Summer break is unfortunately over! A nd I'm not the slightest bit eager to get to school. Coming from me, that should mean a lot. I am, after all the biggest nerd at school. School is my life...or it was before Casey came along.
But this is what my life has resulted to, arriving late to school just so I can avoid Casey or any of his demonic sadistic friends. Especially after what happened at the restaurant a little over a week ago, I'm sure he has been looking forward to beating me up.
The hallways were empty, not a single soul in sight. I actually managed to escape them...for now at least.
I know it's a bad show to be late on your first day of school after a break. It's not my intention ,but I have to do it...for my own good. Cause I honestly don't think I can deal with Casey right now. I'm just not in the mood. Not that I ever am, I just really feel exhausted of him, and life, my mom, school, the teachers...just everything! I need a break right now. The last thing I need, is Casey around.
I know I can't avoid him forever, cause we share almost all the classes. But I'm going to try my very best to avoid him...while I still can anyway.
I headed to my locker to grab the books for my first class. After taking them, I stashed them in the bag in a very disorganized manner, not having time to arrange them in order. I shut my locker after grabbing the books, making my way to first period.
"Miss Vance?" a voice said from behind me. The voice was very familiar, and I'd recognize it anywhere...the principal. I tried to make up an excuse as to why I'm this late for class, but my mind couldn't register anything.
"Come with me to my office," he ordered and began walking in the direction of his office, clearly leaving no room for a discussion.
"Sir, I can exp___"
"NOW!" he cut me off. And without another word, I followed him to his office. To be honest, I really don't think I would have been able to come up with an excuse. So it's kind of a good thing he did not let me talk.
Opening the door and ushering me into his office, I realized I wasn't the only person in the room. Sitting opposite the principal's chair was none other other than...Connie?
"Sarah!" she got up and hugged me, "I'm glad to see you,"
"W...Wh...What are you doing here?" I stammered.
"I just got transferred here," she said still smiling," I study here now! Isn't that exciting?"
"Y...Yeah. I definitely wasn't expecting it,"
"I wanted to surprise you. I meant to tell you and Casey the good news during our lunch, but I thought it would be better to just surprise you,"
"So Casey doesn't know you're here?
"Nope! Not yet at least,"
"It looks like you two are already familiar with each other," the principal stated, "So I guess you wouldn't mind showing her around,"
"Sure,"
"We can do that later after class, right," Connie said to the principal, and he nodded in agreement.
To be honest, I didn't want to give her the tour of the school, not now or even later.
If you ask me, I think it's all too suspicious that anyone in their right mind would want to leave a high and prestigious school like Crown Academy, for a simple common public school like Berry High. It just doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe she came to this school to help Casey torture me more. The last thing I need is one more person joining the 'bully Sarah club'.
"And make sure nothing bad happens to her. Take care of her with your life," the principal said as I opened the door and led Connie outside.
"So which class do you have now? " she asked as we walked away from the principal's office and towards the hallways.
"English,"
"Really? We have the same class right now!" she said in excitement, and I stayed quiet, not knowing what to say. I would be lying if I said that sharing the same class with Casey is exciting. In fact, come to think of it, sharing any class with any of my classmates is unbearable. I'd prefer to just teach myself, or homeschool. anything to not have these annoying classmates.
"And do you know which class Casey has right now?" she asked as we took the next corner towards class.
"I have no idea," I lied.
It's obviously a lie. In order to be able to ignore and avoid Casey, I had to know which class he has and when he has it. I had to memorize his entire timetable. But of course I'm not telling her that. As far as I'm concerned, this could all be a trap, and I'm not falling for it.
"Well that's too bad! I guess I'll just have to surprise him later," she simply said.
We stood in front of the classroom door. And I could feel my heart beating rapidly. On the other hand, Connie, who today was her first day of school, was perfectly calm. She didn't even seem the slightest bit nervous. Why would she be anyway? Her dad basically owns the school, and her cousin runs it.
"Sarah? "she whispered, snapping me out of my thoughts, "Are you okay? You kind of zoned out for a second,"
"I...I'm fine. Just a bit nervous I guess,"
"And I thought I was the new one around," she chuckled.
"I... Do you think you can go in before me?"
She spared me a quick glance, but didn't think twice before knocking twice and entering. I followed her behind, keeping my eyes glued to the floor.
One thing that I guess is a common trait in the Larson family, [Connie and Casey's family], is that they all posses an enormous amount of confidence. I mean how can they not? Casey's father is a member of parliament, rumors are that he might end up being the Ambassador by the end of the year. His mother is news reporter. While Connie's dad is the mayor, a really successful, well known politician, and her mom is a lawyer. they all need confidence...they all have the confidence.
Casey on the other hand, is a footballer, and he happens to he very charismatic. The same for Connie, who was a cheerleader at her former school...the cheer captain at that. So you can pretty much imagine the amount of confidence she has. It's a wonder she looks so at home here when it's only the first day of school.
"Hello dear," Miss Faith, the English teacher greeted Connie, her voice clearly laced with excitement, "Welcome to Berry High. We are more than honored to have you here,"
"Thank you! I'm happy to be here,"
"Class, "she faced the class, "we have a new student. This is Connie La___"
"McCarthy...Connie McCarthy is fine," Connie interrupted. My guess is she wants nobody to know that she's related to Casey yet.
Connie may be the mayor's daughter, but she leads a really simple life. Everyone knows the mayor has a daughter, but most people have never really seen her. Connie makes sure to do her best to keep any of her pictures from social media, and her father totally agreed with her.
Considering that politicians tend to make a lot of enemies, the mayor decided it was best to keep his daughter's identity a secret. But Connie says she does it to avoid the spotlight.
But we all know it's only a matter of time before the whole school is buzzing with the news. The minute Connie 'surprise' Casey, the whole school will find out. And I think you can Imagine the number of likes one would get for posting the very first picture of the mayor's daughter. My guess is...probably a lot.
