said that made all of us look at him. "If you will meet the culprit again, would you still recognize him?"

"I am not sure, but I think I would."

"If that's so, I'll check all the data in the precinct and look for a prisoner or ex-convict that has a scar on the right temple. Maybe the culprit already had a criminal record. Or, I can also contact other police officers in other precincts to check their records," Mister Police Officer suggested.

I was amazed at how intelligent he is. He really is a smart policeman.

"That's a very great idea, Officer Dy. But you should be focusing on your test. Don't worry, I'll let Detectives Santelices and Ishigami help you," Inspector said.

I saw the two detectives' reactions. It looks like they are irritated with Mister Police Officer's idea or Anton himself.

"It's okay, Inspector, I can handle it," Mister Police Officer said.

"It's alright, Officer Dy. It is our job to help you..." said one of the detectives and faked a smile.

"Good!" Inspector commended. "Officer Dy, you may now go and take care with Ms. Supresencia. And you guys, you may now go back to your works."

"Yes, Inspector!" The boys saluted.
