Yuga observed as Chatot grew increasingly irritable due to being suppressed by Leavanny. He knew he needed to end this battle quickly; otherwise, victory would slip through his fingers.
"Chatot, use Hyper Voice," Yuga commanded.
As a Melodic Pokémon, Chatot possessed innate talent for sound-based moves. When it unleashed its Hyper Voice, the air around Yuga and Chatot began to vibrate intensely.
The shockwaves from the Hyper Voice surged toward Leavanny, but the agile Bug-type leaped to a nearby tree, avoiding the attack. It left behind a massive crater where the soundwaves had struck the ground.
Leavanny swiftly hopped between the tree branches, concealing its emerald body among the leaves. It utilized the refraction of light to seemingly vanish from both Yuga and Chatot's view.
"Leavanny, use Steel Wing," Tokiwa commanded.
Following Tokiwa's orders, Leavanny emerged from behind Chatot's position, its arms extending with blades gleaming like polished metal. With precision, it struck towards Chatot with its Steel Wing.
"Chatot, watch your back!" Yuga shouted, but it was too late. Leavanny's Steel Wing made contact with Chatot's back, sending the bird Pokémon crashing to the ground, creating a deep depression.
Leavanny's movements were both nimble and swift. After delivering its blow to Chatot, it gracefully landed on a nearby tree branch, blinking out of sight once more.
Yuga had already recognized the exceptional skills with which Leavanny wielded its arm blades. Whether it was cutting through normal-type moves, grass-type leaves, or steel-type attacks, Leavanny displayed remarkable finesse. This gap in experience was something Yuga couldn't replicate.
Chatot shook off the dirt that clung to its body and took to the air again. It concentrated on scanning the surrounding trees, attempting to locate the elusive Leavanny.
Chatot's Keen Eye ability, boosted its vision, making it particularly adept at sight. Yet, it struggled to find any trace of Leavanny.
"Because we Investigators frequently embark on missions in the field, our Pokémon often develop abilities that others may not possess. Leavanny's ability to hide is one of them," Tokiwa explained to Yuga.
Yuga responded with seriousness, saying, "You truly live up to being a member of the Investigator Bureau. You're quite formidable."
Despite being father and son, Tokiwa's son, Touya, had strikingly different personalities.
Touya had a fiery temperament, a lack of humility, andnor does he understand what qualities a trainer should have.
In contrast, Tokiwa was a true Trainer, modest, honest, and diligent.
His talent might not be exceptional, as evident from his age and Pokémon's strength in comparison, but he compensated for it with dedication, slowly bridging the gap with experience—a respectable opponent in Yuga's eyes.
Chatot could detect the subtle movements of Leavanny among the tree leaves, but it couldn't pinpoint Leavanny's exact path.
Seeing Chatot struggling, Yuga shouted, "Since we can't find it, let's stop searching. Chatot, use Hyper Voice to destroy all the leaves on the trees around us."
The large tree leaves were Leavanny's means of concealment. Eliminating them would expose its location.
Chatot responded by unleashing wave after wave of Hyper Voice, shattering the tree leaves into powder. With its cover gone, Leavanny was forced to reveal itself.
Chatot continued to fire Hyper Voice at a high frequency, while Leavanny desperately leaped between tree branches, evading the soundwaves.
However, Chatot itself was also under strain. Using Hyper Voice, an advanced Normal-type move, at such a high frequency was extremely exhausting for Chatot.
Tokiwa said, "Leavanny, Acceleeate with Silver Wind."
This command left Yuga puzzled. Wasn't Silver Wind an attacking move? How could it be used for acceleration? However, Leavanny quickly enlightened Yuga.
Surprisingly, the leaves on Leavanny's abdomen unfolded like wings, and then, under Leavanny's control, they wrapped around a silver cyclone. These cyclones were quite small and rapidly extended from Leavanny's abdomen to its legs.
In an instant, Leavanny's speed surged, and it quickly evaded Chatot's attacks, leaving Chatot's range of attack.
At that moment, Yuga realized that he had been too fixated on theoretical knowledge about Pokémon moves and hadn't realized the true versatility of these abilities. This Leavanny, in terms of both attacking power and speed, was outstanding, pushing the capabilities of a Leavanny Pokémon to the limit.
It was fortunate that Leavanny possessed the ability Swarm, which heightened Bug-type moves, rather than Chlorophyll. Otherwise, if it had taken the opportunity to come on a Sunny Day, Yuga believed Chatot might have been unable to even see its shadow.
Yuga commanded, "Chatot, catch up and use Sing."
Sing was a move with a low accuracy rate, generally ineffective without closing the distance between the Pokémon.
Upon hearing Yuga's command, Chatot dashed like an arrow, rapidly approaching Leavanny while singing a tune. However, Chatot's singing voice couldn't be classified as melodious; it sounded more like a chorus of ducks quacking. Yuga began to doubt if this kind of singing could truly induce sleep or if it was intended to keep them alert.
However, Yuga's concerns were unfounded.
As Chatot's song transformed into musical notes and drifted towards Leavanny, the Bug-type Pokémon's movements gradually slowed down. Even the silver cyclone wrapped around it dissipated.
Yuga knew that Sing had taken effect.
Tokiwa noticed Leavanny's decreasing focus, with its eyelids drooping. He hurriedly tried to snap Leavanny back to attention, but his voice had little impact. Leavanny continued to close its eyes, falling into a deep slumber.
"Chatot, seize the opportunity and use Hyper Voice."
Seeing that Leavanny had fallen into a deep sleep, Yuga promptly issued the command.
Under the influence of the Sleep status, Leavanny had no way to dodge. Despite Tokiwa's attempts to wake it, Leavanny remained asleep and was launched by Chatot's Hyper Voice.
However, Leavanny didn't fall into a deep slumber. It was only attacked once by Chatot before regaining consciousness. Feeling the intense pain, it instantly understood what had happened.
Just when the battle was about to continue, a sharp cry from a Braviary echoed overhead, catching both Yuga and Tokiwa's attention.
