Chapter – 47 Fighting Arena
"Sorry, I would like to register as a fighter," Max said
"Is this your first time?" the silver-haired girl asks Max, "Yeah, it's my first time." Max said, "Okay, please fill in your name, other details, and the highest-tier beast you have ever killed, and provide a crystal of the same tier." The silver-haired girl took out a blank paper and handed it to Max. Max started writing his name and other stuff. But he was considering whether he should write Rare or Advance tier as his highest tier beast hunted. He was confident to take out any Advance-tier beasts but he can't say the same for Rare-tier beasts. In the end, he decided to write Rare-tier on the paper and handed it over to the girl with the same tier Crystal.
"Thank you, for registering sir. Here's your token you can wait for it in the Fighters room and when you will be called out you would have to enter the fighting stage." the girl explained to him in a very sweet voice. Max headed to the place which the girl has told him after taking his token, it was a small piece of wood in a square shape with the number 228 engraved on it. "Maybe it's the number of people who are going to fight today or maybe something else, anyways I should only focus on the fights."
As Max was walking towards the waiting area, he was able to hear the people from the stands cheering for the fighters, it felt like his home world where people used to cheer just like this when they would be watching any sports games. Max was not able to see who was fighting in the arena but the cheers were too loud, "Maybe some famous persons are having a match to gain this much crowd attention." Max thought as he entered the waiting room which was filled with all different kinds of fighters.
There were around a hundred of people inside that room but it still wasn't crowded because they had made the room very big, even now if there would be another hundred men to come here it still won't be crowded. There were benches to sit on and there was also some equipment to exercise there. There was some Weight lifting equipment, there were also statues to target practice, and something similar to a punching bag but it was a wooden log that people were using to punch. Max was amazed by the things he was seeing; he had never thought that he will be seeing this kind of thing here. He was thinking the waiting is just going to be like an empty room with nothing inside.
"See another kid had come this time." One of the muscular guys who was lifting some heavy weights commented when he saw that a kid had entered the room. Putting down his weights the guy walked at Max. "Hey, kid it would be better if you leave this place otherwise, you're going to get all your bones broken by one of us." Saying that he smirked and others around him laugh at the comment. Last time just like Max, a guy had come around his age to the arena to earn some prizes but in the end, he was brutally beaten by his opponent, he didn't die but he can't fight anymore.
And everyone was getting a feeling that the same thing is going to happen to this new kid. It's not like they care about his safety on the hand they are going to enjoy it and even hope that they should be the ones fighting him to do that, it will result in them gaining fame and more good stuff. "Sorry, but I wanna gain some experience in fighting. I won't be leaving." Max said he didn't mind their taunts and comments. "Better for us if you won't leave." The muscular guy said that and get back to continue lifting the weights.
Ignoring everyone Max just sat on one of the benches there and started waiting till his turn came. After him, the other behind him from the queue also came and some of them seeing the equipment's started to give it a try. While others sat nervously on the benches, one of the guys who was sitting beside Max tried to talk to Max to light up his mood, "Are you here because of the prizes or to attract the girls by showing off your skills?" the guy said, Max looked at him, the guy had an average body and he was carrying a bow and arrow on his back, he was an archer. He had a thin face and black messed up hair. He looked around 22 years old.
"Compared to other guys here, he is quite young." Max thought, "I'm here to fight, I don't think I'm strong enough to get the prizes." Another guy heard Max saying, "At least this kid knows his limits, huh" the commented but continued what he was doing. Max ignored his comment as he knew he was not going to fight any of them, he was sure they were stronger than him, so the organizer of the tournament is not going to make them fight. If the fight would be over too soon, the public won't come again to watch it. So, it would be really odd if he got matched up against them.
"Are you one of those battle freaks guys, who don't have anything else other than fighting in their life?" The archer beside Max asked, "Nah, I'm not like that kind of person. I don't go around getting into fights, it's my first-time fighting others." Max said with a nervous smile. After Max started talking with the guy, he gets to know the guy's name was Neil, he was born and raised in this city, his parents were retired adventures and he was planning to become an adventurer now. But first, he wanted to test his skills here.
"Have you ever killed a Beast before Max?" Neil asked as all the time he was just talking about himself and his family, Max was just nodding the whole conversation or speaking when it was necessary. "Yeah, I had mostly fought with beasts and not a human before," Max said finding it a bit awkward. "Cool, what's the highest tier you have killed? I'm sure you would have at least killed an Advance-tier, right?" Neil was making it sound like that Advance-tier beast was a big deal and Max was finding it a bit odd. Because of his experience with the Advance beasts.
"Yeah, I always hunt alone and I have killed an Advance beast before and Rare-tier is the highest I have ever killed on my own," Max said, he was not loud but still everyone in the room heard him cause other than those two no one else was talking there, either they were sitting nervously or doing exercises. Everyone burst into laughter when they heard Max saying that he had killed Rare-tier beasts. Everyone present there was a part of a hunting group or a guild and they have always hunted in groups, even though they can't claim that they can kill a Rare-tier beast without adding that they needed their groups to help.
Now right in front of these guys, a kid in his teens was saying that he can kill a Rare-tier beast on his own, all of them found it hilarious. "Yeah, yeah. Kid if you can kill a Rare-tier beast on your own then I can kill a King-tier beast alone." One of the guys commented. "Tck, tck, tck. You guys are so weak, I can kill two King-tier at the same time just by myself." Other one said from those guys. And so, everyone started bluffing, saying how they can do this or that. For a moment they had even forgotten that they were making fun of Max.
"What's wrong with these guys? Anyway, it is not like I'll ever be meeting them again, it's just a one-time thing." Max thought as he didn't say anything to those guys for their comments. "Are you really telling the truth 'cause it's a bit hard to believe it, that you have done this on your own?" Neil said but judging by his expression he had some belief in what Max said, "Yeah, I don't have a reason to lie about this." Max confirmed it and surprisingly Neil believed it without questioning any further or asking for proof. If he had asked for proof Max didn't have any problem showing him a Rare-tier crystal to prove his words but nothing like that happened.
After some more time, a guy walked inside the room from the other side, he was well dressed like he was attending a party, and he pulled out some cards from his pocket and read it out loud. "Holder of Token no. 228 and token no. 199. Be ready you guys are next for the fight." Saying that he walked out of the room and back to where the fights were happening. Hearing his number Max stood up from his seat and the person Max was going to face was the guy who had made fun of Max from the start when he had entered this room.
"Kid, I'm gonna enjoy the fight today, I'll make sure to break every single bone in your body." He said while cracking both of his hands. On the other hand, Max wasn't even a bit fazed by his comments, on the contrary, he was excited that he can fight this guy first. "We will see who's going to end up with broken bones in the end." Max thought as he was ready to head out to the stage at any movement.
