Chapter 6: Very Good Time

"Take your time, I'll be waiting right here." I said as I sat down on a bench nearby.

Evelyn looked at me with a smile and hurried into the owner's office with Jonathan in hand.

-IN THE OFFICE (3rd POV)-

As Dr. Terrence Bay (the owner of the library) was observing the piece of parchment with a magnifying glass, as Evelyn explained its significance.

"You see that cartouche there?" she says as she points to the parchment, "It's the official royal seal of Seti the First, I'm sure of it."

Dr. Bay has a look of confusion on his face as he studies the symbols on the parchment and says "Perhaps."

Jonathan chimes in and asks while closing in near Dr. Bay, "Two questions: Who the hell was Seti the First, and was he rich?"

Evelyn responds with "He was the second Pharaoh of the 19th dynasty, said to be the wealthiest Pharaoh of them all."

Jonathan smiles at his sister's response and says "Good! That's good, I like this fellow." He starts pacing around the room with a smile, "I like him very much!"

Evelyn shows Dr. Bay that she had already dated the map, "It's almost 3,000 years old." She points to a small image in the corner of the parchment, "And if you look at this hieratic just here…" She proceeds to give a stern statement, "well, it's Hamunaptra."

Dr. Bay gives a look of pure disbelief and looks at Evelyn, "Dear God, don't be ridiculous."

He then lays back in his chair and asserts "We're scholars, not treasure hunters. Hamunaptra's a myth told by ancient Arab storytellers to amuse Greek and Roman tourists."

Evelyn had a ready response, "I know all the blather about the city being protected by the curse of a mummy nonsense, but my research has led me to believe that the city itself may have actually existed."

Jonathan also butts into the conversation after some contemplation, "So are we talking about THE city of Hamunaptra?"

Evelyn then agrees "Yes. The City of the Dead. Where the earliest Pharaohs were said to have hidden the wealth of Egypt?"

Jonathan then paces around the room some more while stating, "Yes, yes, in a big, underground treasure chamber."

Dr. Bay then gives a slight chuckle to Jonathan's response.

Jonathan then looks at him and reaffirms his statement "Oh, come on. Everybody knows the story. The entire necropolis was rigged to sink into the sand on Pharaoh's command. A flick of the switch, and the whole place would disappear beneath the sand dunes, taking the treasure with it."

Dr. Bay raises the parchment without even realizing that it was directly on top of his desk candle. "As the Americans would say, it's all fairytales and hokum."

As soon as he said that, the parchment caught on fire. "Oh my goodness! Look at that!" He exclaims as he drops it on to the floor.

Both Evelyn and Jonathan rushed towards the parchment to put out the fire and quickly started to pat it down with both of their hands.

They did manage to extinguish the fire, Jonathan raises towards himself and unfurls it to his dismay.

"You've burnt it! You've burned off the part with the lost city!"

Dr. Bay then just folds his hands together and states "It's for the best, I'm sure. Many men have wasted their lives in the foolish pursuit of Hamunaptra." He then stares directly at them both and continues, "But no one's ever found it… Most have never returned."

-BACK TO DEIMOS' POV-

I started whistling a random tune that was stuck in my head. Don't really know the name but eh who cares, it's catchy.

As I kept whistling, I heard some footsteps. Most likely Evelyn and Jonathan.

They both walked through the door leading towards the room that I sat in and walked up to me.

"Deimos, it seems that we've got some bad news." said Jonathan in a somber tone.

I tried my best to have a worried look and asked "Why? What happened?"

Evelyn then responds to me, "It seems that through a clumsy mistake of our dear benefactor, Dr. Bay, the map was burnt."

I faked a shocked expression on my face which seemed pretty believable judging by how they both nodded with a frowned expression. "Is it badly damaged or…?"

Evelyn responds "No the entire map is fine, it's just the one crucial part of it that was burned…the location of Hamunaptra."

I responded with "Well, that's a real shame, isn't it?"

Jonathan agreed with me "It really is."

He then looks towards Evelyn and asks "Is there any other way of figuring out the location of Hamunaptra? Seti's wealth is calling for me!"

I cleared my throat so as to get their attention. It seems that It's time time to lead them to Rick.

"I did overhear a few people on the way here that they seem to have some PoW's they captured in some ruined city."

I saw a sudden realization appear on their faces as I continued, "Maybe one of them has been there?"

Jonathan was the first to respond, "Deimos, I hope you're right about this!"

He then looks at his sister and asks "Should we try and visit one of these poor souls?"

Evelyn had a pensive look but nodded her head. "It appears that this is our best chance at finding Hamunaptra."

Good, it looks like our next stop is the prison where Rick O'Connell is being held.

"Alright then. Do you guys want to go right now or?"

Jonathan immediately answered "The sooner the better, no?"

"Splendid." I flashed a smile since the story is finally moving along. I mean it's really cool how I'm beginning to be a major character in a movie that I really enjoyed watching when I was younger.

"What about you Evelyn? Want to go now?" I looked over to Evelyn who seemed to be in a daze as soon as I smiled.

Oh the pure bliss I feel of leaving a woman speechless because of my irresistibility. I'm never getting tired of that.

"Ahem!" with a louder clearing of my throat, it seemed to have knocked Evelyn from her daze.

Evelyn scrambled around a little bit but finally said, "Oh sorry Deimos, uhh, yes the sooner we get to this prisoner, the sooner we can get to Hamunaptra."

Well that settles that then, time to get over to the prison after Jonathan and Evelyn get prepared.

-TIMESKIP-

As me, Evelyn and Jonathan enter the prison after setting up an appointment with Warden Gad Hassan, who is a stout fellow that kind of reminded me of the kind man who sold me the headwraps, and led us through towards the cell that Rick was being held in.

Evelyn was the first to speak since we entered and asked Hassan why specifically was Rick being held for.

I mean I knew that he was a PoW for a tiny bit and escaped, only to be caught again after fighting drunk in a bar.

Hassan replied to her with "This I do not know, but when I heard you were coming, I asked him that myself."

He then turned around and shouted for Rick to appear in the small enclosed open jail cell in front of us. "Yallah! Bring him out!"

Evelyn then asked "And what did he say?"

Hassan then answered "He said he was just looking for a good time."

As soon as he said that the door to the cell on the other side opened and out revealed Rick.

Albeit he did look like a wild man with him being dragged out forcibly by two guards.

"This…this is the man?" Evelyn looked a little scared.

I mean I didn't blame her, bro looked like a fully clothed Tarzan with his hair.

The guards knocked his legs to make him kneel and only then did he notice us.

He looked and studied us closely for a bit. I did notice that he looked at me for a bit longer with a sort of challenging gaze, which I welcomed and responded with one of my own.

That seemed to make him look away. Heh, I win.

He then asked, "Who are you…and who's the broad?" he immediately questioned after looking closely at Evelyn.

Evelyn then looked confusedly at Jonathan and asked, "Broad?"

Jonathan, looking visibly intimidated and scared, quickly came up with one of his goofy responses, "Well, I'm just a local sort of missionary chap, spreading the good word…" He then really quickly formed a wonky version of the cross in front of him "...and all that, but this here is my sister, Evy."

Evelyn quickly introduced herself with a quaint "How do you do?"

Rick, having a blank emotion on his face, looked at Evelyn and said "Oh well. Guess she's not a total loss."

Evelyn, looking a bit offended, said "I beg your pardon?"

Some prisoners that were yelling behind us garnered the attention of Hassan who quickly made his way there after saying "I'll be back in a moment."

It was then that Rick looked at me, but with a questioning gaze, and asked "Who…are you?"

I gave him a small wave and answered, "Deimos, nice to meet you."

"Where you from, Deimos?" Rick asked with more confusion since he's probably the only one so far to question the roots of my name.

"I'm half Greek and half Turkish. I know, a pretty wild mix."

Rick then looked at me with a small grin, "A really wild mix."

Jonathan and Evelyn, noticing my conversation with Rick about my origins were left pretty shocked considering the hatred that both the people of Greece and Turkey had for each other.

I totally bs'ed my origins but eh who cares, no one will notice.

{Pretty nice answer Deimos, considering your name has Greek origins.}

I smirked and replied to Eve inwardly, who I haven't talked to for a few hours, 'I aim to please.'

Jonathan, being the first to snap out of his thoughts, questioned Evelyn, "Ask him about the…ya'know…"

Evelyn, quickly nodding her head and turned to Rick and asked "Umm, we found a box that explains the location of a city that we think you may have been to."

Rick then looks at her with a disappointed look and simply said, "No."

Evelyn, looking shocked, questioned "No?"

Rick answered, "No. You came to ask me about Hamunaptra."

Jonathan, being the worrywart he was, gestured for him to keep his voice low, and Evelyn questioned "How do you know the box pertains to Hamunaptra?"

Rick just said "Cuz, I was there when I was captured."

Jonathan, trying to clarify since it seemed that he didn't fully believe in Rick's answer.

"How do we know that's not a load of pig's wallow?" He questioned as he walked closer in front of Rick with only the metal bars of the cell between them.

Rick then had a look of realization and asked "Do I know you?"

Jonathan, finding out that Rick knew who he was, quickly denied it. "No, no, I just got one of those faces."

Rick, finally connecting the dots in his head, gave a firm punch to Jonathan's face.

"Urghh!" was all we heard when Jonathan fell to the ground.

Rick, looking angry, was quickly hit in the back by one of the guards.

I tried really hard not to laugh since Jonathan was just squirming on the floor holding his face as Evelyn just ignored and walked over him to ask Rick:

"You were actually at Hamunaptra?"

Rick, looking stunned and gave a shit eating grin, answered Evelyn, "Yeah, I was there."

Evelyn then said, "You swear?"

Rick then said "Every damn day."

Evelyn, realizing what he meant, said "No, I didn't mean that-"

Rick interrupted her, "Yeah, I know what you meant, I was there. Seti's place. City of the Dead." He replied with his hands trying to be spooky about it.

Evelyn, being excited, started stuttering, "C-c-could you tell me how to get there?"

Rick didn't respond but gave her a dejected look.

We then heard Hassan screaming in Arabic in the background.

Kinda funny with his high pitched voice.

Evelyn then took off the hat that she had worn and covered half her face to avoid other people from seeing what she was about to ask.

"I mean, the exact location?"

Rick then questioned her, "You wanna know?"

Evelyn looked confused, "Well, yes?" and leaned in closer to Rick behind the bars.

Rick then questioned again, "You really wanna know?"

Evelyn leaning even closer, "Yes?"

Rick then gestured to Evelyn to get even closer, as she thought that Rick was gonna whisper the location to her.

Oh yeah, Rick kisses her here. Though I did cringe when I first saw that scene, I think it built up their romance, but c'mon, there's better ways of going about it Rick.

Just as Evelyn was inches away from Rick's face, Rick then grabbed her chin and gave her a big kiss on the lips.

Or he would've, if not for me blocking their lips with my hand.

Sorry, Rick, but there's better opportunities for this.

Rick and Evelyn looking confused as they both kissed the back and front of hand, respectively. Confused on the part that I was standing a few feet away and somehow getting there within a split second.

-RICK'S POV-

What the hell? How fast is this dude? Here I was about to ask them to get me out of here after I kissed this Evy girl. But he totally just cock blocked me.

-DEIMOS' POV-

Thank you AGI stat.

I looked at my stats which I asked Eve to display for me after the whole me preventing Rick from forcibly kissing Evelyn.

Damn, I forgot to read some books to raise my INT. Oh well, I could do that later? I think?

Looking back at Rick, who still seemed to be in shock with how fast I stopped his little fiasco, I asked him:

"Seriously, dude, be better."

Rick then looked at me and said, "Then get me the hell out of here!"

As soon as he said that he started to beat up the guards behind him while his hands were bound together.

As he was also being beaten up, more guards came in to try and drag him away, he looked at both Evelyn and me and said, "Do it!"

As shocked as Evelyn was, she still thanked me for preventing that from happening.

"Thank you Deimos. Although, have you any idea where they are taking him?"

Hassan appeared behind us and answered for me, "To be hanged! Apparently, he had a very good time?"
