The fifth day off brought a sense of ease and lightness to the S.H.I.E.L.D. shuttle. The team was relaxing and enjoying their free time, but for May and Ward, the day promised to be a bit more active. Both were looking forward to a friendly challenge that would help keep their skills sharp and also strengthen their team spirit.
The idea of a sparring match came up during a casual conversation between May and Ward. As they talked about past missions and the skills they each possessed, they both agreed that a friendly sparring match would be an excellent way to test their skills and stay in shape.
"So, do you think you can beat me in a sparring match?" May asked with a challenging smile.
"I'm always up for a challenge," Ward replied with a smile just as big. "Let's see what you've got."
The two decided to meet in the shuttle's cargo hold, a space large enough for combat practice. They prepared themselves, changing from their street clothes into proper training gear and adjusting their pads.
When May and Ward met in the cargo hold, the atmosphere was charged with anticipation and energy. Both were determined to give each other the best challenge possible, but they were also aware that the fight would be friendly and respectful.
"Let's start with a light warm-up," May suggested. "We don't want to get hurt right away."
Ward agreed, and they both began with some warm-up exercises, stretching and doing light movements to get their muscles ready.
"Ready to start?" May asked, her eyes shining with a mix of competitiveness and amusement.
"Ready," Ward replied, assuming a fighting stance. "Let's do this."
May and Ward got into position and began sparring with controlled, precise movements. Both were mindful of rhythm and control, avoiding any movements that could cause injury.
Ward made the first move, lunging forward with a series of quick punches that May blocked with ease. She retaliated with a series of kicks and knees, trying to test Ward's defense.
— "You're still fast, Ward," May commented as she dodged Ward's moves. "But I'll catch you."
Ward smiled and responded with a skillful counterattack, trying to find an opening in May's defense. They continued to trade blows and defenses, both demonstrating impressive skills and excellent control of the fight.
— "You're getting better every day," Ward said, panting. "But it's still not enough to take me down."
As the sparring progressed, May and Ward began to use more advanced techniques. May made a quick move, applying an armbar that Ward managed to escape with a skillful spin. They continued to challenge each other with a series of fighting techniques, testing each other's endurance and skill.
— "Well done, May," Ward praised as he recovered from a move by May. "You definitely know what you're doing."
— "And so do you, Ward," May replied with a smile. "But I still have a few surprises in store."
The fight continued with a series of faster and more precise moves. Both were determined to show off their skills, but always in a respectful and sporting manner. Despite the competitive nature of the sparring, May and Ward also showed moments of cooperation and mutual learning. They exchanged tips and techniques, helping each other improve their skills.
— "Try using more of your hip strength for that move," May suggested as she adjusted Ward's stance.
— "Good tip," Ward replied, applying the technique more effectively. "You really know how to improve control."
May smiled and continued to give guidance and feedback. Ward did the same, offering helpful advice and adjustments to May's techniques. After a while of intense combat, both began to slow down, their movements becoming smoother and more controlled. The sparring had been exhausting, but also very rewarding. They were both tired, but pleased with each other's performance.
— "You did excellent, May," Ward said, extending his hand for a friendly handshake. "That was a real challenge."
— "You too, Ward," May replied, shaking his hand firmly. "That was a great sparring session. It's always good to test your skills."
They shook hands and began to recover, drinking water and doing light stretches to loosen up their muscles. As they recovered, May and Ward talked about the sparring session and their impressions of each other's performance.
— "I really enjoyed our sparring session," May said. "It was great exercise and a great way to test our skills."
— "I agree," Ward replied. "It was fun and challenging. It's always good to have the chance to fight someone so skilled."
— "And it's also a good opportunity for us to learn from each other," May added. "Always there is something new to discover."
