Chapter 15

While sitting in CAD, Jason was chatting with Lala as they focused on her screen. In the background, Mr. Chase was grading a stack of tests he totally didn't postpone. As he let his speakers jam out as he glanced up at the two from time to time.

"It is strange being the only two in class." Lala commented.

"That can't be helped. The brawl suspended most of the class and the rest are absent today." Jason shrugged.

"Ah, Lala, here might be the problem. You forgot to account for clothing." Jason said, pointing to a couple lines.

Instead of working on the CAD program. They were currently looking over a few millions lines of code in an attempt to fix and debug Lala's Pyon-Pyon Warp-Kun or Wrap Jumpfor short. Now they were attempting to get the device to warp with their clothes.

"Did I? No look here, I added it here." Lala highlighted.

"Why is there an effect you put on after the warp? How is it supposed to warp the clothes if it is not there anymore?"

Lala raised a finger but instead of answering, she looked at the screen. After a few moments, she dropped her shoulder.

"A small coding error may have been made."

"Well, let's fix it and test it. Not like we have much going on anyways." Jason suggested as he waved around the empty room.

Lala raised her hand and nodded ready to work. The two quickly went to work as they began tinkering with the lines of codes. It was when the class time was coming to an end were they finally ready to test it.

Equipping the bracelet to her wrist, Lala pushed the button.

--

"Mr. Duke."

Standing in the center of the cafeteria with her hands on her hips. A woman taller horizontal than vertical stood there scowling. In front of her, Jason stood there holding what appeared to be women's clothing and undergarments.

"What do you think you're doing?"

"Standing here?" Jason answered unsure.

This was the result of the test run with the Wrap Jump and it warped him to the other end of the school with Lala's clothes in his hand. The only things missing were her socks and shoes. Using his super hearing, he found out that Lala was teleported home and appeared in front of where Liz was vacuuming.

From the few bangs and Liz tired grumbles. Jason assumed that Lala wasn't in much of a better position than he was. Well, that was untrue as he was in front of Karan and it was unfair to compare Liz with such a person.

"Where did you take these clothes from?" Karan glared as she looked at his hands.

"Would you believe me if I say they are mine?" Jason asked with a wry smile.

"My office now." Karan basically shouted as she pointed the way.

'Note to self, don't test Lala 's Warp Jump at school again.' Jason mentally grumbled to himself.

In the end, he ended up with two week detention. Something that made Karan grin in glee as he left shaking his head.

'Only a few months left.' Jason sighed as he will be rid of her once and for all.

--

Returning home after the day ended, Jason found Lala watching Man of Steel and it was just as Jor-El dove in to retrieve the Codex. After the Warp Jump, Lala decided to hang back at home leaving Jason to brave the school day by himself. So while he was bored in class she was watching movies.

"Perfect timing Jason. The movie just began." Lala smiled as she patted the couch seat next to her.

Tossing his school bag to the side. Jason took the seat while deciding to do his three minute of homework later. As the movie progressed, Lala continued to chat about random things. Such as how there was a suit in the ship that was under the ice for twenty thousand years that perfectly fit him.

For all her questions, Jason could only give his own answers. Most of which was tossed up to movie logic or Krypton magical can and do all technology.

"Do you have a Fortress of Solitude?" Lala asked as she saw and heard it being mentioned throughout the various movies and Smallville series.

"Not right now. Mother gave me a crystal to make one for my tenth birthday, but there hasn't been any real need for one." Jason shrugged.

"You're not curious how it would look with your own eyes?" Lala asked.

From the excitement in her eyes she clearly wanted to see it. The majestic and grand beautiful crystal fortress.

"I've been trying to get him to build it for years." James popped his head into the room. "I brought cookies by the way."

--

Later that night as the full moon slowly rose to the peak. Floating high above the Earth, Jason looked down at the small town of Whitefalls as clouds rolled below him. The various sounds of millions of vehicles, machinery, screams for help and joys of laughter filled his ears.

As he lets a silent tear drop from his cheeks as he listens to the sobbing cries for help. A gentle but firm hand grabbed his shoulder.

"Jason," James asked gently. It hurt him to watch his son torture himself as he listen to the world sorrows.

Turning around, Jason faced his father as he wiped away the tear that formed in the corner of his eye. "It hurts hearing everything."

"I know it hurts son, but this is the price we pay for our abilities. For all the good and joy we hear, we also hear all the pain and sorrows." James tried to comfort his son.

"Every second of every day. I hear basically everything." Jason said softly. "I used to tune out the world with my hobbies, but it isn't working anymore. Ever since Lala arrived I began to enjoy looking forward to what the next day will bring."

"Do you perhaps like her? More than a friend I mean."

"She is my only friend, dad. I only knew her for a little over a month," Jason refuted but continued on. "But Lala is special. Her smile can make even the monotone and mind numbing days better. The way she sometimes drives me crazy sneaking into my bed or jumping into my shower. There is also the way she reacts when she gets embarrassed and-.

"Son, you're rambling but I get the picture." James interrupted. "It sounds like you really like her."

"I do, Dad. She is basically my best friend." Jason replied. "It's just I am afraid she will just up and leave me someday."

"Son, what you have with Lala is special." Jason said as he looked up at the moon. "I will give you a piece of advice. Jason over your life, you will have friends that will come and go, but you will also have friends that will stay with you until the end. I believe unless you do something incredibly stupid, Lala will stay with you until her last days."

"Thanks dad." Jason said before realising something. "Did you just call me stupid?"

Smirking as he rapidly descended. James was glad to see his son smiling as he chased after him.

'The best relationships are also the ones that take time to build.' James thought.
