Chapter 10 Rejection

I tried to catch with him but he is walking so fast. He's really angry. He was trying to be polite with our parents earlier but I can see in his eyes the anger every time he look at me.

"Gin, stop. I need to talk to you!"

He stops walking and turns to me.

"Can you just leave me alone!" He shouts at me. He's furious.

We are in the parking lot of the restaurant. Good thing, no one is around.

"I thought you've changed. But it's all one big lie. You're still the same crazy old you! Is this your new scheme? Pretend that you don't remember me then surprise me that we are about to get engaged?" I can see the exasperation in his eyes. He's tired of the same old thing happening to him because of me.

"Gin, listen. I-"

"Don't you get it? I don't like you! I don't want you! You're disgusting!"

I don't understand but I felt it. Those words reach my heart. Every word. I just stare at him. I can't even say a single word to explain that this is all a misunderstanding. I'm frozen.

I caught a glimpse of regret in his eyes but what he said is all true and I needed to hear it.

He walks away. I was left there feeling empty and sad and.. hurt.

I went straight to my room when we reach home. My parents and Bettany tried to talk to me but I refused to face them. I want to be alone.

A teardrop started to fall and it started from there.

The next few days were dull. I refused to talk to anyone even to Bett. They all blindsided me and Gin blamed me for everything.

Bett entered my room looking pissed.

"Will you please stop? Mom and Dad do it for you. You wanted to get married to Gin. You convinced them and his parents to set you up. I disagree at first to still do it after you lost your memory but you don't know the rumors circulating you. People keep saying you're pregnant and gave birth. It's ruining your reputation. Our parents are just trying to save your face." She rant.

"I asked them to set us up?" I asked.

She nodded.

Cherry keeps calling me and asking me to go to her birthday party on Friday. I asked her if Gin will come and she said absolutely because they're cousins. They're cousins.

"Georg, I'll get mad with you if you won't come. You weren't around on my birthday last year. You must attend now!"

Maybe I'll just bring my gift and go home? Or just try to avoid him so that he won't see me? What should I do? He'll get mad if he sees me.

Simon drove me to the resort. It's a two-hour drive from home. We arrived there at 7:30. I immediately saw them having fun on the beach. Drinking and dancing. There's also a DJ and loud music. The colorful lights are dancing.

I saw Gin talking to a girl while drinking beer. It's the same one he was flirting with within the bar during Jeremy's birthday.

I search for Cherry in the crowd. I want to greet her and give her the gift so that I can leave immediately. I saw her with Jeremy and they were dancing. I approached them.

"Cherry."

"Georg!" She said enthusiastically.

She hugged me and kissed my cheeks. She's drunk.

"Happy birthday," I said.

"Thank you my best friend! Let's go over there!"

She drags me to the beach where there are picnic mats we sit.

"You're always late." She complained.

"I'm sorry. But here's your gift."

I gave her the box of the handmade necklace I made for her and she love it.

"Georg, I heard what happened to you with Gin," Cherry asked. "Georg, you're my best friend and I love you. I supported you with Gin before but honey, Gin-"

"Cherry, I know. It was just a misunderstanding."

"You do?" She asked confused.

I nodded.

"Well. The last time I asked you to stop chasing my cousin you got mad and stop talking to me for more than a year."

"Cherry, I did a bad thing to Gin and you telling me that it's wrong is a good thing. I want a friend to tell me when to stop cause that's what a real friend does."

"Georg.." She uttered.

She's teary-eyed. She hugged me.

"You grow up. You sound like a different person. I'm so proud of you." She said.

I let go and look at her face.

"That's why I need to go before Gin sees me here," I said to her.

"What? No! You know what, why don't you try to speak to him."

"I can't. He's mad at me."

"Don't worry. I'll handle it. Come with me to my room."

We went to her room then she left me there for a minute. She said she'll speak first to Gin.

I sit on the bed while waiting. I look around and notice a men's underwear on the bed.

The door creak and Gin entered. He was stunned when he saw me. So am I.

The door behind him slammed close. Cherry!

"Damn it!" I heard him curse when he saw what happened.

Cherry? What have you done?!

I immediately went to the door but it's locked from the outside.

"Cherry! Open this door!" I shouted.

I pound the door.

"I'll get back after 30 minutes. You talk first. I want you to be friends again. Please. It's my birthday."

"Cherry! Open this door now!" Gin ordered. He sounds so mad I can't look at him. His voice is stern and commanding.

"Bye!" She answered.

I heard her walk away. She's brave. I would have opened the if I were here.

This is not what I mean by talk. He'll get more mad at me.

I breathe deeply then slowly walk away from the door. Without looking at him I went to a chair on the opposite side of the room and sit there. There's nothing I can do but just stay away from him.

30 freaking minutes!

"What's this? Why are you doing this again?" Gin asked.

I look in his direction. He's looking straight at me. He's still mad but calm.

I have to explain. It's my only chance.

"I'm sorry. It's my fault." I said in a low voice.
